I believe more in the *relaxing* of rules and guidelines, and allowing people to be responsible for their _own_ actions and words.

Short answer, that won't work. Because members ARE responsible and must be responsible to each other. The whole point is teamwork and democracy. One man, one vote. Not everybody trying to screw the business.

In the model we are trying to implement, the users set the policy, not the stockholders. If users want links to their home pages, it will be allowed. If not, then not. (As long as the rules are in accordance with cooperative principles.) Your anger at eBay may be well-placed, but it doesn't apply here.

Really, this is SO different from eBay. eBay is set up to take the money from listing fees. eBay makes a profit whether the item sells or not. If someone deadbeats on your auction, or eBay crashes just before your listings close, you're SOL. You pay anyway. eBay doesn't care about your success at all. Look how they lie about their numbers. eBay is designed solely to milk money from sellers.

A co-op would not work that way. A co-op would provide services at cost. If listing fees were charged, at the end of the year, the surplus monies would be returned to sellers in proportion to their listings. No one would make any money off of sellers! The co-op's only interest - that is, the membership body as a whole - is in maintaining the viability of the trading site.

And if you think about it, you'll see that requires a higher code of ethics than selling on eBay. eBay knows its users cheat. eBay makes it up (and more) by increasing fees. A co-op can't do that because it must deal honestly with members. There's no screw me/screw you factor. (Obviously that will take some getting used to! LOL)

Hi, well since you are allowing links now(important to me & my friends) I will try your site..I always post a link back from my site..just good manners..
I feel it's how you look at it,,i appreciate it,,my site has links to my other auctions, buy direct, shops etc..but If I am selling on your site & i put a link to my auctions there on my website,(thus in search engines),email signature to all my customers & past buyers from other sites..
Can you agree it could be an equalizing factor from someone like me that is not just a TAKER OR A USER?I feel it's Just good biz...
Also good free super "targeted" advertising for your site?
I look at it as a reciprocal thing, not using you to take away bidders,as a way to bring you more bidders (&me),but i need to get them from cyberspace,my other auctions,etc..& i need your help by allowing my links using my website to bounce everyone around LOL..
I really REALLY like the banner swap idea & would do it in a heartbeat!..
Anyway,,i appreciate being able to link & yes i will list some nice items.thanks for all your work on this.
One problem,i just tried to register,my email accounts are Yahoo & Hotmail..it refused both..so how can i register?
thanks & I wish you a lot of luck...
Maybe we will all have a super holiday season this year..Great timing on your part..

Just for the record, I wasn't at *all* thinking of eBay when I was commenting on rules, freedoms and self-responsibility.

I was thinking of ePier, with next to no rules, and much trust from the ePier brass.
And the incredibly loyal user base that respects that trust.
