Oh! Brothers! I understand what they are trying to do, but there was a MUCH SIMPLER WAY! Instead of PRE-APPROVING EVERYONE, just let us create a list of those WE DO NOT WANT as bidders, which usually only amounts to a couple or so....Instead, there we go, with stupid and long steps! When will they learn???????!!!!!!!!

Yes, a blocked bidder list would make more sense. "Email me before bidding so I can check your credit rating" just won't do it with my bidders.

Uh, excuse me ma'am, would you mind if I checked you out before you bid, so's that I can decide if I want you to send me your dough?

Thanks

Out of all the ideas actually worth stealing from Yahoo, the buttwipes at eBay decided to fung this one up royally.
Yahoo makes it so damn simplistic, even the geeks at eBay should have been able to see the beauty in it?

How do I blacklist a bidder?

Under certain circumstances, you might want to prevent a specific bidder from bidding in your future auctions. To blacklist a bidder, follow these steps:

1. Click on the "Options" link on the upper right hand corner.

2. Click on "Edit Blacklist".

3. Enter the ID of the bidder you want to blacklist.

4. Click on the "Add to Blacklist" button.

To remove a bidder from your blacklist, select bidder and click on the "Delete" button.

On the plus side, we can probably expect several weeks of server downtime while eBay works the bugs out of this latest brainchild.

Red-deer am I reading this correctly, no one will be able to bid on our auctions unless we put ourselves through another set of hoops. How strange they want to slow us down when trying to list with another brain wave. Joyce

Hi Joyce!

Not to worry, it's just another one of the numerous useless options that 99.9% of the sellers will never use.

BTW - What the heck are you doing up so late?

You know, I honestly don't believe this feature. In order to sell something and NOT have anyone on the pre-approval list am I supposed to DEACTIVATE IT? Is the pre-approval list the DEFAULT setting? Are they saying that if I list an item like usual and do nothing about the pre-approval list that nobody will be able to bid on my auction?

Please, tell me it ain't so!!

Ok! I managed through my inside contacts at eBay to find out who is responsible for the approve bidders program. It is the guy that rides this thing to work.

http://server3002.freeyellow.com/j-d/cow-a-socky.jpg

This was his previous mode of transportation before he upgraded.

I believe that his transportation is indicative of his sophistication.

Hi Blanche, no it doesn't appear to be the default. It looks like this feature is only activated if a seller chooses to use it.

Off the AB

As a seller, you may:

1) Use this tool for any item that you prefer

I'm not sure what those surfer geeks in San Jose have been smokin, but I want some!

So tell me, who performed the pre-frontal lobotomy on the new options staff?

Did someone at eBay ever think that a "blacklisted" bidder can also "switch" to another "perfect" ID made "before" hand or completely "re-register" for a "new" one?

Can those "folks" at eBay "see" my "quotes" here so that "they" can "understand?"

And is "this" kinda "annoying??"

CS ...... eBay doesn't have a "blacklisted" bidder option. I think you best go read the info again. Yahoo has that option, which IMO makes a hellofa lot more sense than what the pin heads at eBay have dreamed up.

Omit "blacklisted" (which was used in generic terms, not actual), and think about the fact that even with a safeguard eBay is gonna have in place, it's gonna be pretty easy for someone to dump the old ID and exchange it with a new one.

CS ...... I think you're still missing the point?
eBay's new feature is one that will only allow bidders to place a bid, if they've been pre approved. If I say X Y & Z can bid on my auction, and no one else is on the "pre approved" list [if I chose that option], then only X Y & Z can place a bid. Capeech?

Yes, with Yahoo's "blacklisted" feature people can still get around it by using a bogus ID, but it beats the helloutta eBay's option.

The only advantage I can see to this new feature is if a seller wants to run a private auction but eBay ALREADY has that option. I just don't get it!! Reddeer, you're right - the blocked bidder list would be a more useful function.

It sure makes me wonder about eBay's priorities since I noticed that this feature will eventually be available for a FEE. I'm amazed that they actually paid someone to "think" this one up when they have so many major problems that need their attention.

I honestly believe eBay has "paved over Paradise in order to put up a parking lot."
