Exactly. Anybody who doesn't wash their produce, no matter what the package says, is a dope and deserves to get sick.

Let's see now. I'll look on the produce label. If it says "product of Mexico", I'll assume it's unsafe, as everybody knows Mexico is a backward country where nobody knows that handwashing prevents the spread of disease. I'll either not buy it or I'll wash it real good before I eat it. If it says "grown in California", I won't wash it, because the U.S. is progressive and knows about the spread of icky germs and nobody would contaminate MY spinach with their poopy fingers, oh wait... unless of course the spinach was picked by DIRTY Mexican illegals who don't understand about germs and even if they do they don't care, so once again, I'll either not buy it or I'll wash the crap out of it before it meets my lips. Or, I won't eat spinach I haven't grown in my own garden, where the E-Coli germs I give myself will at the very least be MINE to start with.

I'm waitin sugartits, JUSTIFY that statement please.

ROFLOL......yep....rang his bell didn't it.
I haven't even seen your so-called cattle prod, profe....so I have no reason to be upset over it. Just more of your WILD imagination at work once again.
How do I know about poor hygiene in mexico....anyone, including myself, that has EVER gone to any border town has witnessed it themselves. THAT'S how.
Now go have one of your 'fit's with someone else.
"While the democratic party complains about everything THIS President does to protect our Nation": "What would a Democrat president have done at that point?"
"Apparently, the answer is: Sit back and wait for the next terrorist attack."

If border towns are your guide, you're more ignorant than I originally thought. You haven't justified your bigoted statement. You'll have to do better than that. Your racism is flying as high as your flag sweety pie.

Hmmm, I wonder why it is that when traveling in Mexico they always say, don't drink the water. Could it be because their hygiene practices foul it all up?

Generally speaking, travellers have an easier time traveling to developed countries such as Canada,Western Europe,Japan,Singapore etc.
In the less develeoped countries,if you insist on visiting areas outside the tourist trap, you are taking a chance, your immune system may just be under attack, not just Mexico, but China,India ,Thailand ,Rwanda, etc.
I would not be surprised rural farmers of China are still using human feces as fertiliser, bamboo chopsticks sitting in a bin filled with dirty greasy water waiting to be washed and dried is a good way to pick up Hepatitis.
Food is expensive in many parts of the world, folks just cant afford to throw them out just because it is 'a little spoiled'.

Also contamined with LEAD candy from mexico.
And I believe avocados too....can't remember if that was because of 'pests', chemicals used to kill the pests, or just out-and-out fecal contamination.

Watch the people at the produce section in any busy market ...... picking their noses, sneezing and coughing, scratching their butts, etc and then fondling the fruits and vegetables. The handle of any shopping cart carries a multitude of nasty germs. Some people are dirty creatures no matter what country they are from or what they've been taught.

Actually from what I read, the final results of the study determined that feral hogs had invaded the farms and spread the e coli. And since MOST of the farms were in S Cal on the Mexican border, draw your own conclusions.... "“More Iraqis think things are going well in Iraq than Americans do. I guess they don’t get the New York Times over there.”—Jay Leno".

This article states that they are investigating a warehouse in NJ that supplied the green onions to Taco Bell and are tracing the source from there through the food chain.

According to the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), foodborne illnesses infect about 76 million Americans every year, of which 325,000 become hospitalized and 5,000 die. The estimated total cost to the nation, including pain and suffering, medical expenses and lost productivity is between 10 and 83 billion US dollars a year.
The foods that caused the most infections between 1990 and 2004 were greens-based salads, turkey, chicken, ground beef and shellfish, causing over 800 outbreaks and some 23,000 individual cases in the 15 year period (CSPI database). Infections specifically due to E. Coli resulted mostly from ingestion of ground beef, followed by lettuce, unpasteurised milk and greens-based salads.

Mingo: The Food and Drug Administration and the Dept. of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service are responsible for food inspections in the U.S. In total they are able to inspect about 10% of all the food we consume. Comforting thought eh? Wash your hands, and wash your greens.
You can draw whatever conclusions you want bear, but if those were Mexican feral hogs, they sure traveled a long way. That contaminated spinach was grown in the Salinas Valley, not exactly "S Cal on the Mexican border". Specifically the contaminated greens were packed by a company in San juan Bautista, and the FDA narrowed it's warning to ONLY spinach grown in Santa Clara, San Benito and Monterey Counties. Get out your atlas. That town and those counties are in CENTRAL california, several hundred miles from the border. In addition, the virulent form of E-Coli found in that spinach was also isolated from cow flops found in pastures adjacent to the spinach fields. Good old American cows bear.
If you knew much about biology you'd know that your poop is as full of E-Coli as any Mexican's, and all it takes is not washing your hands after you move your bowels and you risk infecting whatever you touch with that E-Coli.

Sometimes cramps and diarrhea are not caused by poor hygiene. Traveler's diarrhea (Montezuma's revenge)is caused by a bacterium strain present in food and water, to which Mexicans are normally immune, but that causes disease in foreigners. Mexicans can come into the USA and suffer the same fate. There is always bacteria present in water, but each country is used to their own bacteria and do not sicken from it.

You're exacty right coincoach. My cousins who live way south in Mexico get that when they come here. It's gone in a day or two. They bring their own bottled water as they don't trust mine.
hwahwa: them feral hogs are tasty eating, too...

"Traveler's diarrhea"
is not the only kind of intestinal disease that is the problem.
Up until about 5-10 years ago...their intestional diseases were the leading cause of deaths of mexican newborns. So...it's not JUST and issue of being in a different country. There are 4 different types....if not more.
The FDA only inspects food from mexico 1-2% of the time - funding issues.
"FDA meanwhile only has the authority to inspect food at the border and, even then, only has the staff to check one to two percent of import shipments". ...
