::A buck huh? Thats probably more insulting than leaving nothing!::
Depends on where you are staying.
The only tip that really irritates me is hotel room service. How many people know that a 15% tip is included in the bill at many hotels? I have no problem tipping and am quite capable of doing it all by myself, I don't need managements help and unless you read the fine print on the menus you don't realise that when you add a few extra to the bill as a tip that in reality, you are double tipping.

LOL kiara....and here I thought you were the one who was always saying you stand by your comments. Guess that didn't include leaving that nastiness for all to read how you really are...really can be...and it was all over what?...nothing important at all. Just FLEW into rage mode and blasted her...and had to apologize for your lack of reading skills.
Yes, it was good to see you apologize for a change....you should have and you owed her at least that much.

lol, imo, depends on how many milky way wrappers you decided were just fine right there on all around the bed and floor, or how many half cups of coffee you left leaking in the trash can cause you couldnt be bothered to spill them out in the sink, or how about - how much hock you left in that sink for the sweetie to clean up...
Here's a buck sweetie. I just know it made yer day!

Linda_k, I mistook what Libra63 meant with her comment and I said something that perhaps Libra63 didn't want me to say about her (info from her previous posts) and I had second thoughts and decided to edit it. I actually thought about her feelings and it's something I won't mention again out of respect for her.
Are you happy now, Linda_k or are you just being nosy that you may have missed something so you'd like to twist it to suit your own interpretation of my feelings?

There were many items on fenix's link that I've never tip for....
furniture movers, appliances delivery people, etc.
The way I look at tipping is it's for 'special' results. They are all paid for the job they do. Should they do something more than their job, something special/unusual...then I give them a tip. If I get service 'above and beyond' I give them a tip.
One area I've always felt that tipping was
really un-necessary was to the hairdressers/stylists. Although I do tip if I'm extremely happy with my haircut/style....I haven't met one yet that charges less than $15.00 for a simple cut...and it ususally takes less than an hour. Not bad wages for a few months of training. Then I've been in other Salons where they charge up to $60.00 for a simple cut. Depends on the skill level of the stylist and how happy you are with the results you get.

lol sw! Actually Linda, I dont know if you know this, but most hairdressers pay a rent for their chair space in a shop so I dont know what percentage of the full dollar on the haircut they receive amounts to either.

I was thinking of Libra’s feelings and she knows exactly what I said and if she wishes to disclose it, she’s free to do it for the nosy ones.
I really have to ask some of you guys, how come every topic I post to, you spend more time directing silly, nasty comments about me than you do to the actual subject being discussed? The Dateline one on Bangladesh slave labor is a good example of that.
Feeling guilty because you don’t think you tip enough or because you also shop Walmart……. ??
… maybe looking to save a quarter on those big-ass pants that stre-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-etch to fit your butt as it grows wider from sitting all day haunted by past posts I’ve made or else praising your president.

Its not me that has the "L" sisters on the attack. Its their own stupidity,BIG MOUTHS and BULL ROAR.
Hey Libra like crow said if you don't "STAY IN MOTELS" then my post had nothing to do with you. I can see how you got your narrow minded, tunnel vision, mindset. You need to get a life and get around more so you can start understanding the bigger picture.
About tipping Maids that are republicans sure why not. I don't have problems with level minded people from the republican party. I only have problems with PHONY,NARROW MINDED,SELF-SERVING,GREEDY,GOLD HEARTED,RIGHT WING REPUBLICANS. Like a hand full on this board.
Now again about tipping the Maids. The ones I have talked to would be very happy if people left a dollar or 2 in their rooms. If they got 20 to 25 dollars a day more all said, YES,THE EXTRA MONEY WOULD MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN THEIR LIVES.
To the people that show me the difference between being educated and being smart. I will chip in a few extra dollars on your behalf.
I suggested a couple dollars because the Maids liked the idea and all said it would make a difference. Also the same ones that slammed me about this amount would have their Azzes in a uproar if I said maybe we should all leave $10.00 or $15.00. You phonies all know that is true so you can all stuff your stupid words. Some of you people do nothing more than prey on the poor.

::Although I do tip if I'm extremely happy with my haircut/style....I haven't met one yet that charges less than $15.00 for a simple cut...and it ususally takes less than an hour.::
But are you taking into effect that the stylist is an independent contractor? That they are paying rent on that space that you sit in and depending on the salon are also purchasing all products used and their equipment (decent scissors start at about $100, good schissors are even more)? Generally a person charging $15-20 for a simple cut is paying about $150 a week for their chair so unless they are heavily booked (rare during the weekdays) it takes 2 days of work to pay for the chair. They are also responsible for all of their own taxes, don't have paid sick days and no insurance. As a general rule, stylists that are on the $15-20 cut route are living cut to cut and often that tip is lunch or goes towards the continuing education that helps them move up to the $50-60 cuts (where rent is more and they still don't have benefits).
Why do you tip them? Because it's the difference between a stylist that will move their calendar around to fit you in at the last minute when it is urgently important as opposed to telling you they have no opening, or will use the high end product on your hair as opposed to what will get the job done or any of the dozens of little things they can do to make things just a little more special as opposed to just doing the job.

