pickersangel ~ there's legitmate companies who specialize in that sort of thing. Here's one for example: http://www.acxiom.com/. Acxiom has, what is called CRM, customer relationship management, using a new technology called AbiliTech. It can match a person, given certain information, against a huge knowledge base, with about a 98% accuracy in the US. They get this information from public records... whenever you fill out surveys.. bingo cards (the cards that are in magazines) ... or any type of source such as that.

That's just one way.. this company .. could have obtained the information.

What I don't understand is why there has been no "official" statement from Paypay posted here to put a stop to the bickering - is it a scam or isn't it a scam. Either this site has found a legitimate way to take advantage of Paypal without their permission, or Paypal useres are being sucked in. I don't see any middle ground here. Paypal should clear this up PDQ. Everyone will then know the real situation and can make an informed decision. jmho Pat

The site can only be proven a scam if wrong-doing has been done. Maybe it hasn't been YET. It's kind of hard to find evidence of a crime if a crime hasn't yet been committed.

Both Yahoo and Ebay will do this eventually. Yahoo in particular is moving this way quickly, using it's own Paydirect, so they will not be dependent or latched onto another entity. At the moment they require all buyers to register with a credit card and all sellers to have a "Y Wallet". I would not be surprised to see instant pay January or so. I hope so because some people already think this is the case.

I just had a deadbeat (Yahoo) and left a neg. Turns out she thought that her card was automatically charged when she won the auction. This comes from Amazon if you think about it. Purchases made in the marketplace or z shops being billed automatically. She was dumbfounded that she had to bother to initiate payment.

The point I am trying to make is that I do not think this site is the *future*. Bigger, more established and better funded entities will make this happen. In this time of .com failures and name like "ebay" or "Yahoo" gives confidence as it should. They have proven their staying power. Good idea but this site does not have the co-operation of Paypal and so based on that alone, the days are numbered.

***SOME CLARIFICATION***

The email was sent out to members at NOBIDDING.com...not to members of PayPal...
So for the people wondering why they didn't get one, simply you are not a member of nobidding.com.

Why would it come from Paypal anyway??? They didn't know anything about it!

HEARD THIS WAS A SCAM. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING THAT WAS COPIED FROM ONE OF EBAY'S MESSAGE BOARDS:
Hi all,
I have permission from Paypal to post this email here to stop the confusion regarding AUXPAL.COM. It is a scam, Paypal sent this to me, it is their internal correspondence. I called them and got it. Here it is:

If a customer contacts us regarding the "Auxpal" website, please tell them NOT to login to the site. If they have already, they should change their password immediately. You can let the customers know that we are aware of the site and are currently working to have it shut down. Thank you!

Sincerely, Chris F.
PayPal customer service

CHRIS SAID THEY WILL BE SHUTDOWN WITHIN HOURS, AND FOR ANYONE WHO GAVE THEM THEIR PASSWORD, TO GO TO PAYPAL NOW & CHANGE IT. -M

I received a similar e-mail from PayPal saying to immediately go into Paypal and change my password, if I had registered ata Aux.Pal, which I have done. After that I went to Aux.Pal and cancelled my auctions, and wrote them a note as to why.

bitsnpieces ~ I sort of feel that PP has already made a statement, when their representative posted here:

posted on December 6, 2000 01:19:24 PM

Hi,

Do not give your password to any site asking for your PayPal password. Again, please login to x.com or PayPal only.

Thank you.

If that's not saying only to only use your PP password at PP.. I'm not sure what is. I could be misreading your posts though.

That is not an official statement that addresses this problem effectively.

Also,Pikersangel had a questiion that hasn't been answered so I will repeat it...

"if AuXPal isn't associated with x.com or PayPal, where did they get the addresses and phone numbers of PayPal members who registered? Reverse lookup of the email address they use for PayPal?"

Now, mind you, not everyone who's registered with PP received that letter... so I would almost think that the question of where AuxPal got their information, should be answered by AuxPal.

Now we've heard, from some who registered, that AuxPal already had that information....... is there anyone who registered that the name/address/phone#/etc was not supplied by AuxPal?

Edited for clarity

Hi Helen ... although I haven't been able to prove it yet (Soon Come Man!), I am 99.44% sure that eBay is selling our names to other internet companies. They won't admit it, of course, but ever wonder where all those SPAM messages that start out with "Dear eBay User" come from? I wish I had a buck for every one of these that I have had to block/delete from my inbox

There's huge bucks to be made selling mailing lists, and I suspect eBay is doing this ... after all, they are $$$ driven!

******** EVERYONE ***********
Members of Nobidding.com got that email...
Not members of PayPal...
Please stop using that as an arguement against them!
The openly say they are associated with nobidding.com, and that they are not endorsed, or whatever, with paypal...

enjoy!

