Sorry poton, but that's annoying too. It will not increase bidding on your auctions, and could do the opposite. It took my computer 20 seconds to load that file, so that means it might take 20 extra seconds for your auction pictures to load. That's not good.

GBoy:

People don't ever notice if a background sound is loading or not, why? Because sounds load at the very end (when the page is completely loaded), even if your sound server is down and unable to load your midi, people won't notice that because they'll be more interested in reading your auction's description.

What I can see here is that most of people inserted the link of the sound at the beginning of the page, WRONG the sound link must be inserted at the end of the HTML so, it loads at the very end, when the entire ebay description is loaded.

OK, but even if it does load at the very end, it's still a bad idea because my computer occasionally crashes when trying to load an auction with a sound file. I've heard it happens to other people too.

It's a bad idea to do anything that will annoy bidders. Will it annoy every bidder? Maybe not. Will it annoy some? Definitely.

James

that depends of the computer owner, that's why your browser has more than 20 options to customize it to your needs. I'm not talking about your computer speakers, I'm talking about your browser's options. Like any web page James, you will like some stuff from it, but also will hate part of it, especially on eBay, where you are dealing with millions of people a day, probably 80% will hate my page and the other %20 will like it.

486 is no longer a good computer

It was fast created, the real one sounds perfectly.

CD,

My computer is much faster than a 486. One shouldn't assume, because it makes an as...ah, nevermind.

My auctions are basically customized for people who has good computers and fast connections, so I know they have the cash to spend, and not dead bids.

Personal Opinon Only: I really dislike sound!

Also, I notice you are using Ebay's LOGO...I may be wrong, but I thought one could not do that.

The page wouldn't load for me either. It stalled at about 80%.

I say, if you like it, use it. I think many posters here demonstrate a kind of technophobia, believing that eBay auctions should be limited to plain text and a single photo.

I prefer to make my auctions nice to look at and fun. It's a matter of taste, or perhaps a question of your target audience.

Here's a text art image I created for a new auction. I like it:

Just my two cents.

We use a cable connection, and have a fairly fast (PII 400) system. Sounds don't crash my browser or lock up my system, but I STILL hate them and hit my back button as soon as I can.

I don't like sounds that interfere with my mp3's playing etc either.

Go ahead and add the sound if you want to cdprogram. You'll never know how many folks hit the back button without evening looking at your auctions. People with slow modems and older systems still have money to spend, they'll just find another seller to give it to.

twin..Your Doom banner looks nice and it is NOT sound...

I don't have any problems with my PC either..Everything loads fast (except some of the BIGGEST pictures which are still trying to load...)I also by=pass those...No big pics, no sound, no anim..Just a clean, concise ad with as many good pics as possible...

Poton...I gather you are also cdprogram? ...your 2 IDs confused me...

Hi, Shosh. I'm still debating whether to add a midi file to the auction. Doom players are a pretty dedicated lot and I don't think it will discourage bidders.

On the other hand. sound files do tend to load slowly and slow the page down. I also believe that many bidders are surfing eBay at work, so I hesitate to create a page that goes off like a four-alarm fire.

If you have a vendatta against people who view your auctions from work, this would be a great way to make sure they get busted...

Yea, I can just see it..."LOOK HONEY, THIS AUCTION HAS A SOUND GREETING!!! I wasn't really planning on bidding on this beanie baby at first, but since it has a SOUND GREETING, I THINK I'LL BID $50!!! WHAT THE HECK, MAKE IT $70!!!! I CAN'T WAIT TO CHECK HIS OTHER AUCTIONS!!!

Hi, Poton. As I wrote before, the page didn't finish loading for me, it hung before it loaded entirely. You can put the sound at the bottom of your code, but it will still be above the code eBay uses for accepting bids. So if your page hangs for me, I couldn't place a bid even if I wanted to.

I still say you're the best judge of your page and I'm glad it's working out for you. Why not make me one and I'll play around with it? My user ID is gratefuldad and my email addy is [email protected]. Thanks!

poton,

Please edit out the URL that you have listed in your post above. This thread appears to be becoming promotional in nature.. not a good thing.

I can't give you much time for this edit, so please do it quickly or I will have to delete your entire post.

Believe it or not but some people think that way, because they don't know how to spend their fortune, while other only dream. So, don't expect everybody to act like you there are so many millions of people that will love to spend their time and money in anything they like. My greeting is just a welcome sound that many people love to hear from their seller.
