>>>{grayowl}i have all my auctions in yahoo linked to auxpal via banner no closed auctions yet<<<

You might want to reconsider (or maybe not) posting the links in your Yahoo auctions. Circumstances change. Sometimes when a situation isn't working its better just to walk away instead of burning bridges. When Yahoo jumbled their listings I believe there was little or no response from Yahoo because dealers continued to list. Sellers are actually walking away because of the new fees. If Yahoos plan falls short of their expectations I believe it's very likely they will adjust their fees and/or add free relisting, etc. To me, the real beauty of sellers just quitting and building up a site like AuxPal, is that it sends a real message to Yahoo. Not just idle complaints.

Just checked out AuxPal and I really hope you folks listing there do not do this for a living!!!! I am personally in this business to supplement my income and was a dedicated Yahooer! for quite sometime until switching to eBay. I really do not mind the fees at all considering some of my stuff that had sat on Yahoo for over a year moved on eBay with multiple bids the first week I listed them.

Ebay has given the average person a chance to go into businees for him or herself without requiring even a fraction of the capital it takes to start a bricks and mortar business in this country and be successful. I am not knocking anyone who trys their luck at one of these alternate sites, its just not for me. I have gone eBay and do not ever plan on parking my stuff anywhere just to sit forever without hardly any pageviews let alone a bid. I kid you not I had items on Yahoo that got 30-40 pageviews over the course of 14 months and sold with multiple bids on eBay the first week with over 200+ hits!

Anyway good luck to all of you........

sincerely

These free sites may be a decent alternative for sellers, but what do they offer buyers? If they offer something different, maybe they'll stick around long enough for the quantity of listings to grow. Auxpal had a thing going with the Paypal auto payments, but the trust of passing their passwords over just isn't there.

Here's what I expect the next successful site to implement. Monthly fee's of $25 for sellers, no limit of listings or relistings, no FVF. Sound good? Any millionaires listening?

Like mandalore, I have moved nearly all my items from Yahoo to eBay. Because of the numbers of items involved, this has to be done in three phases. The first batch moved over resulted in bids on 50%. The second batch is now running. The last batch to go over tomorrow.

However, I'm also running limited selections on various other auction sites just to put out feelers.

mandalore You have hit the nail on the head. There are some of us out here that sell stuff for kicks and giggles. We aren't in it to suppliment any income or create a monthly income on which to live. We are collectors who sell our extras and buy someone else's; we are housewives selling off the fall/spring cleaning; we are crafters looking for a year round craft sale. Alot of these people also sell on eBay - I do also. But I want a place to list my crafts that have to wait for the right buyer. And I know that's the same for stamps (collect them), coins (collect them), sports cards (collect them). And you can't afford to have that stuff sit on eBay. Which created the big turmoil when Yahoo decided to charge. If you are going to pay eBay is the place to be. If you need to have stuff sit Yahoo was the place. And many, many sellers used them side by side. So now to find the place Yahoo used to be. I have no dreams of getting rich in the auction business - however, enough money for another skein of yarn would be nice!

How easily they all forget that it was the first million "junk" listings that made them what they are.

I think Ebay's gonna miss all the "junk" listings when all the low$$ sellers throw in the towel and say "enough". Variety is the spice of life, and Ebay will be awfully boring if all you can find is $50 & up hoity toity antiques and collectibles. As a shopper, I want to be able to find $2 magazines and $5 Barbies cause those are what make me happy. I could care less about Meissen & Stickley & Hummels and whatever else Ebay might consider to be non-junk. And I KNOW I'm not the only one!

For those interested, I contacted AuxPal about increasing the number of pictures you can use per auction listed and they are "working with an image hosting co. to provide more advanced pic services". An image gallery is on the way. A watchlist is on the way (if not already implemented last night). Time slots are on the way....

AuxPal is on the way!

Well, after reading about AuXpals growing number of listings, and the great customer service, I thought I'd take a look at some catagories I sell in on AuXpal. I have LOADS of pottery and dinnerware, and thought surely I would see full catagories and bids and (maybe) even multiple bids.

I have found MOUNTAINS of discussion of AuXpal on this and other sites [thread titles include; AuxPal Momentum, AuxPal - The New Yahoo, AuxPal listens ? Why Won't Yahoo..., AUXPAL( FREE FOREVER??), No Hotmail on Auxpal, ...you get the idea].

Yet, despite all the discussion and talk of "momentum" - in the catagories I am interested in, I saw nothing - zip, nada, zilch.

I was dissapointed. I have items in these catagories listed on Epier, WITH BIDS! Nonetheless, I find Epier gets only the odd mention now and then on this and other boards.

Not being one to dismiss any auction site off hand, I will revisit AuXpal many times again to see if its looking better in the areas I sell in.

Meanwhile I'll list some more of my dinnerware items on epier.

Me thinks that there are a few Auxpal shills in the wainscotting.....

I listed a some very hot videos on Auxpal. No bids, very few hits. Not impressive. I read a thread about the counters not working but if the counters aren't working then perhaps other things are not working either??

I'm sure a new site will develope as ePAy is making far too much loot for some other greedy suit to not want some of the pie!

canvid ...

I buy in the videos category exclusively. I check the auction sites daily for stuff I want to add to my collection. I have yet to see any 'hot' videos on AuxPal, but I have seen pages and pages of bootleg wrestling and concert videos, kids movies, and Asian things.

