'he now says he knows nothing about a book or myself..'
Under his current and present personality but watch out when his other personality emerges and suddenly remembers that he dropped off the book at your house. Who knows how many split-personalities he may have.
You should have at least made a copy of his book, to look into rewritting later on.

He hasn't committed a crime by leaving the book for you to read. So, I wonder what right the sheriff has to confiscate the guy's book. Didn't he mention the book to you when you spoke to him previously.

I agree that the sheriff has no right to confiscate his book. I think that you may want to consider getting it back from the sheriff or at least to get the sheriff to get it to him.
In the other thread you were impressed with his intelligence and knowledge of history. I think that I would be very concerned about his book if I were in your position. It's probably the only thing that he has of value and now it's in the hands of a Mississippi sheriff. That is the only troublesome part of this story in my opinion.

Actually I had requested the Sheriff return the book to him when he went to pay him a visit. It was a copy not original. In his writings he wrote he had sent 22 I believe that was the number of copies to various individuals, none thought him credible..he even mentioned that he sent one to Morie Povich (spelling) and it was returned to him.. someone else told him that he had used already published documents. So I am not the first person he has sent a copy to. I was surprised that the sheriff said he was going to keep the book and read it himself, he knew all the people who were mentioned as crooks etc.. and he said he could use the documents to contact family members if they still existed and the VA hospital.

Heck, now I want to read his book and who knows maybe I can come up with a good story to put together, using his writtings to make his book something that a Publisher would want to print and distribute.

Dang guys..you're making me feel like dog doo doo.. I thought I did the right thing..now I don't know..
Maybe I could send him some money anonymously?
Edited to add...his theory was that G. Gordon Liddy was responsible for the Kennedy assignation... and M.Monroe was going to tell the truth that she was paid and forced to say she was having an affair with J.Kennedy.
Seriously though it was all ramblings from a very confused mind.

In my opinion, it's a minor mistake that could still be corrected. As far as talking to the sheriff goes, I see absolutely nothing wrong with being cautious and now that your encounter with this man has been documented with a police report, if he were to commit a crime or atempt to commit a crime against you or if you had to use force to defend yourself then the police would already have some basic information about the guy. Plus the fact that you can inform the man that you talked to the police and why, should have some bearing on his attitude towards you.

Well.. I'm going to hell. That was probably my test sent from God to see how charitable I am, and I blew it big time.. I'm going to hell now for sure..

Alright Bebo, i'll quit harping on it. It's a done deal and probably nothing could really be done to help this poor, crazy, person.

I love that stuff, a little more spicy than Tobasco sauce.

Thank you Helen. I hope so.. I was thinking about sending him a basket of food and some money, but what if he thinks it's poisoned or such and contacts the Sheriff.. then they will come after me for stalking.. I guess I'd just better let it rest.

Me, diplomatic? Nah, I'm still on a high from the fantastic gun show sales this last weekend.
Though a guy who once worked for me gave told me I could be very tactful when I wanted to be and gave me a plaque that read:
Tact..The ability to tell a man to go to hell and have him be happy to be on his way.
This was after hearing me tell a customer in Detroit "I don't like dealing with you Yankee Bassards" after the customer called me a "redneck Texas SOB".

Bear, you ever do shows outside of La Republica de Tejas? I go to them now and again.

Prof, Sorry, Tejas only.
The products I sell can be sold anywhere in the US (reloading components & collectible ammo) but BATF rules restrict an FFL holder to sales in his home state or a state where he has a brick & mortar store. The fellow I assist works from his home & has no plans to expand out of state.
Pi,
Terrible situation. US Repeating Arms was producing firearms under license from Olin/Winchester. Since they are closing that plant, many of the employees are attempting to purchase the plant & continue production.
Until that happens the Model 70's, 94's, 9422 & I believe the 1220/1300's will no longer be in production.
All the other models will be manufactured in either Belgium, Brazil or Japan.
Olin owns the Winchester name & I think they still controls the manufacturing of Winchester ammo.

I know a an old man about like what you have been talking about. He hangs out at a McDonald's the only difference is he lives with someone who has a guardianship over him so they basically get his Vet's check. That is what this guy needs and maybe by doing what you did you will get him the help he needs. I wouldn't think he would really try to harm you. Most mentally ill people will turn on the ones they love but not other people. My Mom was like that, she would try to kill me or my father but wouldn't try to harm anyone else. You were probably the first person who had even treated this man like a human in a long time. You wouldn't believe the rejection my Mother went through from just neighbors in the many places we lived when I was a child. I had a friends Mother tell me if she had known my Mother was mentally ill she would not have let her daughter be friends with me as a child. I told her that wished she would have known it,I'd be better off today.
