Wow, coming up on 1 1/2 hours of downtime. Looks like this one may merit a mention on CNN. Too bad I've got 15 auctions closing over the next hour. >

Still down 1 1/2 hours later. Is this a record? Luckily, I'd taken a break from launching listings (sanity issues!), so haven't lost $$$. But I had a few auctions that I wanted to BID on that closed during this period! BTW, I LOVE my international customers!!! Hello, Holland! (sweetfulfillment)

I really hate to say this, but I hope since they have been down for over an hour and 1/2 that they stay down until the two hours is up so we qualify for the outage policy. I have alot of auctions that are supposed to end in the next 1/2 hour to 1 1/2 hours and if they come back up now, I get didley and no views or snipes either.

My GUESS:

Ebay will decide to inform us that there is some availability---just before the 2 hour threshhold is reached--thus avoiding relist freebies or extended auctions.

P.S.
Hey, kathleenrock, 1 1/2 hours a record? Are you kidding? You must be quite new.

I have never been the same since the stock-price shattering outage of '99.

9 months after that, there was a population explosion.

The offical downtime is 11:34 PT. About 8 minutes to 2 hours.

If the engineers want to continue getting their bonuses for keeping the outages under 2 hours they better hurry.

The eBay site is unavailable as of 11:34 PT. We are working as quickly as possible to address the issues and will update you when we have more information.

OK...Here it is for all of you new sellers...

Hard Outage Policy
Our highest priority is your trading success. However, eBay occasionally experiences "hard outages" during which bidders cannot place bids. When these hard outages occur, we offer an Outage Policy to compensate for your inconvenience.
For any hard outage lasting two or more hours, eBay will automatically extend listings for 24 hours and automatically credit all associated fees for affected listings. The following listings will be eligible for extension and credit:

Any listing scheduled to end during the hard outage.

Any listing scheduled to end in the hour after the end of the hard outage.

What is a Hard Outage?

A hard outage occurs when no one can bid as a result of unscheduled system downtime. At our discretion, eBay may consider two hard outages that occur very closely to one another to be one hard outage when extending listings.

Listings that end prior to a hard outage will not be extended.

During a Hard Outage

Updates will be posted on the Announcements Board during a hard outage. Please check there for details about the outage and listing extensions.

When Listings are Extended

Following a hard outage of two or more hours, eBay will extend the end times for all eligible listings by 24 hours. This activity prevents bidding on these listings while the end times are being reset. After resetting listing end times, eBay updates search and listing indexes. Until these index updates are completed, these listings will be unavailable via search or view listings features. This re-indexing can take a few hours.

To End Your Listing

eBay offers the Outage Policy as a courtesy. However, you may be satisfied with the bidding activity before the extended listing end time. If you are, you may end your listing at any time at: EndingMyAuction

http://cgi3.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?

SCHEDULED DOWNTIME

eBay periodically schedules system downtime for maintenance and other purposes. This scheduled downtime is not covered by this policy. Listings that end during, or are otherwise affected by, scheduled downtime will not be extended, even though bidders are not able to place bids at the close of the listing.

Since eBay indicated the system was down as of 11:34 PT and it is now past 2 hours, it looks like the hard outage policy will go into effect.

It does appear that the Hard Outage policy will kick in now that 2 hours has passed.

But keep in mind that if the Hard Outage policy does kick in, (and this can, and has been in the past, open to interpretation by eBay), the *only* auctions that will be extended are auctions that were scheduled to end between 11:34 AM and up to one hour after the system goes back up.

So, for example, if the system goes back up at 5:00 PM PST all auctions ending between 11:34 AM and 6:00 PM will be extended. It you have an auction that closes at 6:01 PM or later it will *not* be extended.