Are you sure you listed on AuxPal

Addenda ... just had a look at your stuff. With all due respect, the reason you are not getting bids may have something to do with your starting bids

For example, LOTR is coming to DVD within the next couple of months and will sell for about 1/4 of what you want for your tapes. And your "OOP" PAL movie is available from a few sources in the UK for 1/10 of your Take It Price. (It is also available in North America in NTSC - the extra cost of around $20.00 to convert your PAL tape is not even requied!).

These may be "collector's items", but I don't think the people who visit AuxPal are the type of people who will pay this much for a movie. I have found that the majority of movie buyers just want the movie to watch it, and if they can get a 2nd or 3rd release at WalMart for 10 bucks, that's what they will do.

Anyway, good luck with your sales

rustybore - Maybe I'm missing something here... 'splain it to me.

If you (or others) are going to AuxPal (or any of the new sites for that matter) to see how much is listed in the categories you sell in and you see nothing listed - why don't you list some things in those categories?

It would seem you can't generate an overall interest (to the site) much less a specific interest (in your chosen category) if all you do is look but don't list.

So what am I missing here?

molly001, I understand your point, and its a good one. I just don't feel obligated to personally stock the shelves at Auxpal.

If I do decide to do any stocking, it only makes sence for me to do so at site where I have successfully sold on in the past, and where I currently have bids.

I will continue to read these many threads about Auxpal, I will continue to monitor the site, and I'm sure that someday I'll list there, but in the meantime - I'll continue with epier, where I already have feedback, and bids.

tyops? where?

The sales you all are talking about on AuXPal sound great - you must be selling something I'm not as I can't seem to move a thing over there. I'm getting sales on some of these new/smaller sites, but at the moment they are spread all over the place, which I hate, as it is hard to keep up with. But, I'm not running that many auctions, only moved about 15, to test about 5 sites. I have left the bulk of my auctions sitting closed on Yahoo. I hoped to get a feel for a possible site before I started moving hundreds of auctions to any one site.

I'll keep a closer eye on AuXpal - normally, we are selling like crazy this time of year, but even on eBay things aren’t moving like they have in the last 4 or 5 years at this time of year.

Thanks, rusty, I "do" understand afterall. You are doing pretty well on ePier and that is good.

I will continue to be one of those who lists on AuxPal and tries to build up the site. So far, for me anyway, I see so much potential there and it started with the exemplary customer support. I don't care what I've asked, they've either implemented it or are in the process of. It says a great deal to me for the future success of the site.

Like everyone, I'm tired of moving around but I kind of started out that way. I remember I growled a whole lot when I finally learned eBad, then YaWho?, then.... Getting out of our comfort zones is always such a challenge ~ one where time is not initially on our side.

Thanks for the input!

"Me thinks that there are a few Auxpal shills in the wainscotting....."

Auxpal/Bidville is the only auction site with a guarantee of no listing fees, no FVF fees, no membership fees, for sellers who regisger before 3-10-01. AuxPal is the only site with a referral program which has made them the fastest growing free site on the web. This is not hype or shilling. These are facts.

What happens on 3-11-01?

"These are facts"

Here's another on-line "fact": I am 9 feet tall ...

Anyone want to call me a liar

Seriously, aren't these "facts" very similar to the "facts" that Yahoooooo started with?

Damn, got me

But, I AM 9 feet tall in the morning (I tend to shrink a bit during the day, and by the time you see me in the bar, I'm down a couple of inches ... at least that's my story, and I'll stick to it)

Interesting comments about Auzpal and others. MHO is that the reason ebay did so well -is that they literally WERE the only game in town and virtually all sellers began there.

The "wannabe ebay auction sites" made many mistakes. First- they should have been willing to take 2nd place - instead of luring us with services we just couldn't refuse...freebies approach. I believe this was their downfall. When payback time came - they had not delivered the 1) traffic 2) customer support 3) advertising with a big A
4) they refused to listen to the marketplace (seller)

Ebay did NOT even have to do any of the above , simply due to being the only game in town. All the others were copycat sites.

Strangely, the writing was on the wall- they should NOT have copycatted- but offered "free listings with annual or monthly membership fees" As a member of an organization, it would have been easier to control sleazy dealers-NPB and the like.

Until something like that occurs, our choices now, are, low fees, no fees, low support, no support, zero advertising, 3,4 auction site listings, etc etc

At present- after exhaustive research, I've chosen epier as the lesser of all lessers... It's a crap shoot - but - one thing is for sure, if the majority of sellers do not congregate on ONE elected site-- auctions will remain "fractured" at best. Bidders do NOT wish to be hopscotching the net - keeping track of multiple auction sites. That takes the fun out of it--
It would be interesting to know what % of these boards are on which auction site......for now, for me, it's ebay and epier. More than that, and even I will be confused and bored.

whyizzit; I didn't find a lot of difference between AuxPal or ePier. Doesn't matter to me which site emerges as the clear favorite. I went with AuxPal because it seems like they are the fastest growing site and have the most momentum with their referal program and free listing guarantee.

Thank You,

You explained it all, always be prepared to move your stock instead of complaining, the complaining alone can put you behind in your work.

I am glad you found a niche in ebay, Ebay is Top Dog!!! You sold elsewhere and express gratitude not so much from the auction house, the buyers. I am sure many wonderful people who we have sold to with ease are watching, your diplomacy is to be honored.

It's nice to know You are in ebay and do not predgidous me for going to x0x0xoxopqrsoxoxoxo.com.blah blah blah blah.

Yahoo doesn't care if I go to a different site, nor do they care if anyone else does, it is not being held against anyone. Screaming foul just gives you a sore throat.

Thanks Ya'all