I SAID BEFORE, BE SMART, USE YOUR COMMON SENSE, THEY ARE WORKING HERE UNDERCOVER AND ARE UNDER THEIR PAYROLL, THEIR WORK IS TO MISLEAD YOU, TO CONFUSE YOU, TO SCARE YOU, TO MAKE YOU BELIEVE THAT NOBODY CAN WIN AGAINST THEM, IF YOU THINK THAT, YOU ARE WRONG, PLEASE eMEMBERS BE SMART.

NO COMPANY IN THE WORLD CAN CALL ANOTHER COMPANY YOU ARE A FRAUD UNLESS THEY ARE COMPLETELY SURE (legally) AND FROM ONE DAY TO ANOTHER IT'S IMPOSSIBLE. NOW, IF PAYPAL IS SO CONCERNED AND ALREADY DISCOVERED THAT AUXPAL IS A FRAUD WHAT ARE DOING TO INFORM US? DID THEY POST SOMETHING IN THEIR SITE? DID THEY EMAIL THEIR MEMBERS? WELL, THEY DIDN'T... WHY? BECAUSE THEY ARE CONSIDERING ALL ASPECTS EVEN IF THEY CAN PARTNER THIS COMPANY.

eSELLERS ARE EXACTLY WHERE THEY WANT TO BE, PLEASE BE ALERT THEY ARE MORE THAN 3 WORKING THE ENTIRE DAY HERE, TRYING TO CONFUSE YOU, THAT'S THEIR JOB, THEIR JOB WILL SAVE THE 10 THOUSAND POUNDS GORILLA MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN LAWSUITS, AND OF COURSE THE POSSIBILITY OF GROWING UP SO RAPIDLY, LIKE THEY ARE DOING NOW.

WHEN YOU WANT TO FILE A LAWSUIT AGAINST A BUSINESS OR AGAINST ANYONE YOU WILL ALWAYS SEEK FOR ADVICE FIRST, ONCE YOU LEARN ALL THE PROS AND CONS, THEN WILL SEEK FOR A LAWYER, THAT'S WHEN YOU ALREADY KNOW ENOUGH, AND WHEN YOU ARE READY TO TAKE ACTION.

WELL THESE FRUSTRATE PEOPLE (mostly eSellers) COME HERE FOR ADVICE BEFORE TAKING ANY ACTION, BUT HERE YOU ALWAYS FIND ONE THAT WILL TELL YOU THAT YOU DON'T HAVE A CASE, THAT YOU CAN NOT WIN, ALSO WILL TELL YOU THAT THEY ARE AND YOU ARE NOT, SUDDENLY A COUPLE MEMBER APPEARS AND CONFIRM ALL THAT, THEY EVEN SAY THEY ALREADY CONSULTED LAWYERS ETC. ETC. ETC. BY THE TIME YOUR THREAT ENDS YOU WILL BE SO CONVINCED THAT YOU WON'T EVER WIN AGAINST THEM IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. BE SMART, OF COURSE YOU CAN WIN, AND MANY PEOPLE DID, BUT THEY WILL ONLY POST THE ONES WHO DIDN'T, AND THEY WILL BRING THEIR CASES OVER AND OVER TO MAKE YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU BE ONE MORE IN THEIR STATISTIC, SURE, I BELIEVE YOU.

THEY ARE ALL OVER THIS PLACE, AND TO CONFUSE YOU THEY WILL POST ALL KINDS OF COMMENTS SO YOU THINK THAT THEY ARE NOT eAGENTS, THESE AGENTS ARE HERE FOR A WHILE, AND THEY ALREADY HAVE SAVED EGAY HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN LAWSUITS, I WOULD SAY MILLIONS, ALSO A BAD REPUTATION.
THEY ARE NOT HERE TO LISTEN YOUR COMMENTS OR TO HELP THEIR MEMBERS, THEY ARE HERE TO MISLEAD YOU AND CONFUSE YOU, BECAUSE IF THEY DON'T DO THAT, YOU DEFINITELY REPRESENT A TREAT FOR THEIR ACTIVITIES, AND BELIEVE ME, THEY KNOW THAT VERY WELL, AND YOU HAVE MORE POWER THAT YOU EVEN THINK, BUT THEY ALREADY MAKE YOU/US BELIEVE THAT WE ARE JUST A POOR ANTS AGAINST A GORILLA OF 10 THOUSAND POUNDS. DON'T BELIEVE THAT.
THESE AGENTS ARE EASY TO DETECT, THEY KNOW TOOOOOOOOO MUCH ABOUT EGAY (legal stuff). ALSO THEY USUALLY TELLS HORRIBLE STORIES ABOUT THEIR COMPETITORS, PLEASE USE YOUR COMMON SENSE, ALSO TRY TO QUESTION THESE INDIVIDUALS AND WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT EGAY.

Poton.
