I'm beginning to think that you're psychic, KD. Yes, oxymoron is exactly it, as in the phrase New Year's resolution. Resolution is also a term for the end of the conflict or problem in a plotted story, which is once again in demand, and an allegorical approach would require it. The chief question that remains is whether to attempt to extend the oxymoron as incident to paradox.

But this is all a rather dull way to celebrate the New Year.

Happy New Year!!!!

Oh come now Antiquary....if you extended the oxymoron in relation to ANY paradox, the need for what drew you to the oxymoron in the first place would be non-existant, leading to the paradox you're trying to avoid.......geez!

Joni Mitchell said it all rather well.

And the seasons, they go round and round

And the painted ponies go up and down

We're captive on the carousel of time

We can't return, we can only look

Behind from where we came

And go round and round and round

In the circle game
