Prodi: War in Iraq Was 'Grave' Mistake
Thursday, May 18, 2006 8:26 AM EDT
The Associated Press
ROME (AP) — Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi said Thursday the war in Iraq was a "grave" mistake, but said Italy would remain on the front lines in the war against terror.
"We consider the war and occupation in Iraq a grave error that hasn't solved — but has complicated — the problem of security," Prodi said in his first address to the Senate as prime minister. "Terrorism has found a new base and new excuses for internal and external terrorist action

kiara is so stupid as to think that while she just 'happened' to check in on vendio at 12:30 AM HER time...just to make a couple of posts.....
.....that I wasn't doing exactly the same thing.
No....in her twisted mind she was just 'checking in' while I was 'sneaking in'.
LOL what a total FOOL she is...and she certainly isn't fooling me.
As I said...no matter when I post....no matter the time....she's right there looking for a fight.
She feeds on them.....needs them....continues to seek them out. HER PROBLEM.

Like hell. It shows the soldiers in Iraq are safer that California citizens.
Bear, to always compare the loss of lives of men and women sent into a war zone with homicides in California from 3 years ago diminishes everything that the troops stand for.
As if you know what its like to place your life on the line for your country. If you weren't so hypocritical it would be laughable.
American soldiers KNOW the risks associated with military service, they have no guarantees of returning home alive or uninjured.

I agree, Bear.
And those deaths in CA brought NOTHING positive ....
While the war has freed 25 million Iraqi's. They're forming their OWN government....learning to protect and fight for themselves...and take great pride in being able to vote FREELY. [so proud of those purple fingers]
But the pacifists, anti-war and anti-Bush will NEVER understand that.
But it doesn't matter. Congress just again agreed to continue the war in Iraq by approving more funding.
And this President fully intends to see it through until Jan. 2009. Thank God.

Absolutely true, namely because ALL the soldiers in Iraq are armed.
Percentage?
How about this for percentages:
In her New York Sun column, Alicia Colon cites some interesting figures about Iraq, offered by Rep. Steve King of Iowa:
According to Mr. King, the violent death rate in Iraq is 25.71 per 100,000. That may sound high, but not when you compare it to places like Colombia (61.7), South Africa (49.6), Jamaica (32.4), and Venezuela (31.6). How about the violent death rates in American cities? New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina was 53.1. FBI statistics for 2004-05 have Washington at 45.9, Baltimore at 37.7, and Atlanta at 34.9.
The point Mr.King was making is that if journalists covered only the violence in these other cities and countries, as they do in Iraq, our perceptions of these places would also be highly negative.

YOU were the one that put my name here more than once with some BS about my beliefs so I requested proof that you back up your statements. I realize a coward like you would consider that a 'fight' but it was a simple and reasonable request on my part.
How embarrassing for you as it's obvious you have no links because once again you lied. So claim harassment....... whatever it takes to plump up your chicken feathers.

NYTimes: In Baghdad, a family loses all 4 of its men
The Lazim family lost all four of its men this week. They were getting out of a pickup truck at a house they were building shortly after 7:30 a.m. Wednesday when a man walked up to them and sprayed them with bullets.
"This is a historic day for Iraq and all its people," deputy parliament speaker Khalid al-Attiyah said in a nationally televised news conference before the session began. "This government represents all Iraqis."
WONDERFUL!! IRAQ HAS THEIR GOVERNMENT TODAY. ITS TIME WE REMOVE ALL AMERICAN TROOPS TOMORROW.

