Conservative Students to Display "ACLU Nativity Scene"

¯
by Jay on 11-30-06 @ 11:50 am Filed under ACLU, Church And State, 1st Amendment, News, Christmas
I laughed out loud when I read this news.

The Young Conservatives of Texas - University of Texas Chapter announced today that they will be displaying an "ACLU Nativity Scene"¯ on the West Mall of the University of Texas campus on Monday and Tuesday, December 4th and 5th.

The group's intent is to raise awareness on the extremity of the ACLU, and bring to light its secular-progressive efforts to remove Christmas from the public sphere.

The display, the first of its kind in the nation, will feature characters that are quite a bit different than the standard cache.

"We've got Gary and Joseph instead of Mary and Joseph in order to symbolize ACLU support for homosexual marriage,

and of course there isn't a Jesus in the manger,"¯ said Chairman Tony McDonald.

"The three Wise Men are Lenin, Marx, and Stalin because the founders of the ACLU were strident supporters of Soviet style Communism."

"The whole scene is a tongue-in-cheek way of showing the many ways that the ACLU and the far left are out of touch with the values of mainstream America."¯

The scene will also display a terrorist shepherd and an angel in the form of Nancy Pelosi.

"The ACLU and other left-wing extremist groups are working diligently to destroy American's rights to the free expression of religion," said Executive Director Joseph Wyly.

"We've already seen in Chicago an attempt to censor the nativity by a city government this week. It's just more evidence that there is a War on Christmas being waged by the far-left in this country."

¯
Its always great to see young people who know whats going on and are actively doing something about it.

This is a hillarious way to raise awareness on a serious issue. I applaud!

Wild Bill was so inspired he created his own ACLU nativity scene.

Oh linduh, life must be very boring for you to dredge up the Republicans old, trite, phony "War on Christmas" .

It didn't win many VOTES, did it?LOL!

And, YOU are not exactly the poster child for christianity so your posts are laughable at best!

Your support of a parody of a very sacred event in the beliefs of christians proves that.

You SUPPORT the idea that Joseph was gay?!
Well, I suppose he could've been....so?

I can see Pelosi as an angel but really , linduh, I think the shepherd as a terrorist is really insulting to christians everywhere .
TSK TSK TSK!

Why don't you leave the mocking of christian beliefs to ME ??

There are plenty of kooks out there who are always insisting because THEY are offended...then everyone else should be FORCED to not celebrate the NATIONAL holiday.
SANTA CLAUS Deemed too RELIGIOUS

By Randy Hall
CNSNews.com Staff Writer/Editor
November 30, 2006
(CNSNews.com) -

A Christmas-themed event to raise money at a public elementary school in Warwick, N.Y., has been altered to accommodate a parent's complaints that the program would illegally spotlight a "religious" figure - Santa Claus.

"Breakfast With Santa" has since been changed to "Winter Wonderland Breakfast," and -- in an effort to be inclusive of all beliefs -- the bearded one will now be joined at the Dec. 9 event by Frosty the Snowman.

Organizers made the changes after one parent charged that she and others in the community were offended that the Parent Teacher Association at the Sanfordville Elementary School was sponsoring a program geared toward one religion.

That parent, who did not wish to have her name used, wrote a letter to the school board asserting that Santa represents Christmas -- a Christian holiday -- and by law, a public school is not allowed to promote religion.

<snip>

Mike Johnson, senior legal counsel for the conservative Alliance Defense Fund, told Cybercast News Service the situation was "just absurd."

"My general reaction is probably the same as 95 percent of Americans when they hear about something like this," Johnson said. "It's ridiculous that we have to think twice about whether it's OK to celebrate Christmas in public."

While acknowledging that Saint Nicholas, a Dutch bishop who had a reputation for giving gifts in secret, "clearly was the original figure that Santa is based upon," he noted that "most people would recognize Santa Claus himself as a secular-type figure."

"The underlying principle here is that the First Amendment does not guarantee any of us a right not to be offended," Johnson said.

