Unless it changes yet again you can lurk
Only if you are a member. You can lurk at any other auction venue without registering ... Bidville still wants your secret code before you can even view the turmoil.

Maybe you missed this post Buzz ...
Bidsbids
you have to keep sharp eye on those constant revisions of BV policy. When I last looked they had changed from you must be verified to access Community to you must be verified to post to Community. Unless it changes yet again you can lurk but you'll have to pay to have a voice there.
new non-membership, non-verified site users can now view the boards. There was no oficail announcement of this major change, just a very slight rewording of the verification page I believe. Perhaps they were to embarassed to admit their stupid error but it makes them look sneaky and clumsier than ever.

It is ashame and a waste of talent and time to bring personal agendas regarding hatred of BV to the thread that AW started regarding a change in format. Ah, but though so be it.

DREAMGIRL:
Aren't you over-reacting just a bit? What was said that implies "hatred" of BV?
Title is NEW MESSAGE CENTER FORMAT and that is being discussed re: both AW and BV.

Not sure where you get that thought dreamgirl from the posts on this thread. The only "thing" in life that I have a hatred for (that's a very strong word btw) is root canals.

I'm always interested in a decent AW style message board. Feel free to email me at [email protected] with information...
I can't imagaine what this place will be like once this policy comes into play. It was after all, the wide range of posters, (full time sellers, hobby sellers, and part time bidders) that made this place interesting.
Once only the credit card AW bulk loader users are left, this will become more like a social club and less like a place for discussion, education, and yes - even arguments.
What was the best online auction discussion site online is about to become a "gated community" with all the stale and stagnent concepts that live in such places...
AW --- won't you reconsider this move before its too late?

Buzz ... Sorry, when I wrote non-membership I was refering to the Premium Membership part of BV ( remember the BV "no hidden fees ever" pledge? ).
Registering at BV is very simple. There are well over 1,000 free email services that BV still gladly accepts registration from though the proudly claim to have blocked all but paid ISP email accounts. If you are totally banned by IP address then you will have to use a free service like SafeWeb to log in and register and then view the message boards.

bidsbids ... thanks for clarifying that.
There are several different ways to get past the "you need a password to view the boards" roadblock, but I am not interested enough to do this. I was just wondering if perhaps He was re-allowing non-members to be able to view the boards before they decide to register or not.
Do you think the general tone of the boards may be the reason He has implemented this policy? I know when I used to post there it was pretty "hot" and it would have scared away many potential members if they saw the kind of partners they were going to have. Things may have changed since then though.
I still don't know of any other venue that requires you to be a registered member before you can simply read. Requiring membership to participate in a discussion is another issue.
Thanks again ... thought my PC was being silly again when I tried to look

You're right about that aspect too. It's like buying a car without the test drive. The boards are full of "I got scammed again" posts and "Deadbeat bidders alert" posts as well as "My mother's next door neighbor died today" tear jerker posts and of course Lil Abner mentality posts from various posters
