Donny: I don't know if you are referring to my post on bid shielding but bid shielding is almost as common as shilling with certain highly specialized category items, and ebay has explicit rules that forbid bid shielding. It is a tactic that I know certain bidders use quite frequently and with great effect - of course I won't say how I happen to know that

sbruce--I was refering to the early bidding posts.
Bid shielding is when a user bids on an item using a very high max. Then, the user registers a second ID to bid on the same item. This way, the the 1st and 2nd bidder are the same person and the high bid is whatever the 2nd ID places as their max bid, which, if high enough, scares off other bidders.
THEN, just before the end of the auction, the user retracts the ultra high bid and ends up getting the item at one bid increment above the 3rd highest bid. The bid was shielded
That's what shielding is---not simply setting a high max as you seem to think.

I am when you have the same person using two ids to post to the same topic.
Of course the topic is again something else and sellers wonder why bidding is down.
Ain't Life Grand...
