They are too scared to let it even go to a vote. VOTES....the way our democracy was set up to function.

But nope...just MORE obstructionism from the left....as usual.

Another great loss in leadership of our Nation.

Bush Accepts Bolton's U.N. Resignation

WASHINGTON

Unable to win Senate confirmation, U.N. Ambassador John Bolton will step down when his temporary appointment expires within weeks, the White House said Monday.

Bolton's nomination has languished in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for more than a year, blocked by Democrats and several Republicans. Sen. Lincoln Chafee, a moderate Republican who lost in the midterm elections Nov. 7 that swept Democrats to power in both houses of Congress, was adamantly opposed to Bolton.

Critics have questioned Bolton's brusque style and whether he could be an effective public servant who could help bring reform to the U.N.

President Bush, in a statement, said he was "deeply disappointed that a handful of United States senators prevented Ambassador Bolton from receiving the up or down vote he deserved in the Senate."

"They chose to obstruct his confirmation, even though he enjoys majority support in the Senate, and even though their tactics will disrupt our diplomatic work at a sensitive and important time," Bush said. "This stubborn obstructionism ill serves our country, and discourages men and women of talent from serving their nation."

Bush gave Bolton the job temporarily in August 2005, while Congress was in recess. Under that process, the appointment expires when Congress formally adjourns, no later than early January.

The White House resubmitted Bolton's nomination last month. But with Democrats capturing control of the next Congress, his chances of winning confirmation appeared slight.

The incoming chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Democratic Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware, said he saw "no point in considering Mr. Bolton's nomination again."

While Bush could not give Bolton another recess appointment, the White House was believed to be exploring other ways of keeping him in the job, perhaps by giving him a title other than ambassador. But Bolton informed the White House he intended to leave when his current appointment expires, White House deputy press secretary Dana Perino said.

Bush planned to meet with Bolton and his wife later Monday in the Oval Office.

Bush said he accepted Bolton's decision with deep regret.
"He served his country with extraordinary dedication and skill, assembling coalitions that addressed some of the most consequential issues facing the international community," the president said.

"During his tenure, he articulately advocated the positions and values of the United States and advanced the expansion of democracy and liberty."

"Ambassador Bolton led the successful negotiations that resulted in unanimous Security Council resolutions regarding North Korea's military and nuclear activities. He built consensus among our allies on the need for Iran to suspend the enrichment and reprocessing of uranium," Bush added. "His efforts to promote the cause of peace in Darfur resulted in a peacekeeping commitment by the United Nations. He made the case for United Nations reform because he cares about the institution, and wants it to become more credible and effective."

Bolton, who pushed strongly for U.N. reform, has had strained relations with many in the U.N. Secretariat, led by Secretary-General Kofi Annan, and has repeatedly called for all top U.N. officials to leave when Annan steps down as U.N. chief on Dec. 31 and is replaced by Ban Ki-moon.

"I think Ambassador Bolton did the job he was expected to do," Annan said Monday morning when asked about Bolton's resignation. "He came at a time when we had lots of tough issues from reform to issues on Iran and North Korea. I think as a representative of the U.S, givenment, he pressed ahead with the instructions he had been given and tried to work as effectively as he could."

As late as last month, Bush, through his top aides, said he would not relent in his defense of Bolton, despite unwavering opposition from Democrats who view Bolton as too combative for international diplomacy.

Think the dem party will nominate anyone who 'works to REFORM' the corrupt U.N. they so support? I seriously doubt it.

"While the democratic party complains about everything THIS President does to protect our Nation": "What would a Democrat president have done at that point?"

"Apparently, the answer is: Sit back and wait for the next terrorist attack."

What in the world are you talking about??? Just LYING again? Yep...looks like it since the Nov. vote had NOTHING to do with their obstructionism BEFORE the elections.

Informed people KNOW they were doing this from the first time his nomination was broached. GET A CLUE for once.

Don't be embarrassed....you're OFTEN WRONG when you post false statements.

Bolton's nomination dates back MORE THAN A YEAR. They were BLOCKING it then.....and they STILL said they would.

The Nov. election didn't change a thing ON THIS ISSUE.

Continue to deny it if you wish....just shows how your ability to comprehend FACTS sucks.

edited to add: It's been closer to TWO years now.

Verification from wikipedia.org

"On March 7, 2005 Bolton was nominated to the post of U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations by President George W. Bush. As a result of a Democratic filibuster he was never confirmed by the Senate."

