i have some comments.

in searching on ebay using the ebay userid you provided, i didn't find any feedback like what you said.

i did a copy paste so i wouldn't spell it wrong. i even tried the yahoo ones thinking those were good ebay ones. one did have some feedback, but a couple of years ago.

i just don't understand what i was doing wrong in my research. can you post a userid that matches the the person, situation, and feedback that you describe in the posts?

Jason:

You should have sent “payment” in an envelope with the end slit and a note, “Cash enclosed – thank you.”

my mistake.

since i saw this on the ebay board, i was only looking on ebay thinking that's where the seller must've been selling.

What amazes me is that people will do this and feel safe. I would not be worried about the law. I would be worried about people I have known who don't say ha ha ya got me, and go on with their life. They would come grab you by the neck and drag you away and your
body would never be found. Don't these people know there are fellows out there that you don't play games with? You take a big enough random sample you may find one.

Not advocating anything, but have you pulled this guy's contact info?

I did pull his contact info, I called the
number, and whoever answered the phone claimed to not be him.
I looked in the white pages, and sure enough, the phone number he lists on ebay is NOT his phone number, it belongs to someone else in his hometown.

I don't understand why Yahoo and Ebay don't put a quicker end to this, too many people get ripped off before anything is done about it.

It started off with me wanting my money back, which I still do, but now it is more. Now that I know he is sitting there with everyones money, laughing about it...I want him to pay for this.

I agree with gravid, I am surprised that we do not hear more about people getting back at or going after these kind of sellers, especially when there is a large amount of money in question.

Jason, I think (not 100% positive though) if your seller gave wrong contact info that is reason to have them kicked off eBay and I would assume Yahoo.

potvin, bogus contact information is a suspendable offense. I assume you've notified Safe Harbor?

Another thought is reporting him to his local police dept.

The other day I read a thread about someone, once again, getting ripped off by an unethical seller, and they emailed the guy's local sheriff and turns out some big time charges were being filed against this guy. I will try to find the thread.

I can't find it.

However, there is a site that is associated with the FBI where you can report internet fraud.

http://www.ifccfbi.gov/

No, actually, I haven't notified ebay SafeHarbor, because the auction wasn't on ebay...
But now that I think about it, that doesn't really matter...
But, I am not sure if he's doing anything on ebay right now, he used to buy things there, but I don't think he's currently doing anything there (at least not with the ID I have found for him).
Ok, I just notified safeharbor...
We'll see what happens now.

thanks

I did file a report there ifccfbi.gov.
I am not exactly sure what that will do though, I have heard nothing from them.

Anything is worth a shot though!

thanks

Jason,

You really should try to contact the police in his guy's home town. I wish I could find the thread I referred to earlier. The poster just emailed the police and told them what had happened and they took it from there.

Please don't forget to give us feedback on how it is going. If the guy starts listing scam items on Ebay, please let us know.

You may wish to post something similar over at the Yahoo board as well.

Good luck!

Contact his local police. Chances are very good that if someone is crooked on eBay then they are crooked off eBay and their police may well have them on a hot list and just need more evidence to build a case against them.

Quick Question For Anyone Who Can Answer...

Is there any online organization, geared for online fraudulent sellers, bidders, policies etc...

It seems to me at least that most of the organizations that we have to contact are either fraud offices based primarily on retail, mail order scams, or eBay and Yahoo etc. for online problems. Is there some nuetral organization that deals with only online scams?

I have not been scammed as of yet (knock on wood) but I keep getting more and more deadbeat bidders that just keep on changing their user ids. If eBay says they're not in the wrong that is the final word on the subject. It seems at least to me that it is eBay's interest not to admit there is even a problem. It also seems like when you do get ripped off you have to literally fight just to make others aware of them.

Is there an easier way?

Thanks in advance.

Riz

Want a really ugly scenario? Some jerk like this post false contact info. and some enraged buyer hurts the wrong person or vandalizes their house or car because it is listed as the sellers and they don't stay cool enough to do a good ID and use the cops.
