Linda, you are probably right when you doubted my ability to ignore. I did qualify my statement by saying that I would "try". I said to carolinetyler, In deference to your self professed *genius* I will try to ignore your efforts to communicate here.
Since caroline has revealed her genius IQ, the following statement is so precious.
Caroline said, "Dbl - you're absolutely right! I sure did mean to put Fiction, rather than non-fiction - I meant the not-true stories! I always have to remember they are opposite Non-fiction=true - Fiction=not true. I don't know why I can't just remember it offhand! And I'm an avid reader."
Yes, Caroline...Non fiction=true and Fiction=not true.

peepa, you continue on showing your ignorance to all who bother to read your posts.
Further proof of that is when you make totally stupid statements like this one:
Tax breaks to the rich is nothing but WELFARE to the people that least need it.
I'll try and keep it very simple for you...
We had a surplus....ask yourself WHY. Partly it's because clinton had RAISED our taxes and partly because we had a tech boom going on which provided extra, un-anticipated funds. The surplus came about because people paid more taxes to our government than were needed to run our government/to meet our budget requirements.
The dems wanted to use that money for all sorts of socialistic programs.
The republicans wanted to RETURN the money to those who had OVERPAID.
TRY....just TRY to think for once. If a clerk at a store, say like Cosco, realized that you had given her too much money....your bill wasn't that much, should she then turn around and tell you she was handing the difference out to all who were there, rather than giving it back to you....the person who gave her the money in the first place? Or should she get to decided there is someone in the store at the time that NEEDED this money more than you...and then give it to them? NO, NO NO!!!! That's not the way our system works.
And thank heaven for President Bush...that he felt those who'd earned that money, overpaid that money, should have it given back to them.
And, imo, this simple example should point out to you how others feel about being overtaxed. And how many of us on the right don't like the democratic way of income redistribution. You're always so willing to give everything to everyone - no questions asked, in order to increase your political power. Give from your own heart....give from your own political fund raisers....don't demand/expect all American's to agree with your socialist positions.

lol...yes, helen you did say 'try'...and I made note of that on my post.
Does it make you feel better, more superior to put someone else down? Why does it bother you that when a statement is made about a poster...that poster decides to show the statement as false? You mentioned her sharing her education and IQ....so what? Why would that kind of thing bother you when you have done exactly the same thing here many times.
You are being petty on your last sentence, imo. We're all human....strengths in some areas....and little weaknesses in others - like having trouble remembering something. It's called being human....and not trying to pretend to be so superior we [you] NEVER made mistakes ourselves [or that you don't].
False again linda. I have never mentioned my education or IQ here. I have only mentioned that I majored in Psychology which led you to believe that I am a Psychologist.

No, not false, helen.
In this situation it appears to me the only reason she even brought up her education and IQ was to prove the 'assumption' about her intelligence was incorrect.
That has never been brought up to you, that I can recall anyway. But YOU have brought up, bragged, about your daughters and their superior education, which universities they attended and the important nature of their careers.
That's what I meant.
You're criticizing Caroline for doing exactly what you've done. Only she had good reason to do so.
And again, helen, I DO give you three cheers that you could 'bend' just a little and admit you might not be able to hold back - but that you would TRY.
I look forward to a good debate between you and Caroline, sometime in the future.....one where you can defend your positions WITHOUT having to lower yourself to petty name calling/etc..
or run away and just not answer her questions.