"Bolton's nomination initially received strong support from Republicans but faced heavy opposition from Democrats due initially to concerns about his strongly expressed views on the United Nations,[30] and later, alleged actions while at the State Department.[31]"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some of Bolton's accomplishments while serving our great Nation:
===
Mr. Bolton brokers peace agreements, frustrates despots, fights genocide and steers nuclear weapons from the twitchy fingers of tyrants:
    Mr. Bolton and France's ambassador led the Security Council to approve a unanimous resolution to end last summer's Hezbollah war on Israel. While America should have encouraged Israel to eradicate Hezbollah once and for all, Mr. Bolton successfully executed his orders to stop the combat and authorize U.N. peacekeepers.
    He assembled an international coalition that blocked the bid of Hugo Chavez, Venezuela's Marxist strongman, to join the Security Council. This anti-authoritarian alliance survived 47 ballots. An eventual compromise helped moderate, pro-American Panama fill that spot.
    Mr. Bolton arranged the Security Council's first deliberations on Burma's human-rights abuses. "The time has come for the suffering of the Burmese people to end and for democratic change to begin," Mr. Bolton said Sept. 29.
    Mr. Bolton properly belittled the new Human Rights Council, a forum where Cuba and Zimbabwe lecture civilized nations on how to treat their citizens. He compared this unit's creation to "putting lipstick on a caterpillar and calling it a butterfly."
    Mr. Bolton invited actor George Clooney and Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel to brief the Security Council last September on Arab mass-murder of non-Arabs in Darfur, Sudan.
"Every day we delay only adds to the suffering of the Sudanese people and extends the genocide," Mr. Bolton said.
He engineered the Security Council's approval of 22,500 U.N. peacekeepers in Darfur.
Mr. Bolton continues to pressure Sudan's government to accept these personnel atop the 7,000 African Union soldiers already on site.
    Mr. Bolton persuaded the Security Council to pass a resolution denouncing Iran's uranium enrichment program and demanding that Tehran halt its atomic hanky-panky.
    Mr. Bolton, with the help of China's and Japan's ambassadors, negotiated unanimously adopted Security Council resolutions condemning North Korea's July 4 missile test and penalizing its Columbus Day A-bomb blast.
Mr. Bolton has won plaudits from his peers.
    "I enjoy working with him," Chinese Ambassador Wang Guangya told reporters Nov. 14. "Professionally, he's capable. He's effective," Mr. Wang added.
    "He is having a definite impact," Romanian Ambassador Mihnea Motoc told the Los Angeles Times' Maggie Farley. "Others wish they could do things the same way."
    "He has an agenda, and he's pursuing it with a conviction that is uncommon here," said Algerian Ambassador Abdallah Baali.
    One secret of Mr. Bolton's success may be "shot-clock diplomacy." He twice has taken the Security Council to New York Knicks games at Madison Square Garden.
    "It's fun for two or three hours," Ambassador Wang told the Associated Press.
"We think of nothing but sport."
    This "bully" was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
    Per Ahlmark, Sweden's former deputy prime minister, proposed Mr. Bolton (and journalist Kenneth Timmerman) for challenging Iran's hunger for nukes.
As Mr. Ahlmark explained in the Feb. 7 issue of the Wall Street Journal, Mr. Bolton "has with unusual energy tried to find ways to counter this threat. Friends and foes agree -- he never gives up."
    Democratic senators and Republican turncoat Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island continue to block Mr. Bolton's reconfirmation.
President Bush should engage this issue fully by flying to the U.N., standing by his ambassador, and declaring:
    "John Bolton has stymied despots, comforted potential genocide victims and hindered Kim Jong-il's and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's atomic ambitions. He toils from dawn to dusk to promote international peace and protect America's national security. The Senate should send this man back to work."
==========
Yet this is a man who the democratic party won't even let his nomination go for an up or down vote????
What are they afraid of? That he's on AMERICAS SIDE - and has been VERY effective in doing a GREAT job for our Nation??????
Sure appears that way to me.
Only the NEW-CON beast Liar_k would shout "OBSTRUCTIONISM" Most sane people would call Boulton leaving HOUSE CLEANING.
With Bushy NOW being a LAME DUCK Bolton wouldn't get much done any longer. The whole World knows that. That's what you get when the majority of Americans voted for change. Its called getting rid of the old people that got America into this mess.
The beast Liar_k forgets the majority of Americans VOTED FOR CHANGE we are just starting to see change with Rummy and now Bolton getting out.
BTW Liar_K,did you see the memo Rummy wrote a few days ago just before he resigned? If not I will be glad to inform you what is said. The Memo said what the majority of Americans already knew.
The Memo said the plan for the Iraq Nam invasion wasn't working. After all this time and 2900 American Troops dead Rummy finally figured out "staying the course" was a sh*t plan drawn up by Bushy,Rummy and other stupid NEW-CON azzes.
CAN YOU SAY CIVIL WAR YET???
