Well, if all of those whinning, non-voting American Citizens would get off of their cans and go vote the SOBs out of office, it would be a different story.
If you really want someone honest in the White House, don't throw away your vote on the two popular corporate sell-outs Presidential Candidates.

There have been some great ideas here I only wish ebay would at least consider some of them. I find it difficult to understand how some things are chosen to be banished and some are not. I've seen PLENTY of adult related material( in the general sections of ebay) that, as a Mom, I'd rather the kiddies didn't see until they were grown up...but in all fairness I've also see ads thrown into adult by the wise ebay team which had no picture and said things like "1985 Playboy mags 12 issues, good condition, no reserve" Holy Cow that sure might damage some child forever if they stumbled on that one. Makes my ad with the (gasp) scan of the fully clothed Barbara Bach pictured an outrage to view. sorry for the sarcasm...anyway I think a lot of good things have come out of a thread intended to be disruptive..Good Job everyone!

For those that chose to sell adult material, why not just create an adult auction using the adult check system on most adult boards, easy enough. I'm sure some porn mogal would just jump on the chance to make more money off of people's ill ways....go for it and simply go away...

The question is what and how an item is determined to be either adult or general selection material. The example given was a Playboy Magazine that had the last or one of the last interviews with John Lennon.
I don't know where the seller should list this. This is why the search engine should encompass both sections but the magazine could appear under the collectable magazine section and/or John Lennon and it would say "Hidden, Requires Adult Verification" but at least someone interested in John Lennon would search further, whereas if there was a separate search for adult items only, the magazine would not receive the exposure it would in the general search area.

london4- Guidelines differ per community. In town a playboy would be considered adult by nature and what is shown on the subject. Playboy is clearly an adult book...Trust me on that one.

I don't believe anyone, including myself is saying that a Playboy magazine is not an adult item. The point is that there should be a way for these auctions to be searched without offending the sensibilities of some users. Ebay used to be a free trade site where people could sell thier wares for a price...all I'm wanting to see is a level playing field. 99% of my items are not adult in nature, however in the event that I want to sell something that is adult in nature through ebay I ought to be provided with the same service for the money...which right not is not the case.

Whoa, hold the phone!!
First off, it's bad enough some people are paying ALOT for ISP access, DSL, etc., so why punish the users even more by charging $19.95 a month?!
Also, several of these AVS are not exacly high quality firewalls (i.e. they are hackable and easy to break), and not to mention many sites on the net continuously post new passwords to beat the system.
And finally, remember...many people on the internet never use their CC's online?
Thanks, but I'd rather give my right testicle than pay for the access.

I don't go to the adult site on ebay and I certainly don't want my children there nor do I want to see adult auctions described in the general auctions.
However, if ebay is going to take money from sellers of adult items to list them, then these sellers are entitled to either their own search engine in the adult section or entitled to list them in whatever category they choose from the current categories as long as the title comes up "Hidden, Adult..."
It's not fair to charge people and then give them less for their money than other sellers are getting.

The Adult Check service charges $19.95 per year, but you can get a SexKey password for free!
Neither of which will solve the problem of what you should or shouldn't be viewing.
There's enough free porn available that you don't need either of these services to get access to it. And if you're worried about what your kids might see, supervise them.
I thought by now that most people were beyond the fear of using their credit cards on-line. Eighty per-cent of my auctions are paid that way, and if the trend continues, it may become the only way I let them pay.

I used to have the time to help out with emotionally-unstable problem kids. I recall one 10 year old girl who wanted aspired to becoming a protitute when she grew up.
I learned that the reason why was not that she came from a broken home, her mom was not a prostitute, nor had she been sexually abused. The reason why the little girl wanted to become a protitute so badly was because her favorite movie was Pretty Woman and that was how she figured she would find love when she was grown up.
It wasn't an overnight thing. She hung onto this idea for dear life, having seen and understanding that in Pretty Woman, Julia Roberts was being paid to have sex. Her mother and relatives all refused to discuss sex with the children. Usually, it was when a girl would start bleeding (menstruating) suddenly while in class that the horrified girl would learn about sex. Of course, she wasn't allowed to watch movies like "The Nightmare Before Christmas" because her mom didn't want her to have nightmares about Christmas.
You see, while kids are usually smart enough to mention what the y see and do not understand to some adult, you have to realize the number of kids out there whose parents are too religious and stupid to "supervise" them. It took many months of work with this little girl to make her understand that being paid for sex was not the way to happiness and love (not that her mom bothered to help).
My point is, is that without real adult supervision, kids really are influenced by what they see on TV, movies, magazines and so forth and you just can not depend upon parents anymore (if you ever could) to keep kids on the way to stable adulthood.
BTW: Pretty Woman origionally had a different ending to the film. It was origionally shot with Richard Gearheart giving Julia Roberts a drive back to that street corner he found her at and dumped her. Someone thought that the ending, while quite real and had a good point to it, wasn't as marketable as a fake, happy ending.

Ok, I have to ask. Why does everything disgusting, vile and vulgar get labeled "adult material", "adult language" or "for mature audiences". It all seems kind of juvenile to me! Shouldn’t adults know better?
If these things are adult then I must be one of the kids.

Because the goverment has "forced" the media, whether print or electronic, to insitute seperate ratings for each other.
You got the MPAA with their G to NC17, the RIAA with their PA (Parental Advisory) system, the EACC with their K to M system, and the Playboys, Hustlers, and other print media "Not to be sold to minors" and other derivitive phrases system.
And when either one of these folks screws up royally, the big bad goverment comes in and scolds them...and imposes threats to censor these folk. And as recent events suggest, we're one step closer to having other people decide what you can watch and read.
And, ya know these actions only get instituted when a major event happens or it's an election year.

Porn dealers have a nasty habit (among others) of pointing to the gray areas as representative of the whole. In other words, if recent Playboy magazines aren't porn, then there is no such thing as porn. That is blatant obfustication. Of course there is such a thing as porn. And Playboy magazines, or religious art, are hardly representative of the items available in the adult categories.
