Hey dble - Buy the book. take a little time and read it before you go any farther because it is clear that you have limited understanding of what really went on. The break-in was the catalyst that started the investigation, it was not the only crime. The Nixon Whitehouse was one riddled with corruption and a complete disregard for the constitution.

Clearly and purposely limited fenix. I know enough about it as I want to know to form my opinion. Which you are free to showcase your disagreement of. But unlike you, I am not fascinated by mans darker nature or quest for power. Nor the fact that corruption in politics has always existed in U.S. Government and elsewhere. It does not readily fall into my fascination category and is never a big revelation to me - especially among men in high places. Remember that channeling thing? I do believe I have been a fly on many a wall. You and I just dont share the same filters of what is interesting.

Kraft - I really did not know. I didn't know enough about all of the players to be able to figure it out. While I was reading the book last week I was trying to remember the little things in mentions of him that might be a clue but I hadn't really gotten into trying to figure it out when the announcement came yesterday. Did you know that there is not a single mention of Felt in the book?

Deep Depakote?? I was in that too. I played Miss Canada.
Fenix, the only time I ever heard Felt's name was once when Bob Woodward was discussing this on Larry King. I haven't read the book - is it a good read?

I thought it was a very good read. Seeing how all of this snowballed, the number of people involved, the work involved in getting the story, how many times it almost came to a complete halt and then someone else came forward and not only opened the road they were on up again but brought three more to light.
There are also some interesting similarities in how the press was portrayed at the time and how it is being portrayed today.

Now that Felt has told he was Deep Throat and Linda_K thought she had become a porn star. We can all watch the right wing talking heads discredit him. Yes, they will say all kinds of nasty things about this man. Just like the wacko right did about Clarke and O'Neill. Remenber?
If the American people think this man is a hero the right will worry. They will worry that another MORAL PERSON will come forward with information about Bush White House.
I bet the bull roar has started already on the right's talk shows.

I agree with classic's take on this issue....posted on page one. I also think another reason, besides getting even for not getting that job he wanted, that this was disclosed now...is because his family wants to make money off of it before he dies.
But since he apparantly doesn't have the mental abilities to make the 'agreement reached' stand....ie: until his death - his family and cohorts decided to get the money while the gettin's good.

And from some of what I've read....very little really...it's 30 years ago and holds little interest to me personally, but others are saying they don't believe it was JUST this ONE man...but that other's did the same. It's just that his family and his 'buds' decided to take full credit and the money along with it.

So what if the family makes money off this...Republicans don't believe in making money ???
It's an important historical event...finding out , for sure, who deep throat was.
The guy was a hero....no matter what his reasons he did a brave thing to expose those criminals.

And lord knows that the talking heads know more about the situation than the actual people involved. That said - There has never been a claim that there was a single person behind the investigation, there were a number of people that acted as sources for the Post. It's been funny watching all the Fox commentators try to imply that he was a traitor and handed over confidential reports, etc considering that Woodward seemed to be in a constant state of frustration over the fact that DT would never just come out and say anything directly. He would only confirm information they already had or tell them when they were heading in the wrong direction and try to point him in the right direction. He was more the compass, he didn't really ever seem to be the road map.
As for those that say that he should have gone to prosecuters with the info instead of the press and that that is proof he is just being bitter and vindictive.. they are apparently forgetting that Nixon declared immunity from testimony for the major players early in the game and fired the first prosecutor.

What money? No money so far Linda. Vanity Fair did not pay for the story. There could be money in the long run (if he had the forsight to right his memoirs after he retired) but I'm not even sure why everyone is so obsessed with the money info. Are people just hoping that if they smear Felt enough that others will forget just how corrupt and dispicable the Nixon administration was?

I wonder if any of these people ever read the book? There are over a dozen named almost as many unnamed sources referrenced in it. Deep throat was merely the higest ranking source and the one that knew the most about the entire picture. Other sources involved knew about the individual crimes but DT was the one that seemed to know the most about the big picture and the main players.
BTW - Am I the only one that saw Liddy on Fox this morning? Here's a guy being asked if W&B's lives were ever in danger as they were warned and his oh so relaxed answer was... No, because if such an order had gone out, I was the one that would have received it. It was a really strange reply and disturbing delivery. Not at all incredulous at the concept.

I wonder how many REALLY care what happened over 30 years ago. Liberals might..and I have no doubt they'll try and get the most then can out of keeping this issue current.
As far as books go...especially ones dealing with political issues....I think they just speak to the choir.
Even the lefties that would read a book that declares IT shows proof, gives references to say all the illegal dealings of the clinton admin., I don't really see many dems believing them.
[clearer hopefully] - those political books tend to be believed by those who already are against the party being reamed...on both sides.

Linda, it sure is great fodder for the talkshow circuits, though!! I wonder how many days they will milk it for what its worth and get to say "deepthroat" 40 times in 4 hours? Must be quite a thrill to say that over and over all day. lol. Cnn hasnt been that bad with it as they are doing their own walk down memory lane and at least it is a little bit more interesting than all this.
I am trying to catch wolf Blitzer at the moment - saw a blurb that said LOVE LITERALLY MAKES YA CRAZY! Now you know I want to see the scientific evidence for this one! lol!!!
