Pursglove said that 15 to 20 Voices members were consulted about both programs.
No, that is incorrect. With reference to the voices and PowerSellers, the article said:
Pursglove said that response to a mentoring program was very positive when eBay polled its PowerSellers. Similar results came from "voices" groups consisting of 15 to 20 users that participated in conference calls and online discussions at eBay.
We discussed the appeal of a "mentoring program" - the same as people might discuss the appeal of a "non-paying bidder program" or a "powerseller program."
We did not discuss any specifics, not software, not reputation management systems, not a third-party company.

I presume that the rest of your message was just a general comment and not directed at me.
About the "bones", though, I think it went more like this:
Q: Do you think having some kind of a program where a seller can offer his skills as a mentor is a good idea?
A: Yes, it's probably a real good idea.
A: Okay. Other people agree. Let's find a way to do it.

Voices = Scam to silence the vocals
The so called "voices" have about as much input in what ebay impliments, as I do in the way florida counts votes.
ZERO.
I also know many who were invited to join<snicker> "Voices", and each one was very vocal and outspoken against ebay, until they joined, and were whipped into shape via the ebay brainwashing process.
"We like you, we really, really like you, and your input is so valuable to us... If you need anything at all, or have any problems at all, just ring us up, and we'll help you, honest, cause your special to us, we really mean it, honest!"
( and be sure that you never, ever, never tell anyone what we say, or show them our double secret handshake )
The LAST thing that "voices" members have, is a VOICE!

Reddeer..yes LOL! Thats what I think of the opinions of those who have been asked to join, refuse the opportunity to prove their negative observations are correct, and then continue to make negative comments. The opinons have become laughable!

Zeenza:
NEW VOICE MEMBERS EVERY 6 MONTHS
This isn't a static "one group" of voices - there is a new voices group roughly every quarter.
FRESH IDEAS
See above.
RANDOMLY SELECTED
They are randomly selected. Not all voices members are selected by eBay, by the way - some are recommended by other eBayers.
EXPERIENCE ON EBAY MANDATORY 2+ Years
I don't know if there is a minimum tenure requirement, but most of the people in voices have been on eBay for a long time.

Lets see...right now I'm fighting the flu and it's my birthday...so plans went flying out the window.
All I can say is I was NOT invited to voices because I was a vocal user...I was invited because of my intelligence and wit.
It's a joke!...really...smile everyone
Actually..while I never threw fits on the boards...I've thrown many thru the voices programs. Does it do any good?...sometimes yes, sometimes no...so I can honestly say I wasn't invited to keep me quiet. They probably at this point think they created a monster.
Many of us read this board and the threaded boards to keep up on what problems users might be having on the site and send it in...it's not necessarily always ebay that contacts us.
One of the reasons I never post on the boards is I run between 400-600 auctions a month and I'ze tired.

Glenda - I have no idea whether you are speaking as a Power Seller or a Voices member.
However, it makes no difference. The programs make no sense to me, (why people would freely give of their time and expertise to make a multi-million dollar corporation even more profitable is beyond my comprhension).
As for the "bones", seems I was right. You may disagree.
Edited to add: I realized that investing any time whatsoever into discussing the Voices groups is a complete waste of time, so I won't be posting again or reading in this thread.

Now Solid, you know darn well I would never pick on you, and I'm sorry you're feeling under the weather. I hope you're feeling better soon!
I think if you go back & read all my comments, you'll find that I'm criticizing the program itself, not the people that have volunteered their time.
You also have to keep in mind that I know several people that have attended Voices, and not all of them left with the same opinion of the meetings as you did.

Quoting RM:
"So, believe what you will but don't think that you KNOW what the voices program is all about until you've joined the program and actually done something more than simply bad-mouthing it."
That's just the problem, those of us who haven't 'joined' DON'T know squat about what goes on! (I highly doubt I can just send an email and say, Hey! I wanna join!)
Aren't the members of voices supposed to represent (at least loosely) the users of ebay? If so, then why don't we (the 'represented') get updates on what's going on? When do we have an opportunity to provide input? No time to read the boards? They're FULL of input!! MAKE the time if you WANT to be a member of Voices! If you don't have the time .. let someone who does take over your spot!
Kinda like if your State Representative was appointed instead of elected and no one ever told you what your government was considering doing! MHO
I have a memory like a steel trap .. unfortunately it's rusted shut!

People provide input by posting on the boards, answering surveys, and responding to the email addresses listed on the Announcement Board when they ask for input about category changes, etc. - eBay reps reads them. And, there are voices folks who read these forums and the eBay boards and pass along issues and bug reports.
