Does that mean you want the entire country run by one party? Our government is supposed to represent all the people not just the right wingers. Apparently you do not believe in democracy.
Mores the pity.

LOL, Rawbunzel. Let's have those sins confessed out loud, too. 'Twould be informative at least.

Hmmm - so just *some* kinds of prayers are to be out loud? And, again, what about Jesus telling people not to be as the Pharisees on the street corners but to go to one's closet to pray?

Oh well, we are all polarized here, aren't we? No more convincing to be done, I think.

You are correct. It was a special time and the other graduates should not be subjected to a fire and brimstone sermon aka hazing.

Views such as yours are the reason I support the ACLU so strongly both philosophically and financially.

raw - we usually don't agree on political issues...but I have always enjoyed your sense of humor. We need more humor here as we discuss these 'hot' topics.

and he told me to let you know that he would prefer that when you confessed your sins to him that you do it loudly and in public

LOL I already did...I admitted I ramble.

I don't mean to derail...
LindaK, I've been wondering how your husband is doing. I haven't been here in ages, so I might have missed if you already shared that information. I hope his treatment was successful.

yes, dave and why I am so against the ACLU is stated here by Bill O'Reilly

First, an explanation. We're doing this investigation because we believe the ACLU is hurting America by constantly suing to further an extremist agenda. The ACLU is currently defending child molesters, attacking school boards for using the word "Christmas," and demanding that high schools fund clubs for homosexual students.

It's good you have O'Reilly to tell you how to think.

I support the ACLU although I have disagreed with them on occasion as to cases they have taken on. Specifically defending the rights of the United Klans of America a Christian organization and the American Nazi Party.

No dave, O'Reilly doesn't tell me how to think. Just like you, I'm sure, we all gravitate to those whos views we share. I share a lot of his. That's all.

As usual, the issue is misstated as taking away the rights of christians.

The actual issue in all of these ACLU cases is government sponsored religious activities. Which is clearly unconstitutional.

I also find it un-American and ironoic that after Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell got their man Bush to allow christian organizations to be paid government contractors for social services, these "christians" withdrew their support for the program when it was announced that muslims and all other religions could participate too.

This country was not founded on "christian" principles either. If you ever bother to read the bible, you'll find that Jesus was a communist and did not even come close to supporting private property rights that our founders did. Jesus also would have a government that was a theocratic dictatorship, just as exists in Iran.

I liked this article by Barbara Ehrenreich in The Progressive from which this excerpt comes:

As for Jesus being a socialist, I take it back. He was actually a little to the left of that, judging from his instruction to the rich man to sell all that he had and give to the poor. If that's what it takes to be a true Christian, believe me, it's a hell of a lot easier to be a socialist: You have to dedicate yourself to working for the poor, just as a Christian should, but at least you get to keep your stuff. The topic of Christian altruism v. socialist pragmatism could, I thought, entertain the rightwing radio talk show audiences for weeks

Rawbunzel, you are always too generous! I haven't been able to sleep for the past 3 weeks so I'll come to the RT and write stuff, then in the morning I'm always embarrassed to see what I've written - don't tell anyone , OK?

Comrade Helen, (I call you comrade so you'll think of me as one of your close friend)

Yes I knew that. Of course it's seems to be twisted a bit in this thread.
We were founded pretty much on judo-Christian principal.

Who says Jesus was a Commie? He came from a good family. May have been gambling and slumming for the 30 years that info is missing about him.

Maybe his casting off of riches was his way of repenting. Who can say for sure. There's no data or info on this.

Of course I could make something up, send it to a couple of the more naive websites (the ones you cut and paste from) then it could be the TRUTH.

Now if you'll join me in a prayer.

Amen,
Reverend Colin