Ya, it's too bad Bigpeepa, that these neocns in here value the lives of the troops so lightly. They have no ability to use logic that says the troops have no choice to be in Iraq, they're in there based on a lie. To brush their sacrifice off with burblings of "well, duh, people die everywhere" shops there total lack of appreciation for what these brave men and WOMEN are doing for them.
One dope even says, ""According to Mr. King, the violent death rate in Iraq is 25.71 per 100,000. That may sound high, but not when you compare it to places like Colombia (61.7), South Africa (49.6), Jamaica (32.4), and Venezuela (31.6). How about the violent death rates in American cities? So dope, why don't we send troops to THESE places????????????
I even heard a neocon insulting the very troops that are dying for them....
The neocons say the Liberals and Democrats aren't supporting the troops and they proceed to minimize their deaths and sacrifices...how anti-troops, Anti-American can they get?
What are they going to do next ...poke fun at the wounded in their wheel chairs ????
At this point in the Iraq War and how its been and being managed by Bush & Rummy. If any American still supports the Iraq War or Bush and Rummy that person is BOTH ANTI TROOPS AND ANTI AMERICAN.
I get the biggest laugh when the old worn out neocon sayings come out. Sayings like "we freed millions","Iraq's good news","liberal press",liberal Bush haters,War on terrorist etc.
Little do these twisted minded people know they have become weak minded and blind from there greed and phony fake Christians ways.
These weak people can't even stand to see the truth about the number of dead and wounded Americans this failed war is producing.
Don't worry mingotree, I will keep doing everything I can to strip power away from these confused troubled people.

Agit, you're really a pig for finding the deaths and maimings of American soldiers so boring.
Bet you wouldn't be quite so bored if YOU were in Iraq.
Please find the mother, father , husband, wife, or child of a soldier who died and tell them how boring you find their loved one's death, I'm sure they'll have the appropriate response.
My response is that you're an un-American, ungrateful slob.

agitprop, needs to read what a man who lost his son says below.
By Paul Garber
JOURNAL REPORTER
Spc. David "J.R." Timmons Jr. was killed on May 5 in Afghanistan with nine of his comrades. His funeral was held at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church.
Hours after he buried his soldier son, David Timmons Sr. said yesterday that people should ask questions about the war efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"I think I need answers," he said. "We ask questions, that's what America's all about."
Army Spc. David "J.R." Timmons Jr., 23, of Lewisville was one of 10 soldiers killed May 5 in a helicopter crash in eastern Afghanistan.
The soldiers were conducting combat operations in a mountainous area as part of a search for al-Qaida and Taliban militants.
The Army is still investigating the crash. Timmons said that Army officials told the family that the helicopter crashed during a sandstorm.
The elder Timmons said that his family supports the troops on the ground and their efforts to carry out the missions given to them.
But Timmons said he feels that it is his duty to ask questions of the leaders who are making the policy decisions.
"As a parent, you want war to be the last thing you do, not the first thing."
He said that the leaders must define the missions and lay out an exit strategy. If the mission changes, the leaders should let the citizens know.
"I think they owe that much to the American people," he said. "We just want to know what's going on."
Although most people direct their questions about the war to President Bush, Timmons said, more answers should come from leaders in Congress.
"It's up to the American people to push the legislative branch to hold them accountable," he said. "You can't go to war without money, and the money comes from the legislative branch."
In his last letter home, J.R. Timmons wrote that he didn't understand why U.S. soldiers were in Afghanistan and said he believed that the people of Afghanistan could take care of themselves, David Timmons said.
The letter arrived after J.R. Timmons was killed. David Timmons said he would have liked a chance to reply to the letter, to tell his son that soldiers shouldn't question their mission and that he was doing an important job to get terrorists and their supporters.
Although he was saddened by the loss of his son, Timmons said he was proud that his son died performing his mission as best as he could.
"He's an American hero," he said. "You can put that with an exclamation point."
J.R. Timmons, a 2001 graduate of West Forsyth High School, entered basic training in January 2004 and was sent to Afghanistan in February 2006 for a planned 18-month tour of duty.
He is one of 234 U.S. soldiers who have died in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, according to statistics from the Defense Department. More than 2,400 U.S. troops have died in Iraq.
J.R. Timmons was buried in Salisbury National Cemetery, where the Army presented several medals to the family, including the Bronze Star.
About 50 motorcyclists with the Patriot Guard escorted the funeral procession from Winston-Salem to Salisbury.
David Timmons said he was grateful for the presence of the flag-bearing riders.
"They reaffirmed my faith that we have a truly great democracy," he said.
At Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, more than 200 people packed the sanctuary during an emotional, sometimes joyful, funeral service that celebrated his life.
The Rev. Donald A. Salley said that J.R. Timmons was in great danger and distress in Afghanistan from suicide bombers and land mines.
"That night his helicopter was caught in that sandstorm, while that helicopter was reeling and swirling, I'm sure the terror of death, the fear of death, overwhelmed his heart," Salley said.
In those moments, the helicopter was "suspended between earth and glory," Salley said.
"He flew away. He took his spiritual wings," Salley said. "In that whirlwind, he went home to be with the Lord."
He no longer has to fear the bombs or the land mines, Salley said.
"Now, J.R., take your rest."
J.R. Timmons is survived by his father; his mother, Cynthia; a sister, Shalanta; and a grandfather, James Timmons.

