AC a must read? I don't think so.
It's a bizarre that the place has as its motto "Reap What You Sow" and yet encourages its posters to post annonymously to ensure that they DON'T reap what they sow.
Sneaky has never explained that hypocricy.

"Thanks for the info. I'm just trying to figure out who everyone's talking about at AC (a MUST read if you have time)!"

That kind of remark is why I have a problem with you. It's inconsiderate and you know it. You just don't care.

I see what you're saying stockticker. An unmoderated board like that can bring out some pretty mean-spirited people, but it can also give a bit of insight into what people are really thinking on a topic, whether it's good or bad. I just see it as a board with a different format with different ideas and opinions, and try to ignore the back-stabbing.

I thought the original gossipboard concept as Ross introduced it, with a mock serious tone and a sort of Walter Winchell/ Hedda Hopper camp, was clever and creative. To have maintained and further developed it would have required an inordinate amount of both time and self-restraint however, and without much potential for a financial return.

You would fit right in with the rest of the annonymous back stabbers. Why don't you join them?

Helen, I was being sarcastic by saying it's a "MUST read". I tend to be a sarcastic person.

You started this thread to direct everyone to Ross's board so that they wouldn't miss seeing me attacked by Hepburn and Zilvy. Now, you are directing them to AC to fininsh the battle. I would have more decency than that if you or any other member of this board were in the same predicament.
I have tried to defend myself there, but since they have no identity and can say anything, no matter how ludicrous, it's a losing battle.

Because I'm not a back-stabber Helen.

No it doesn't. It's an illusion. Lots of lies there - I know because I have a good memory for old events here on AW and elsewhere.
Besides, I can't respect anyone who posts anonymously for the sole reason to bash, hurt and lie and is too much of a coward to accept the consequences of doing so. They have the illusion that by keeping their reputation intact elsewhere that they aren't really the person their AC posts themselves to me. They're lie to themselves. They also are deluded if they don't think their posting styles aren't recognized.
(My comments refer to the anonymous forum there only and also only to the anonymous coward bullies who do bash, try to hurt and lie. Some people can post anonymously and still maintain the same personality they reveal elsewhere. Some post simply for the fun of innocent role playing - I'm not referring to them either.)

Helen, what are you talking about? I have heard the name Ross mentioned alot at AC. I wanted to find out who they were talking about, so I asked here. (Also, you have been mentioning these boards in your recent posts.) Not everyone knows what they're talking about on other boards, and most people here have been on these boards alot longer than me, so that's why I asked.
And please stop attacking me for everything I say Helen.

If you've heard the name Ross mentioned at AC, then you must have seen the links to Ross' board at AC. It would be much easier to follow the links to Ross' board from Ac to find out who Ross is, rather than create a thread here to ask.
But then that would assume that what you wanted was to know who Ross is, rather than wanting to play a silly game here.

I don't know what you're reading, but obviously, I should have never asked who Ross was. Now I'm a back-stabber who's playing games. Whatever.
Thanks enchanted, for telling me.

You're welcome Kraftdinner.
FWIW I took it as a literal request for information and not as a direction to go anywhere or do anything like read a certain thread. So I tried to supply some info. I didn't take it as anything with an ulterior motive.
Also FWIW I cringed when I finally read that particular thread(s) at Ross's yesterday. It reminded me of the old days in the EO a few years ago. Irene you probably remember that scene. Sometimes things just go too far, but that is my personal opinion and as such, often ignored by most everyone, perhaps rightfully so
IMHO some threads are best avoided. I really don't like to read certain threads and end up using my personal ignore button. Sometimes it's quite nice to not read every board, or every thread at every board. Quite blissful in fact.
Off to the Christmas party....

The AuctionCrotch format was unique in that each post had an anonymous ID. So no one could tell who was who from one post to the next. Unlike other boards where posters quickly gain a reputation (even under a bogus ID), there was no one to argue with, because no one knew who said what.
So in that way arguments between posters were minimized. The whole idea was to lampoon auction sites and other chat sites. I think it worked pretty well. But then a few folks got out of hand, posting nudie pics and there was maybe some libel, and the site owner was threatened. That was pretty much the end of it. But I think it succeeded well on a small scale. The irony was that you could be chatting pleasantly with your most bitter enemy and never know it.
Re: Ross, I'm surprised there are people who don't know of him. Many mention his redeeming features, but I just don't see it. Since he can't post here, I won't say more.

This is just too funny! A two page thread at AW about Ross and AC. Who ever thought?