And just to clear up another misconception you have of me helen.....[you're assuming once again]...I NEVER even thought any such thing, let alone said it. I did, however, mention/discuss the possibility of you being a liberal teacher...in a grade school situation I believe.
I have only mentioned that I majored in Psychology which led you to believe that I am a Psychologist.
Nothing ever led me to believe that....helen, I don't even remember you even making that statement. I do however remember you speaking of being or wanting to be an Art student...majoring/minoring in Art.
I would NEVER have viewed you as a Psychologist....not in my wildest imagination.....but it's funny to think about. YOU, our helen, a psychologist? Nope....worst field you could have chosen.....and I can see from your postings over the years...it's better it didn't come to pass.
posted on October 2, 2005 10:18:18 AM new
You don't plan to, huh? LOL TOO LATE....you already have.
And it appears to me that with Caroline being an open, sharing person - something so difficult for you to do - that yes, she can 'fight' her own battles. I don't feel like I'm 'fighting' for her....but rather expressing my own opinions on the subject.
And IMO the green-eyed monster of jealousy has overtaken you on this one helen.

Linda, the majority of people who graduate with a psychology degree never use as it is one the most easiest of paths to complete.
Unless they go on to get thier Doctorate, it doesn't really mean anything other than they spent 4 years at a higher learning insitution.

Bear- I have paid taxes each and every single year since I was 15 years old. I was on unemployment for less than 1 year one time, and while I was looking for a job I also decided to begin my own business, which is quite succesful. So your image of liberals is a bit shot on me. I am willing to pay more taxes, provided the need is there, and it is for the better of America. You on the other hand want all the freebies you can get. You don't want to pay jack sh!t, but are the first to complain about a hole in the road, or the crime rate, or how much your hunting license costs. You are weak on corporate tax breaks, when they make record profits at the hand of shipping jobs overseas, yet when someone needs assistance, you chastise them, with the exception of yourself of course.
I have worked in Social Services for several years, and I have seen first hand, up close and personal what most public assistant people do. Most want to work, and are willing to do anything to find a job. Your shallow bigoted opinion that they just sit around and do nothing is the typical kool aid you neocons love to drink. You also manage to forget that there are tons of Republicans out there on welfare as well. You know the stereotype... Rednecks sitting on their front porches drinking tall boys, listening to the latest Metallica cd that they bought with their public assistance, waiting with a shotgun across their lap for a possum to cross the front lawn of their doublewide while their barefoot wives are inside cooking up the latest batch of Meth. I'm sure you are related to a few yourself, or at least live near a few. Come on now, you know the stereotypes.
You are so quick to give an opinion based on stereotypes, yet you are also quick to get that free handout yourself whether it comes at the beginning or at the end via taxes, rebates, welfare, etc... you are there asking for "your" money. So, for you to assume welfare recipients want a free handout and for you to accept a freebie yourself, makes you nothing more than a hypocrite. Typical neocon swine.

Dumbo, only when and if you ever pay more into to Social Security than I, can you speak intelligently on who deserves what.

"only when and if you ever pay more into to Social Security than I, can you speak intelligently on who deserves what."
That has to be the most uneducated response I have ever heard. Talk about a shallow argument. I really shouldn't expect any more from you though. Years of stupidity rears its ugly head once again.
The truth hurts doesn't it Bear? You can't handle the fact that you are seeking assistance to offset the costs that burden you, and you can't handle the fact that you are no better than anyone else who has to do the same thing.

Thank you Ron for noting that fact. I was/am aware of their educational requirements and years of necessary training, before they can practice, from working with them in a hospital situation.

Most of the time a Bachelors in Psychology leads to a job in education or intermediate Social Work, or even better, in a call center for a Credit Card company. A few will get into the FBI, but Ron is right about psychology degrees, and for that matter just about any Bachelors degree. Bachelors are pretty much the equivelant of a High School Diploma in the 50's. You will rarely find someone jump into a middle level job with a Bachelor's. You need a Master's or put in several years being a grunt. Of course, it all depends on how you look at your job. Some people think they are in the big time because they are in a Management Trainee's program, while others think of it as nothing more than a stepping stone. I remember in the mid 90's everyone wanting a degree in Computer Science. Stories of people getting 60K right out of college as a programmer or web designer. Now the market is flooded with them and not enough jobs now that everybody already has a website.

That's exactly right, Rusty. An undergraduate degree rarely insures a top notch job in any field. Most teachers in our area have at least a Masters degree and quite a few have Phd's.
Personally I don't think that employment should be the primary goal of undergraduate education.

