Jan...
Thanks for your additional comments to RB and me. I just read it after posting the above comments.
I believe I acknowledged that there are varying degrees and types of responses you will find on any of the chat boards here and anywhere. Above I tried to express my belief that people tend to change their level and method of response as they experience life's events.
Therefore, if I am following my own philosophy about species ability to change, then I must find it sad that one will allow the belief and behavior of another to control their actions. For me to leave a site (job or auction site on-line) because I don't like what some do or say, I am denying me and only I have to suffer the consequences of my decision. I've met bullys and uncooth people all through my life and have been able to continue my path of travel if I wished to. If I left a job the I must accept it as MY wish to leave and not because I was reacting to someone else who was not in charge of MY serenity.
Wouldn't it be a nice world if we could allow others to be themselves (terrible or not) without making it our mission to change them so we can be happier. If we don't like the action or words of another then our serenity can be maintained if we post a disagreement (tactfully) and them move on without engagin in an on-going, disrupting WAR of words and emotions.
I seek not to change you, but I am only putting forth my views that have been formulated by my life's experiences. If they serve to alter the learning curve of another, then I'm happy I could help. I do not mean to be inflammatory or insist that anyone do it my way.

Dreamgirl,
I thank YOU for the intelligent and insiteful response. I absolutely agree with your theories and your suggested proper responses to such situations.
I feel that the majority of the knowledgeable posters who could have helped new sellers and the site the most, and who are no longer posting (I could name id's, but do not agree with this practice)have not been "run-off" by a few, but have made a personal choice not to waste their time on a fruitless venture. That is just plain good business sense.
The time comes when those who are wise, will step back, take a realistic and unbiased appraisal of the entire scene and make a decision as to whether or not they want to continue in their efforts (which require a great deal of time spent) when, in fact, it appears they may never reep any profits from the site. Where are those bidders? The site will not survive with sellers buying from sellers alone.
If the situation changes, I would consider returning to the site for the purpose of selling, however, I would not participate in anyway on the chat boards as I see them as a hindrence to the site and unproductive.

Jan....
Thanks once again. You are absolutely correct when you say each of us must make a decision for ourselves as to how best to run our business. If a site is not one that supports our wares, we would be wise to assess it as not meeting our needs and put our efforts elsewhere.
Regarding buyers. I feel personally that this subject is always painted with a broad brush. Many declare that there arent' any buyers or that they are all the same old buyers with most being sellers buying from one another. Whether a buyer is also a seller is not important to me. A sale is a sale. Evidently, there appears to be enough selling going on to continue making some happy. I for one, wait for sales and am happy when they come. I don't work especially hard at maintaining my listings right now and do not work particularly hard recruiting people to my listings because of this. Consequently, I am not selling alot right now. I have been surprised by continued sales to "new" (for me) customers who find my stuff anyway.
So, bottom line, I am content at present and evidently there are others also. ALL will express a desire for more buyers even on some of the more well known sites. It's slow all over and probably somewhat in part of the tragedy with the mail right now. People probably aren't looking for ways to get more mail at present. Nevertheless, I continue to be optimistic about growth of Bidville and truly expect it to continue with up and down trends just like the market.
Isn't it wonderful we have the freedom to pursue life the way we want? Legally of course.

I understand! I too have the patience to wait for a site to mature and am presently doing so elsewhere where the atmosphere is more congenial and the sellers are working together towards the success of the site. If success does not occur, I will be able to live with that.
I DO wish Bidville success. You are correct, the overall economy is not helping at the moment, but certainly not the major problem.
Auction sites are not my main selling avenue. I have owned my own .com for 5 yrs. now, it has been successful, and I use the auctions as a means of advertising.
Everything I have learned has been from a very informative Sellers Club at Yahoo! Clubs. The Club was started about 4 yrs. ago as a means for new sellers to meet and learn from seasoned sellers. I had never sold before joining this Club. Thus my current decision to stop wasting my time on unmonitored chat boards riddled with dissention and misinformation. This, in itself, has been yet another learning experience for me!
Wishing you success along with enjoyment of your venture. I must take a peek at your auctions! Given your overall good additute, you have got to be one heck of a seller!

They play it all the time with the exception of the losers still thinking paying their life savings there is worth the time.
