With pen and paper a person can easily estimate that Bidville earns approximately $80,000 per year
How can you lie like that bids? lol
Ok any new ioffer stats?

I'm dead serious about the $80K. The six daily featured sellers on the homepage let's a mathmatically inclined person guestimate both the number of sellers and the number of sellers with premium monthly mememberships. Bryan isn't stupid and definetely isn't benelovent and is in it for the money, scant as it may be.

Ok, so how many sellers do you think there is? When I was working on the topic at the moo, which they are still drooling over 30 featured sellers had over 200,000 listings. If you remove the book sellers 100,000 auctions you are down to about a million listings. 30 sellers had 20% of the total listings.

The six featured daily seller must have 50+ listings to qualify. That means many sellers do not make those lists. The daily featured sellers can not repeat in a 30 day period. The repeat rate is about twice a year on average. That's 180 sellers per month that are featured and 2160 per year. Even if every seller was featured twice a year that over 1,000 different sellers right there. Many sellers are not featured at all or only once a year even though they qualify.
I estimate the number of sellers with 50+ listings at BV at least 1,500 and that is $15,000 in minimum fees right there. There may be another 1,000 sellers that are sub 50 listers and that's another $10,000. The percentge of featured sellers with a membership is about 20% and that about $75 per year more. On the whole of all BV sellers may be at the same 20% rate of memberships. That's 500 sellers averaging $75 in premium memberships = $37,500 . Add the $25,000 from the non-membership users and you get $62,500 . That must be a low figure as with 1,000,000 listings ( throwing out the mega book seller ) and 2,500 sellers that's 400 listing per seller. My $80,000 estimate is certainly plausible.

Why else would Bryan keep the site open? It's never going to be any larger than it is now. The money from verification and premium memberships has got to be the reason. I doubt that it would take more then a few hours per day to run the site and Bryan could also have a regular job. I wonder how much epier or SYI make? I think BV is a successful small-scale internet enterprise.

It costs very little to keep the site going. To say bidville makes $80,000 a year is the same as saying yahoo makes 80 million a year. The purpose of the large thread at the moo was to determine how many featured sellers there are, the bidrate on non-take it listings, and how many auctions they listed. From my research there are between 500 to 600 sellers on bidville. Anyone can count the featured sellers daily and the amount of items listed. Most 3rd tier auctions are hobby sites.

There's got to be more than 500 or 600 sellers. I tracked them for 18 months and there are a LOT of sellers. A computer 'random number generator' is notorious for NOT being very random and some sellers appear every 3 months and some never show up on the list.
It is a testament to the stability of the site that BV can get that many sellers to pony up $10/year to merely list there. That is an inexpensive web store and I'm sure most use it expressly for that and not actually selling on the site.
Those sellers sure hang in there! Go Bidville!

Is there any advertising in the works? Small newspaper ads would be the cheapest. Of course the more listings they have the better. You cant attract bidders unless the sellers are there with a healthy inventory.

None of the upstarts hardly ever advertise or could afford it. The small ads aren't worth it to me. If they could get a press grabbing auction that would be a great form of free advertising. The current Elvis tooth auction would be great on ioffer for instance. What a coup it'd be to get a great celebrity auction on ioffer and read the press reports.

Hey I nearly doubled the video section of Ioffer.
To me as a seller the biggest angle was that I would have this store with a bulk loader that was indexed to froogle.
Unfortunatley Mr. Grabber has not grabbed me and didn't grab my prices which is leading to emails from many people with ridiculous offers.
I am actually getting almost an email per day but not one serious offer.
If my prices had been "grabbed" as well it would be much better.
At least the customer would have an idea of what I wanted for the video.
Maybe they'll figure it out. In the meantime I'm setting up my own store/website that I can get indexed to froogle which I believe is going to be the big thing this year.

Selling 10 $6 items a week. Why are you still selling. Give it up, find something else to do. You think it's going to get better for you tomiii. I guess that's why you are so bitter, you can't possibly be surviving on that paltry sum. If I was ioffer I'd either update the numbers ( which use to be updated at least daily ) or delete the counts all together or at least explain somewhere why the numbers haven't been updated in well over a month. Site users appreciate honesty.

The ultimate deciding factor of the relative value of a site is the number and dollar amount of the sales on that site. Nothing else really matters that much.
With that said I will cease all mention of the ioffer site on this board.

I've had some high value sales how about you? I know, I'm on your ignore list. When you can't answer or better yet when you are embarressed of your answer you conveniently decide not to answer. I'm just reporting that a possible red flag has appeared in the form of unexplained updates of the listing numbers.
I was really enjoying the reporting of the steady rise in the ioffer listings numbers. It gave hope for the site to see a baramoter such as listings steadily increase. I'm no longer full of hope but instead I have a feelings of serious doubt about the site.

This is a forum for other online auctions. I've looked at these boards for months and see the same group of 5 or 6 people slamming any site mentioned here. One day I asked myself who are these self righteous experts, AuctionDunce, blairwitch, and you tomwiii and a couple other no nothing dingbats. You cannot be happy with ebay, although they are making more money than ever, I am quite certain that all of you are making less and less. If you do not support another site you will eventually be forced out of your blessed ebay by the corporate sellers invading ebay, I know I did. Ebay has a double standard when it comes to the corporate sellers, I sell computer networking equipment and they give special breaks to Sun and IBM, so much for "the level playing field". I know the majority of other sites out there suck and suck beyond belief. Do you know how bad ebay sucked when they first started. It was one page in from a site about ebola virus. You think sales were so great there? Ebay was a free site for 13 months and only brought in $1000 in final value fees it's first month of charging. But they grew and got better but ebay changed 3 or 4 years ago and became this corporate money hungry, don't give a sh*t about service 'cause we're raking in the cash pack of thieves. They've become a monopoly and a monopoly is only good for the monopoly. You know why Microsoft products suck so bad it's because they are a monopoly and don't need to improve. I don't support any monopoly including ebay. I'm a man of my words and have chosen to support an alternative. What are you tomwiii??? Why have I decided to come down on you and your band of naysayers? It's people like you that make a monopoly possible. You free admit you are a casual seller than your are the one most able to support an alternative instead of bashing it. The huge volume seller is the one that can least afford not to support an alternative. Instead of support you choose to bash. I bash, but I asked questions also. Take a stand tomwiii, why defend status quo, does it need defending. Choose a smaller site and support it, the one you think might have a chance. If you don't support another site you will lose in the end, you probably already have.

BW, have you tried an ebay store yet? It's only $9.95 per month and a nickle per listing per month. That works out to $19.95 for 200 listings per month. ( first month store fee is free )
The drawback is that it is a pain to search the stores if you're not use to it. There are six million store items and I can imagine that ebay doesn't want it to be too easy to search the stores for fear of losing out on the hefty listing fees in the regular auctions.
