299,000+ books and a 5 feedback rating with $6 Priority Mail s/h as only shipping option.
A sweetheart deal that was never discussed or mentioned anywhere on BV announcement board. It's almost like the CEO is mad at the loyal site users? No Merry Christmas message, no nothing for 6 months. Is he even alive?

I don't know..I think it was in bad taste to not say anything for the holidays too. Maybe he is an atheist?
The 1 million stays static, but the smaller numbers have gone from the 84,000's to the 58,000's. I'm assuming anything over that small fluctuation are dead in the water, uncared for auctions.
I think that the relists should go to 5 only and only up to ten days.
I would just really like to see the true stats there.

I like the 5 relists at 10 days idea. The absentee sellers would have to relist their items or lose them after a while.
BV was Ed's darling in the beginning. He went on the chat boards and solicited ideas and input. He spoke of his personal matters and his beloved Jen. Now he is like Howard Hughes hiding out in his penthouse with long hair and fingernails and afraid of germs. What a transformation. He gave some hints of an emotional side in his posts here at AW and at his suspension of Buzzoon at BV and his emotional side may have gotten the best of him unfortunately. I once worked with a guy that had trouble with women all the time. He said that the six month mark was very crucial in all of his relationships with women because the thrill and ga-ga attitude wore off and he longed for his freedom more than his woman at that point. Unfortunately he often married at the four month mark in a relationship and he had a sizeable collection of failed marriages. As long as he had his truck, his saddle and his horse he was happy though.

Sad thing is a meant it! LOL!!!
Hi bidsbids The listings are going crazy but the bids fell away to (near) nothing after the first week. I listed 75 items, sold 25 and made $152.00. No deadbeats! (woohoo)Had to remove my listings for fear of who might be bidding.lol It has become a practice in fear and domination over there. I am thinking the numbers will fall sharply after the 16th. Alot of people are still wandering in asking "What is verification?". That can't be good.

I don't expect an immediate huge drop. It's only $5/yr. Many sellers will leave on principle or think that the always free promise will maybe turn into $10/yr and then $15/yr. ,etc.
Most sellers with large inventories of slow moving items can send them on a 600 day re-listing run and pick up an occassional sale here and there. It's a free shot.
A slight drop in listings should come from sellers moving their items to other sites as they realize that new buyers are not coming to the site because of the unique and weird verification rules and lack of advertizing, as well as a once-friendly and communicative site owner that has not communicated with his flock in almost six months.
Another slight but continual drop in listing should come from the sellers that have warehoused common items and placed them on long relist runs. Many of these sellers have no clue that they will have to pay money to re-list or list new items and will not be able to do so and may feel even $5/yr is not worth the price.
Big drops could come from unconventional sources such as a new auction site backed by a mega corporation or another small site that gets the right formula for gathering both buyers and sellers.
Discontent with BV management and cliques should erode the listings numbers the most.
Hi Kodi ... bundle up ( duh )
Here's a theory on the constant climb in listings at BV. Sellers may be using BV as a poor man's storefront and including as many links to their BV auctions as they can at other auctions. Setting up your own website can get expensive and can be a hassle.
Many of the auction sites are onto this game and forbid links to other auctions.
Sounds plausible to me. Sorta.

Bidsbids,
In my opinion, the verification requirement is probably not having much affect on large sellers which would be required in order to cause large short term fluctuations in the listing numbers. Couple of reasons for this. One, most large sellers are premium program members. If you belong to the premium program, your verification was automatic and you don't pay a verification fee. Second, a large seller who does not want to pay the verification fee and is not a premium member probably has their items on a max auto relist. They probably are letting the items run until they expire.
Now the increase in listings since Christmas has been almost all sports cards. This increase in also happening on Yahoo. The sports card listings on Yahoo have grown from about 25,000 prior to Christmas (and after free listings) to over 35,000 now. My opinion is that this is probably a seasonal quirk. The first 2002 baseball card sets have been released and it is playoff time in football. Both of these events usually drive a temporary increase in listings.

I see that the sports cards listings are gaining at the expense of non-sports related items. I believe it is as you stated. Many of the large card sellers are Premium menbers and they can keep their items/images hosted on BV for $5/month. They can send buyers of their items on other sites to view their entire inventory on BV. It doesn't matter if BV is as dead as a graveyard because they are using the site as a store. I have discussed the same principal in the Carnaby thread here at AW.
It is a good idea to use BV or Carnaby or most other small sites not as active action venues but as a very low cost store-like setup. That is what must be happening with most items at BV. BV is particularily attractive with its 600 day single listing run ( 20 relists @ 30 days a pop ). The numbers should rise as sellers use the site more and more as a store rather than an auction.

The least expensive internet storefront. Simply list everything you have with a Buy It Now and get the View my other auctions link and use it on all letters and EOA's from other auctions and the sig file you use on message borads, etc. Run a few auctions on other auctions and use BV as your home base. A bargain in that regard and you would have to be foolish to pay $7/month + 5% FVF and 5 cents a listing for a regular auction store at many other auctions.
