And lastly "They said he was unsteady and had red eyes."

Aha, well there you have it then, that's why they let him go. Kennedy's always look that way.

Read the last paragraph of this article.

It appears to me that patrick IS admitting to alcohol problems too.

But...with the way their quotes are posted...I can't be sure.

The next step for Kennedy, he said, is, “I’ve got to do total abstinence, period. From now on, obviously, I’m a very public face with addiction and alcoholism written on my head.”

Also wanted to mention that THIS accident wasn't kennedy's first either. [b]Within the past THREE WEEKS he had another one where he was driving [to a pharmacy lol] and turned in front of on coming traffic. tsk tsk tsk....so he's got a 'past' record for being under the 'influence'.

edited to add: [from libertypost.com]

Kennedy, who has battled booze and drug problems in the past, said in his first statement: "I will fully cooperate with the Capitol Police in whatever investigation they choose to undertake."

Despite the wreck, Kennedy took part in normal business at the Capitol yesterday and appeared unshaken by the incident as he chatted with other members. But one Rhode Island political insider said there has been talk of Kennedy's bizarre behavior of late.

"He has looked terrible lately," the source said. "He's been acting goofy, kind of zany."

In addition to seeking substance abuse treatment as a teen, Kennedy has acknowledged being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

The Kennedy clan has a lot of clouts in Boston.
No one mention his mother Joan Kennedy who has more than her fair share of traffic tickets !
And dad will get his sons and nephews to go drinking with him after midnite .
I used to think there is a Kennedy curse for old man Kennedy selling contrabands during WWII,but no,it is just a family tradition.
Remember John Kennedy junior,he was never a good student and should have never passed the flying test and be a pilot!

I see ye gottem yer "facts" from the "Swift-Boat Encylcopedia of BS?"

"I used to think there is a Kennedy curse for old man Kennedy selling contrabands during WWII,but no..."

Methinks ye have OLD MAN JOE confused with DUMBO'S GRAND-DAD (Ole Prescott, who sold ARMS TO THE NAZIS WHILE AMERICAN BOYS WERE BLEEDING IN ITALY) -- (old-man Kennedy=) Joe Kennedy SR was a BOOTLEGGER during PROHIBITION

"Remember John Kennedy junior (???),he was never a good student and should have never passed the flying test and be a pilot!"

Methinks ye mean: Joseph P. Kennedy, JR who died in WARTIME SERVICE TO HIS COUNTRY!

BTW: he was as good a student as ole C-MINUS DUMBO the GREAT AVIATOR of the TEXAS BROWNIES!

GRAND-PAPPY PRESCOTT BUSH~WHAT A PATRIOT:

"In their book, Tarpley and Chaitkin explain that in this way a significant part of the Bush family's financial base is related to supporting and aiding Adolph Hitler. Therefore, the current U.S. president, just like his father (former CIA director, vice president and president) reached the peak of the U.S. political hierarchy thanks to his great-grandfather and grandfather and generally his entire family, who financially aided and encouraged the Nazis.

Some time later, in October 1942, the U.S. authorities confiscated Nazi bank funds from the New York UBC, whose then president was Prescott. The firm was condemned as a financial and commercial collaborator with the enemy and all its assets were seized.

Later, the U.S. government also ordered the seizure of the assets of a further two leading financial agencies directed by Prescott through the accounts of the Harriman banking institution: the Holland-America Trading Corporation (a U.S.-Dutch commercial firm) and the Seamless Steel Equipment Corporation.

Then on November 11, 1942, an embargo was imposed on the Silesian-American Corporation - another firm headed by Bush and Walker - under the same Trading with the Enemy Act.

However, in 1951, the embargo was lifted and the enterprising businessman recovered some $1.5 million USD, earmarked for new investments largely to swell the Bush family's patrimony.

To this should be added a resumé of files belonging to Dutch and U.S. information services confirming the direct links between Prescott Bush, the German Thyssen family and the blood money of a group of rich U.S. families from the Second World War.

Tarpley and Chaitkin affirm that the great financial crash of 1929-1931 affected the United States, Germany and Britain, weakening their respective governments. At the same time, Prescott Bush became even more diligent, still more desirous of doing everything that was necessary to safeguard his place in the world. It was during this crisis that some members of the Anglo-U.S wealthy class supported the installation of Hitler's regime in Germany.

To sum up, the authors categorically state that the Bush family's fortune arose as a result of its unconditional support for Adolph Hitler's political project.

The UBC, under Prescott Bush's direction and with the long-term cooperation of Fritz Thyssen's German Steel Trust participated in the emergence, preparation and financing of the Nazi war machine through the manufacture of armored vehicles, fighter planes, guns and explosives."

You're RIGHT & I'm wrong -- in my mind, his name forever will be: "John-John" -- I'd completely forgotten that his name was: John F. Kennedy,Jr

I thought you were talking about JFK's older brother, a WWII aviator MIA over the ENGLISH CHANNEL...

My bad...

Bear - where do have the officers said they smelled alcohol? That is where my question about the alcohol stemmed from initially.

Louis P. Cannon, president of the Washington chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police, who was not at the traffic stop, said the officers who responded to the accident were instructed by an official "above the rank of patrolman" to take Kennedy home and no sobriety tests were conducted at the scene. Cannon also said he heard from officers that Kennedy had smelled of alcohol, adding that based on the other visual signs the congressman showed, officers could have followed up with the sobriety tests.

The reporting officer checked off a box indicating that Kennedy was under the influence of alcohol and that the politician's ability was "impaired."

I thought you were talking about JFK's older brother, a WWII aviator MIA over the ENGLISH CHANNEL...

Wrong, Joe Jr was not MIA over the channel.. He was piloting a B-24 bomber packed with about 20000 lbs of explosives (not bombs) loaded in it. It had experimental remote controls installed in it that enabled the operator in another bomber near it to take flight control of the 1st bomber & fly it into a ground target.

The pilot & co pilot were to bail out after transfering control to the 2nd bomber. Joe Jr, had his co-pilot bail out as planned, then he flipped a switch to transfer flight control to the 2nd bomber & his B-24 exploded in mid air.

The pilots that volunteered for testing of these system were given credit for 25 flights thus enabling them eligible for an early rotation off flight status & sent back to the states.
