I have been posting here for a few years and thought that I had been contributing to the conversations, debates, topics as well as anyone.
Lately, I have been told by a few that I am a dumbass, lack credibility, and never contribute anything worthwhile.
I have posted my points of view, my opinions, and my take on things. I don't use cut and pastes or other peoples words to deliver my messages. I don't need the media to tell me what I should believe and I have kept an open mind and used my own thought processes to come to my own conclusions. I don't need an Ann or a
Micheal Moore to tell me what I should think.
But apparently this is not acceptable to some here, when we disagree, we are branded dumb or worse.

Anyone that believes that there is anything resembling 'debate' going on here is full of sh!t. What I do see instead is that there is plenty of character assasination going on here.

Pii you can never have debate when one side posts putting the other side immediately on the defensive.

Maggie, some who side with the Bush administration live and die by the philosophy 'You are either with us or you are against us'
Their mantra is C&Ps from their own selective sites and if you form your own opinion with no site that you've copied from, it confuses them because they no longer seem to believe in free thought.
For some there is no middle road where another person can agree with some issues and disagree with others. There is no middle road where a person can be more liberal on some issues and more conservative on others.
If you don't bow down and suck up and go with their doctrine, you are immediately labeled. If you continue to voice your own opinion they feel threatened and they say you lack credibility and if you call them on any lies they've made up about your beliefs, you then lack moral character or are accused of harassment.

Bear, I don't expect any or all to agree with everything I say and I never have. I've always tried to keep an open mind to understand why others believe as they do and I have asked questions so as to better understand them, especially when I hear the blanket hate speech about certain groups.
If I am labeled wrongly by someone and then called anti-American because I spoke out about the war in Iraq I'm not about to ingratiate myself by bending to them and accepting it by remaining silent for fear I may not meet their approval.
edited to add that the ones calling Maggie names and telling her she lacks credibility have never seemed to want to participate in an active dialogue with her to begin with, whenever she posts her opinion on a topic.

Kiara said,'You are either with us or you are against us' talking about DUMBO BUSH SUPPORTERS AND THEIR BLIND UNREALISTIC SUPPORT FOR DUMBO.
That is why I don't even bother trying to "debate" with neocons.
I just point out their failed leader DUMBO BUSH AND HIS CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT MISTAKES AND BLUNDERS.
All one has to remember is just a year or so ago most of the neocons on this board were bragging about DUMBO. Now the same Dumbo supporters spend all their time defending DUMBO'S MISTAKES AND BLUNDERS.

And i'm just like Classic with his creditability. In fact I have so much creditability that i'm thinking about getting another credit card so that I will be able to spread my creditability around a little better.

Well I think everyone has credibility. Everyone has a right to their beliefs and to express them but I really don't agree with the hurtful name calling EXCEPT those little endearing ones that are funny and not hurtful.
If everyone believed the same thing no disagreements this would really be a boring world, huh?

No. I'm the one with credibility!
kiara- In all fairness, it isn't just "some who side with the Bush administration" that believe you are "with us or against us". That's on both sides of the political fence. I think I'm one of those "middle-of-the-road" kind of people. There are those here that liken anyone who voted for Bush to the anti-Christ.

Twig, I was first responding to Maggie concerning her opening post and why she is treated that way. Personally I see Maggie as quite moderate with her views and she is educated and well-spoken. She also brings lots of charm and humor to this board. She gave her own opinion on Guantanamo and was met with personal insults that were uncalled for ....... perhaps I should have just said for her to consider the source.

I think Maggie/Bebeboom has gotten a LOT more moderate over the past few years.
Back in the day, she used to match the hatefulness of Crowfart. They used to feed off one another.
Lately, she has been much more civil and just plain "nice" most of the time. I guess there is a lot to be said about the company one keeps.
I definitely like the reformed 'Maggieboom' better than the old edition.

kiara- I might read a thread once and then move on, so I miss alot of the "fireworks". There are some posters that I very seldom read. Sometimes threads look interesting, sometimes I post and others I don't. I try to avoid threads that become one big name-calling contest and I try to avoid personality conflicts. It's childish, imo, for the most part. I wasn't trying to attack you and I thank you for not taking what I said the wrong way.
Sometimes a word or phrase strikes me funny, then I comment on that. If I don't understand something, and I don't think I'll sound too ignorant, I'll ask. And I like the joke threads. We all need to laugh a little more.....there's enough to stress a person out.
