People in New Hampshire are twice as much in credit-card debt, car loans and the like as those in Oklahoma. How do your state's debtors stack up? Theres something about New England that makes people spend, spend, spend.
According to data compiled from approximately 3 million consumers by credit-reporting agency Experian, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Rhode Island have the highest average overall debt in the nation. As of March, the average debt for people living in these states totaled $16,845, $15,314 and $14,643, respectively. Massachusetts, Maine and Delaware followed closely behind.
Experian classifies debt as everything present on a credit report, including revolving and most installment debt. Revolving debt includes money you would owe on standard bank and retail-store credit cards, where the creditor sets your monthly payment based on the current balance. Installment debt is money you would owe to a creditor who expects repayment over a set period of time in equal monthly amounts, such as a car loan.
Here is a map/legend with all the states in highest ranking order.

dbl. I think it is because the population of DC is very low. If the congressmen own houses in DC that is usually their second home so the debt would fall on their state, that is if they have any debt.

The DC population is not all that low but it is rather poor. Hard to rack up debt when you don't make enough money to get credit. Unemployment rate in DC is among the highest in the country at 8%.
Most of those high paid government employees do not live in DC. They live in Northern Virginia.
BTW Dbl - I am now officially depressed. I got a quote on needed dental work last week and it seems that is more than the average debt of residents of New Hampshire. Boo-Hoo!!

Fenix can't you go to Mexico to get the work done? I have friends that live in San Diego and they have done that.

Ron - I was thinking about for awhile and even talked to a couple but because of the extent of work I have to get done I'm more comfortable having it done here. I have a good friend who is a dentist in Mexico and when I told him everything that has to be done he thought it would probably be better to get it done here too.
I have three teeth that were basically sheered off at gum level in an accident so I have to have a surgeon go in and remove the remaining parts of the teeth and then set screws into the bone for implants. I actually have to have 4 implants plus crowns on all of my front teeth which are doomed because there is no enamel on them.

Wow fenix I just can't image that dental bill. I am having a marilyn bridge put in with some other things and that is going to cost plenty. I know what charges are in the mid west as my daughter works for a dentist but I would think on the west coast they would be higher. But with good dental work you sure will feel better. Good Luck

Libra - right now, loose estimate is 20K. I wish I could do a bridge but the problem is that they are my back teeth so there is nothing to connect the bridge to. I'm not looking forward to it (I have to be knocked out for a simple cleaning so you know how fun I think this will be) and I really need to take a couple days and sit down and figure out what needs to happen to add that to my income. I think that is why I was "Motivation Deficient", that quote has being weighing hard on my brain.
Thanks for the good wishes!
Stop - the list is based on per capita averages, not population totals. Personally, not that shocked that Oklahoma is low... is there anything worth owning there.

Fenix I am just the opposite. The less Novocaine I can get the better. I hate that stuff believe it or not I would rather have the pain. Pulling teeth is different I will take it then, but I never get knocked out. I don't know why but I just wouldn't be able to do it. My dentist has the neatest wand that he uses for Novocaine, which I had to have some as he pulled a tooth, you never feel the shot or the effects of the Novocaine. What advances in dentistry since my first visit about 100 years ago. (insert smiley face).
My goodness you will have to do a lot of selling on eBay if your going to pay for that but in the long run it will be worth it. I guess you could say a complete makeover. I even get a discount but it will still cost me plenty. Vacation is out of the question this year but watch out next year. Maybe I will visit a few motels. (insert smiley face)

wow fenix, that is major surgery, not just dental work! You will definitely have to quit smoking (at least temporarily) or your gums will really get bad in the aftermath of that healing going on!
Here's an idea though! Why dontcha go commit a crime, go to prision and have it all done for free? ROFL!! just kidding!!

Needles don't bother me. For me it is the sounds and the even the smell of the office. It's my irrational phobia born of having 2-4 teeth pulled at a time as a kid. Too many teeth, not enough room in my mouth so my dentist just started yanking. After 22 extractions (they took 4 adults as well) in about 4 years... I'm certifiably phobic so I have to be gassed or I'm a cringing, biting, basketcase.
As for my sales... yeah - ebay is going to be loving me and the fees I produce on this quest.
Let me know what hotels you plan to hit, I'll give you tip suggestions

Yeah, there you go dbl... I'm already working myself into a little stressball and you pick NOW to tell me to quit smoking. Truth though, I know and I don't actually have a problem quitting. I've done it a few times before. I generally start up again when my insomnia kicks in and bored out of my skull at 4am. I have a feeling that insomnia won't be a problem with the post surgical pain killers.