"These radical leftist types are arguing that just because 95 percent of Americans, according to recent polling, celebrate Christmas, they ought not to have that right" since a person with a different view might object.

Did you have a point linduh?

Please read what you posted.... first you say PLENTY OF KOOKS and then in your C&P there is ONE parent who objected ...ONE means less than two , linduh.

Is that your "proof" that ALL LIBERALS have a "war against Christmas" ?

Your posts keep proving that you do this for a living because no one in their right mind would present themselves as so stupid without compensation.

Here's the "Question You Won't Answer " ....

Think the Democrats lost any votes on this one ???!

Hahahahahaaahaha!!!!!

Oh, and just for the record ...I think that ONE parent is as ridiculous as you are !

Yes, just one....whose wishes are put ahead of the other 98% of American's. tsk tsk tsk

AND there are plenty of these 'ones' that the ACLU continues to support.

That's why I contribute to the ACLJ....they working against the ACLU and all the kooks that think one or two complaints makes the rules for all the others.
============

The ACLU is at it again.

With an outrageous boldness that only they could muster, the ACLU has once again set their sights on Christmas celebrations.

In their never-ending quest to completely eradicate all things religious from public life, the ACLU's latest lawsuit is an all-out frontal attack on the freedom of speech and the free exercise of religion.

Let me ask you "when did a children's Christmas program become "an illegal activity?"

When did the nativity story and Christmas songs become unconstitutional? This is the outrageous and dangerous charge the ACLU has leveled against a school district in Tennessee.

A children's Christmas program has been deemed to be an "illegal activity"¯ because of the ACLU.

This week, our senior attorneys at the American Center for Law and Justice are working on this latest ACLU case. The ACLU is absolutely determined to censor Christmas.

They have sued the Wilson County School System outside of Nashville, TN.

[b]We represent several school officials and teachers who have been charged with engaging in what the ACLU calls "illegal acts."¯

The ACLU claims that the plaintiffs have been harmed, injured and "suffered irreparable damage"¯ through the Christmas program because of its "Christian themes and songs."¯

The ACLU will then ask for these actions be declared "unconstitutional and illegal."

LOL! Rant away It still won't win any votes! LOL!

What YOU hate about the ACLU is that it's for EVERYBODY, rich or poor, blind or sighted, disabled or not, any color, either sex, any religion, they will defend EVERYBODY'S rights including christians' rights.....and you only want YOUR rights defended.

There's a simple concept that you, in your ignorance and hatred , just can't grasp......

PUBLIC entities should not support RELIGIOUS practices or ideas.

YOU scream against using YOUR taxes for things YOU don't approve of like helping those less fortunate...

..why can't the shoe be on the other foot?

Why should my taxes be used to promote a religion?

Any church, any religion, any individual is perfectly free to display things like a nativity scene/CRECHE ON THEIR OWN PROPERTY.

Can we see a photo of yours????

And it's rather confusing that you want to defend christian rights so much by approving of the ridiculing of one of their most sacred events....(see OP)

Oh, but that's just another issue you will avoid.....

The HUGE problem with that is there are NO RESTRICTIONS in our Constitutional right to practice our/their religion.

NO limits are set at all. NO where does it say children can't do exactly what they've been doing since our Nation was formed.

That's where the ACLU and atheists are wrong.

To practice FREELY.....not with restrictions.

Celebrating Christmas....nor now SANTA....is against ANY law. LOL

But I do agree....that is what the ACLU is working towards....and why groups like the ACLJ are fighting to KEEP our religious freedoms ALIVE.

But change is possible, a buddy of mine who lives in Austin & has a liberal school teacher girl friend convinced her to get a concealed handgun license.

Even before most Thanksgiving turkeys were fully devoured, the war against Christmas, which is really a war against Christians, had already begun!

Listed below are some recent highlights:

* The United Kingdom Royal Mail has unveiled six different Christmas stamps for the holiday season, including images of Santa and a snowman. Not a single one of them contains any religious symbolism. The Church of England has challenged this decision to issue only secular stamps, none reflecting the true reason for the holiday.