Oh look....four posts in a row from the one who needs attention so she insults about things she knows nothing about. As usual for her. She's getting more and more like crowfarm everyday.
Sinking to new lows....
---------
dbl - Yes, I have know that for years...and different shops have different rules on percentages. I think most do a 60/40 deal...but that's just here and in the area of CA I was in. I'm just pointing out that when a hairdresser can cut three heads of hair in an hour....at a min. of $15.00 each...that's not low wages...like those of say the maids or housecleaners we've spoken about here.
My neighbor worked for someone else in town...60/40 deal then opened her own shop. Expenses she tells me run her about 10% of her gross, a month and the rest is pure profit. She currently brings in right around $3,000. a month..net for working only 3 1/2 days a week.

wow! Four posts in a row!! Your or my words must be haunting her Linda!!
hahahahah!!!
Peepa I think people should start tipping me for excellent customer service and sales performance on ebay.
And the difference between smart and educated? Well, 1st of all whats a gold heart? And secondly, maybe if you could, you'd figure out the difference between a genuine gratuity and just being sorely gratuitous.
And I agree, Linda if you've build up some following you can make some money and its not stagnant like a maid's salary. You can even to it on the side and not report that part to anyone if you choose to.

fenix On their cost of doing business.....that's their responsibility to set their prices accordingly....not the customers. They know what their total expenses are...and charge accordingly....or should be doing so if they actually want to make any profit from their business.

I agree dbl, they can and do [if they wish] make money on the side out of their own places or the homes of other clients.
An example of that was a stylist I had in CA. Met her at SuperCuts when I went in for a quick cut for split ends. Really like her a lot...and she had a whole other side business going on where she came out to peoples homes and did anything and everything they needed done. From that point on she came to my house once a month for a cut and [at that time] perm every two months. It was wonderful and so convenient for me. Now I tipped her VERY WELL. Because it was something she was willing to do....again 'above and beyond' a normal hairstylist.

No name calling here huh!
Since I don't save threads to my email box I have no idea what she said so lets forget it. But Kiara I cannot forget the names that bigpeepa calls me and he has done it again. How does he know we are narrow minded, unless he is one. You heard the saying "It takes one to know one".
I suggested a couple dollars because the Maids liked the idea. Sure dangle money in front of anyone and they would like the idea. That makes sense...BTW the tip you leave is tax deductible. Do they know that.
Most of our furniture stores do not deliver their own furniture. We have one in the area but they do charge a $15.00 delivery charge so if you think I am tipping them you are badly mistaken. The other stores we also pay for delivery.
As I said I just had my hair cut. Simple style, $15.00 for 10 minutes, I did tip her 20% because of the space they rent from the owner.
My pet peeve is the restaurant that puts an automatically 20% on the bill for the tip. I won't go to those places because the waitress knows she is getting a tip so I don't think they serve the customer right. I also don't like pooling tips. I know that the bus boys/girls deserve something but I don't think the bartender does and they don't pool their tips. I think when the end of the evening comes each server counts their tip money and give the bus boy/girl the amount they deserve for cleaning the tables.
Now as for the maids, everything is provided by the motel owner. The only thing provided by the maid is the clothes they wear so they have no added expense. I think 5 years ago we went to New Orleans for 3 days. We did stay in a motel, never saw the maid, but then again she/he didn't do anything to our room. We made our own bed and cleaned up after ourselves. That is 3 days they didn't do anything to our room. We still paid the required amount but we never saw the maid.
Some of you people do nothing more than prey on the poor Are you speaking from experience? Bigpeepa I think you had better quit telling me what I do and don't do before you get into trouble and have to eat your words. My husband and I give a lot and to have you say those words is sickening. Don't try to sound so pompous. Is your motto "do as I say and not as I do" To say someone doesn't do something is speculation on your part and I for one am really sick of it and I am sure there are others that feel the same. You come in here screaming that people don't know their mindset. Maybe you need to learn that the people you are screaming at are giving people even though we are Republicans. It doesn't matter what party we belong to. It doesn't mean that we believe in everything that party does. It only means to me that I believe they have more family values than the other party and by now you should know what my values are. But that is my opinion and please no need to trash that as we all have a right to an opinion.

Then if they're of such low importance, please don't comment on all of them and try to move on.
Tell me more about those split ends as I'm wondering why others get them so often and I don't. Do you tear your hair out in aggravation or something? Is it stress? Must be a b!tch each time your president screws up and you've got to rush in and defend him, eh? Would that cause it?

Kiara I know for a fact my daughter gets her long hair cut every other month because of split ends, as my granddaughter does. My granddaughter's blond hair it to her butt and it needs that little bit of cutting, first to cut the split ends and the next to keep it looking good. Split ends make the ends of the hair fuzzy and then it looks bad. It doesn't happen in short hair but then again people with short hair also get their hair cut that often because they don't like it longer.