I remember the agency I worked for was hiring a Program Coordinator right after 9/11. Generally, this position is held for a Bachelor's degree with 2-3 years program work as an assistant. Program Directors usually get in with a Master's and some program work as well. Anyhow, what would have normally been 20 resumes received became 250 in just a few days. We had applicants from everywhere. People who never worked a day in Social Services were applying, and with Master's and even a few Doctorates for a $24-26K job! Sign of the times... Americans lose jobs to overseas low paid workers, and then struggle to find jobs in their own sectors. They flood other fields with resumes, looking for anything, while collecting unemployment, some are even on public assistance to support their family. They are Democrats, Republicans, Independents, or could care less about politics. Ask them if they sat around doing nothing. But we have the neocons proclaiming public assistance is wrong. They don't want to admit that they need help, and are more than willing to seek it out any way they can.

Maybe it's just me, but I think that most degrees (teaching, medical, and law excepted) are a waste. When I worked in printing - out most useless clients were ones that came in with their brilliant design and bragging of their degree. They knew NOTHING about practical application. Today when I talk to people in the industry, they have the same complaint, design students don't know the different between CMYK and RGB, and think that 96DPI is high resolution.
As for business. I never went beyond high school but at 30 I was running a division of a billion dollar company (my division was only a million or so of that) and I started out there as a designer.
I did have an intern once that had a college degree. She iritated the hell out of me and seemed that all of her actions were completely devoid of common sense. She could write a business letter but ask her to apply simple logic to the solution of a problem and she looked like a deer in headlights.
I'll take someone with real world experience and a passion for the field anyday over someone with a degree.

Linda_K, Tax breaks to the rich is nothing but Government WELFARE. WELFARE to the people that need it the least. People that make up the republican CON-SERVATIVE BASE.
The same CON-SERVATIVE base that is now waging a CLASS WAR against the vast majority of Americans including America's middle and working class.
The same CON-SERVATIVE BASE that is now using their FREE WELFARE money to further their Class WAR by using it to get more NEOCON CON-SERVATIVES elected in the 2006 elections.
In you own words you said "The dems wanted to use that money for all sorts of socialistic programs." I am talking about a surplus of money a Democrat President gave American and the Bush administration. Bush turned around and gave a lot of that surplus money in WELFARE programs to the riches Americans.
Only NEOCONS CON-SERVATIVES like your bunch would give a lot of that surplus money (paid by all Americans) to the riches 1% of Americans. Only NEOCON CON-SERVATIVES like your bunch would take a surplus and turn it into the BIGGEST NATIONAL DEBT AMERICA HAS EVER HAD.
Did you know that the 13 riches American families have more money between them than 20 million of the poorest American families do.
Linda_K when are you ever going to realize your NEOCON words like "socialistic" don't fly any longer. Yes, Linda_K the vast majority of Americans now know the only "socialistic" programs in America they see are going to people that least need them.
SO FAR I HAVE NOT HEARD ONE CON-SERVATIVE LAW MAKER SAY TAX BREAKS TO THE RICH SHOULD BE CUT BACK TO HELP PAY OF HURRICANE DAMAGE.

Keep rattling on Dumbo, in another 15 or 20 years you might know enough to speak in a knowledgeable manner.
And since when is seeking reimbursement for expenses considered welfare? As I stated previously, (which apparently you failed to comprehend if you did read it), were I on welfare, I would have demanded the fuel be DELIVERED at NO EXPENSE to me.

Maybe it was the FBI or CIA report I read.
If the Rustytrombone is out of high school, I'd be greatly surprised. I do think we should find just where he lives and proposition the government for more school funds.

Sheepa, I gather from your inane post that each year you don't bother to file your IRS taxes to get a refund? Do you shop for groceries & use coupons?
Well I guess if you do, that qualities you as a welfare recipient too.
