This is the e-mail I received this morning on the new PayPal FREE Auction Site!
***************** Subject: PayPal Auction Opens
Date: Wed, 06 Dec 2000 09:29:18 -0500 Status: Normal
From: "NoBidding.com" <[email protected]>
Members,
NoBidding, Inc. is proud to announce the opening of AuXpal at http://www.auxpal.com.
AuXpal is a brand new auction site developed especially for members of PayPal
and is completely free to use. We are excited to say that AuXpal is the first
and only auction that offers automatic payments on all completed auctions.
That's right...at the end of every auction, the payment is processed instantly.
Funds are transferred from the winning bidder's PayPal account to the seller's
PayPal account within minutes of the auction ending. There are no extra forms
to fill out, no waiting period and absolutely no hassles. The days of asking
"How would you like me to pay?" have ended. Sellers don't need to worry about
"deadbeat bidders" anymore.
Please join us by visiting the site at http://www.auxpal.com
As always, thanks for being a loyal member of the NoBidding.com family of websites.

President, NoBidding, Inc.

How soon we forget!

Well, I'm going to give it a shot, what the heck, can't be any worse than Ebay.

Whoa! That's an interesting development.
NoBidding, Inc. seems like an odd name for the company running an online auction, though. And AuXpal doesn't exactly roll right off the tongue.
But of course I'll check it out. I like the idea of a PayPal-only auction.

Might as well ride it for FREE as long as we can - it's not like we're getting any 'bonuses' anywhere else right now. Their TOS says they have to give us 14 days notice if any fee structure will be charged. That's enough time to pull out.
Their site seems pretty simple and straight - forward. Kind of a baby version of ebay. Easy enough to list items on.
I like the idea of instant payment.
I say just do what you can with it, don't complain about any missing features up front - God knows every time one of these sites upgrades for the whiners the whole house collapses. It's free for now so just treat it as such.

Not doubting your email, but you must be special. As, I haven't received it yet. Also, I saw no reference to Versign so, is it real? Has anyone checked it? Ownership etc.? I'm not joining it yet!

But, and again heed my 'warning' ... it will not be free for very long. The part that makes it even scarier, and thus NOT an option to eBay, is that these guys will now be able to do anything they want with your credit cards and bank accounts.
Besides, anyone remember "Gold's"? Doesn't matter how good (or 'free') the site is ... if there are no buyers, there won't be any sellers except the PayPal Pom-Pom Wavers

You have to register. They want your PAYPAL user id and PASSWORD!
I would suggest that people sit tight until they hear from Paypal that this is indeed a legitimate offer and not another more elaborate hoax.

Where does it say that this place is owned/etc by PayPal? (ie: the title of this thread insinuates that PP opened this site)
This site is really, nothing else but another auction site.. one that has previously done it's business as "nobidding.com" and is now "auxpal.com".
I would be hesitant to give an unknown company (or even a known company for that matter) access to my PP account, in order to pay someone else. If they have access to your PP account the potential for them wiping out your bank account, CC, etc.
I would seriously investigate this further before jumping in with both feet.

I didn't have any trouble registering, but I found it a little disturbing that they have my old address from a year ago listed for my account. I went to PayPal and not only do they have my PO Box listed that I gave them, but they also have my current address and my previous address. I never gave them either one of those addresses -- what do they do, run an information check on everyone who registers??
The option to delete an address from the AuXpal site produces an error when I try to delete my old address.

What Rosiebud said.
The email did not come from a Paypal.com address, did it?
And that old bugaboo of pretenders to eBay's dominance in the online auction industry, namely lack of volume, may be the undoing of this idea even if it is legitimately in conjunction with PayPal.

Well, they're not owned by PayPal but they must be working together because when I registered they had my name, email, phone and address automatically. And they knew my PayPal password and told me I couldn't use it for my AuXpal account.

Pocono, you are absolutely right. I am going to give it a shot. If you don't feel secure, don't use it. End of discussion. One might think that someone was pointing a gun at your head.

I would suggest that people confirm with Paypal that this is indeed a legitimate enterprise and not another elaborate "snag your password" hoax.
Paypal may very well have gone and taken this step. But I want tohear it from Paypal.

I would attempt to find out, from PP, if this company has anything to do with them. They plainly state, on their site:
AuXpal is not affiliated with or endorsed by x.com
This is on the bottom of every page. It would be wise to question this, directly from PP, before you go confirming any password, contact, information.

When you click on "register" you get this:
Registering for AuXpal is simple. In the registration form, enter your PayPal email address and password. We require this information one time upon registering to verify your PayPal membership. After submitting, choose a username and password to be used on AuXpal. To maintain your privacy and security, the username and password you use on AuXpal MUST be different from the ones used on PayPal.
Looks like password harvesting to me...

...ebay, yahoo, and amazon are not associated with paypal either
This is true, but none of those sites is going to *need* your PayPal information, in order to "pay" the seller for you.. are they?

I have used nobidding several times. The main reason none of you have probably used and or heard of it is because it was mainly used for low profit fad stuff like beanies and pokemon cards. I didn't sell much off of there but used it several times to make trades.

No Rosie, I agree with you completely.
That is why I am on hold for an upper management at PayPal right now.