mingotree, FYI I am not an American. My country (New Zealand) wisely decided not to join in the invasion of Iraq for numerous reasons. Our government and military were wary of the United States military and political ability to fight a concerted war against urban guerrillas and militias, given the USA's track record in Vietnam. Anyway NZ special force units were already fully occupied in Afghanistan and there weren't enough Farsi speakers... but there were numerous Afghani/Chinese/Russian speakers.
The reality is people die senseless deaths on the roads and in wars. We hear all about the "War on Terror" but how about a "War against Cancer" or a "War against Road Deaths"?

Agitprop, war on Cancer?
We don't even have National health insurance here much less a war on Cancer. In the U.S. Forty Five Million Americans have no health insurance. Many of those 45 million do not get proper health care because they don't have enough money.
America is spending about a billion dollars every week or so in Iraq. But we can't find the money for health insurance.
In our home land our current President George DUMBO Bush and lawmakers from his party are waging another war. They are waging a war against their own citizens called the middle and working class American.
One of our cities is still a mess from a flood, our roads and bridges are bad and need repair our borders are wide open with millions of people pouring into our country illegally and the rich are getting richer while the poor and middle class are getting poorer.
I have only one goal in mind that is to help strip the power away from our current government. We can be and have been a much better America. First we must stop the greedy rich and industry from controlling our government and the laws the government makes.
We have a very important election coming up in November 2006. You can believe I am working very hard for a better America for all Americans not just the rich.

I'm glad that Canada never went into Iraq. They've been doing a good job in Afghanistan and are the number one donor there and gaining the respect of the Afghanistan people.
Sadly they lost a female soldier in combat with the Taliban the other day. She was well liked and honored by troops from all nations as her body was loaded on the plane to return home to her husband and family in Canada.
While this happened, lindak was on the other forum calling female soldiers he-men showing more disrespect and disdain for them, not realizing that many are wives and mothers and more feminine than she will ever be. They are dedicated to their professions and have a spirit and courage she will never know.
lindak, I know you are reading this so I'm telling you that you can stop asking others posting over there if they are me because none of them are. DUH!

Whole neighborhoods are lawless, too dangerous for police. Some roads are so bomb-laden that U.S. troops won’t use them. Guerrillas attack U.S. troops nearly every time they venture out — and hit their bases with gunfire...
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) — At least 17 Iraqis were killed in attacks in Iraq on Tuesday, most of them in drive-by shootings in three provinces north of the capital, police said.
The attacks came one day after Iraq's new prime minister, Nouri al-Maliki, and Britain's visiting leader, Tony Blair, announced that Iraqi security forces would start assuming full responsibility for some provinces and cities next month, beginning a process leading to the eventual withdrawal of all coalition forces.
But Tuesday's violence north of Baghdad showed that goal may not be easy to achieve.
