They do it because it is the norm for society. It is what society had "pushed onto" people. If they did not do it, they would be called "scrooge" or "Grinch" or they would not be considered to have the "Christmas Spirit".
Absolute faith has been shown, consistently, to breed intolerance. And intolerance, history teaches us, again and again, begets violence.
---------------------------------- The duty of a patriot in this time and place is to ask questions, to demand answers, to understand where our nation is headed and why. If the answers you get do not suit you, or if they frighten you, or if they anger you, it is your duty as a patriot to dissent. Freedom does not begin with blind acceptance and with a flag. Freedom begins when you say 'No.'

I played soccer in pickup games Peepa, otherwise my competitive endeavors were limited to showing horses, roping contests and rodeos. I paid for my living expenses in college with roping prize money. Television puts me to sleep under the best of circumstances. I can almost get thru a World Cup Soccer game if it's between teams I like, but watching a game like football, which I don't understand and which I have no interest in understanding is not something I have to endure in my own home, especially on a holiday. The constant din of a television in the background while you're trying to share stories and reconnect with seldom seen friends and family is just plain rude in my opinion, and I find the modern world's interest in professional sports troubling at best.

I ususally relocate things that I find troubling to the basement. That includes televised football games along with various and sundry other worthless gadgets and gifts.
Television has become nothing but noise pollution aimed at an audience of idiots.

Nothing personal bebe, I confess to watching "Ghost Whisper" AKA "Mostly Naked Woman with Boring Antique Store Butts into Other People's Business"
I also like Cold Case and just about anything on PBS.....
But a country that made "The Simpsons" and "reality" shows
hits needs to re-evaluate....

I'll admit to being hooked on Lost and that other new one, Invasion I think it's called anyhow it's the one about the post apocalypse that takes place in the little Kansas town... I like Simpsons too and King of the Hill,,, But that's about it, except for an occasional Thirsty Traveler and Antiques Roadshow. No sports though, thank you.

With you being in roping contests and rodeos,I am sure you can remember the rush you get when you do something right or near perfect, your in that zone when everything just comes together and your a Champion. That is way I asked if you played any sports. I feel bad for those that never competed and never feel that rush.
After moving around for a lot of years, I promised myself that I would never live in a place again where I can't get a pizza delivered or go to a Pro or College sporting event.
Don't get me wrong I think the country is great and beautiful but I am too dam old for it now.