* After experiencing a backlash last season from unhappy customers and frustrated employees, Wal-Mart has decided to retreat from its use of ''Happy Holidays'' and will once again permit employees to greet shoppers with ''Merry Christmas.'' Wal-Mart will also be playing Christmas carols now through the end of the year.

* For 65 years the city of Berkley, Michigan, has allowed a holiday nativity scene to be displayed in front of its City Hall, alongside Santa Claus, snowmen, and a Star of David. After a lawsuit was threatened by the ACLU, the city council has been debating removing the crčche.

* After a citizen complaint, city officials in Tillamook, Oregon, ordered the removal of a Nativity display at a drive-thru espresso stand because the owner leased the property from the city.

* A Florida elementary school has omitted songs about Christmas from its holiday concert program, despite the fact that songs celebrating Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and the ''winter season'' will still be included.

* According to a Michigan parent, an elementary school music teacher, acting on instructions from the school principal, instructed children to eliminate the word ''God'' from all songs in her school's holiday concert. Whenever the word ''God'' appeared in the music, the children were instructed to be silent instead.

Good for both of them. When viewing the much worse crime level in places where guns have been outlawed....actually taking away ANOTHER constitutional right we are GUARANTEED ....it's no surprise more want to be able to protect themselves.

What a load of hoo-haw. Nobody is going to take away "our guns", or "our Christmas". My school, which is run by Me, the flaming (and armed) "liberal", still has a Christmas Program in which all classes participate and which culminates in a live nativity scene with a real live often screaming bloody murder baby jesus. My son was baby jesus when he was a newborn. We've been doing it for 100 years here. This year, there will be 4 Jewish and two Muslim kids participating.

Nobody buys this war on Christmas crap except a few extremist nutballs who want the ten commandments on classroom walls.

profe - Perhaps you might want to 'catch up' on laws being put in place in American....especially since you're actually teaching children.

There are at least three cities that I'm aware of where guns are BANNED.
Chicago, San Francisco and DC. Their constitutional guaranteed RIGHTS have been taken away from them by LIBERALS.

Then there are several cities where different types of guns are BANNED.

There are also some laws in many cities that don't allow guns to be carried within certain distances of schools.....which pretty much means you can't have them ANYWHERE.

------------

On all these law suits being hoo haw....you again only prove how unaware you are of what is going on in our courts....with groups likes the ACLJ defending the religious CONSTITUTIONAL rights of Americans.

That it's NOT happening in the school you teach in means NOTHING.....it IS happening all over America.

Soon to come to a school near you.

The bottom line, Linda is that nobody is going to disarm this country. Nobody. It will never happen. You will discover that those towns that banned guns did it through the good old fashioned electoral process for the most part. Local control is an historically sacred tenet of REAL conservatism. Maybe you'd forgotten that.

also Linda, not all guns are banned in S.F., VOTERS there chose to ban handguns, which are statistically used in most crimes committed with guns. Residents can still own long weapons all they want to. I don't know about the other two towns that banned guns. Your argument is so specious and boring that I really don't feel like looking them up. Maybe you know for a fact how they went about banning guns. For example, did they ban ALL GUNS or only handguns? How did they do it? By some sort of governmental fiat, or did they VOTE for it?

Well?

No backpeddling, profe.

Your original statement was FALSE. "[i]What a load of hoo-haw. Nobody is going to take away "our guns", or "our Christmas".

They have...as I've shown...and they continue to attempt to do so.

Those who did not agree with being FORCED to give up their guns...because others wanted them to, doesn' change the FACT that now they're breaking the law IF they were to honor their constitutionally GUARANTEED RIGHT to own them.

And S.F will soon be just like DC is now. The only ones who have guns are the criminals.....so the victims can just use their phone receivers to hit the intruders over the head with until the police arrive to SAVE them. What a joke.

No where does it say ANY one can take away our guns....our constitutional rights - even by voting to do so.

But that's what liberals are continually working for. As they are with removing any mention of religion from the public square.

So imo, they don't really honor our Constitution at all.....just the parts they want to - but give 'lip service' to supporting it all.