yea fenix, Im sorry, I was kidding ya, but that is not a minor ordeal at to face in all ways let alone financially!
Have you thought about getting a temporary job for dental insurance? Would that cover some of it even? It's major surgury isnt it? Or is it considered cosmetic? Or have you considered just getting false teeth? They are much better with them then they used to be. And I know back in the eighties I had considered implants instead of crowns, but after they told me about the rejection and healing rate it scared me... plus I had some jaw bone loss going on already, and my dentist was not sure it was a good idea for me. (Of course that was back in the 80ties when the technology was relatively new too.)

The nice thing about Novocaine is it's completely local. There's no way to overdose on it. As a result, after the dentist's usual 3 shots, when he asks "can you feel that?" I always answer "umh-hmm...hurths doo", so he gives me another shot, which of course I can't feel anymore. After three or four more I'm numb from my forehead to my collarbone and there's no chance of any discomfort. Drooling?...isn't that what shirtfronts are for??

Checking out the map, guess what group holds the largest amount of debt? Demorons. Each of the states that have high concentrations of Demorons, there is a clear correlation to debt and the lefties. Maybe that is why they always want to raise taxes. So they can try to convince everyone that we all need their help instead of telling the Demorons to pull up their boot straps and pay their debt on their own as they should.

Prof - ROFL!!!
Dbl - Most employers do not offer dental coverage and those that do require at least 90 days of full time employment before they start. Then you have deductables and limited coverage and depending on the policy, no coverage on pre-existing conditions. The other problem is that most employers are not all that impressed when during the interview you ask if you may inspect the terms of their dental policy.
In my case implants are not considered cosmetic because I no longer have grinding surfaces so it is actually impeding my ability to eat correctly. I'm using the premolars right now and keeping this up is going to mean that I am going to need work on them before long.
The dentist I talked to did bring up partial rear dentures but the biggest cost involved in dealing with my back teeth is the surgery to have the existing fragments removed. I'm going to have to do that with either option so I figure if it costs me 10-15% more to have something stable and permanent I may as well go full out and do it right the first time.
I do know you were just joking around. I was too. Hell, I gotta joke or I'll lose my mind.

Hey profe, next time you visit your dentist ask him when he is going to get the wand. A great piece of equipement. It disperses novocaine. No shot and very painless. I had it the other day and I was't even numb, at least it didn't feel numb and I felt no pain. Great piece of equipment.
Well fenix I hate to be you. Well in the sense about the dentistry. When are you going to start soon? Do you have all your chores does at your Parents? I wish you luck.

Really? stonecold. I can't access the link, but that sure wouldn't surprise me at all.
But I did take the quiz....thought I'd do better than I did [85 out of 100] but I can see that on at least one question, we just disagree on how to best invest my money.
Did anyone else take the quiz?

fenix - I, too, am sorry to hear about your needed dental work and the expense of it all. I forget where you said your parents lived, but might it be cheaper to have this work done in their state? I know dental work here is less expensive than it was in CA. Just one example was in CA the last cap I had done cost approx. $875. and that was at least 8 years ago, maybe longer. And I just needed another one done this month and it was just under $600. here, including full mouth x-rays and he built it while I waited in his office. One day deal, took about 2 1/2 hours...used a computer to make the cap. Was really interesting to watch it being done. I mention that so you don't think that it's
'back woods' denistry here.

I'm pretty much done with my parents for about two months and then the house goes on the market so I'll be "on call" for full fledged packing services. The guys I talked to in their area actually are the ones I am most inclined to go with right now mainly because of pricing. I think I am going to do the implants with them and then figure out the crowns once that is done. I'm probably going to start this in about 6 weeks because (funny that I say this right after you make the comment about dems Stone) I refuse to finance my mouth. I've spent too long paying off debts so I'm not reentering that arena. I'm doing this on the Pay-as-you-go plan. I think I get a 3% discount for that

Fenix, wow, sorry about all the dental work!! The pain and finances!
I could only imagine the cost! Even with insurance, dental ins doesn't cover a whole lot. Wow 20K! For a bday present a few months back, I got a cashiers check for the amount I needed to go to the dentist! Mike knew how much it was (I had an estimate) and that was his present! It was the best present I ever got!
Good luck with all of it!
Crow, nope, lived in OK for 3 years, there is nothin down there worth owning
