For my china and glass I think ebay's gallery helps to pull the customer to my auctions. The buyer can go down the item list w/ gallery on and see the item...might be enough to "wet" their appetite. Once they are in my auction they are prompted to look at my auctiva gallery to see the other items I am selling, including my books on my other id.
I love auctiva but it is only good once the customer has clicked on my auction...I still need something that will "pull them into the auction" and I think the ebay gallery does that.

Do any of you actually browse the eBay listings?
Great question!
My answer is:
No. Never. I don't have time to browse! I'm a "target" shopper. I know exactly what I'm looking for and I find it through a specific item search. Sellers who want my business better be able to spell!
I'd love to hear others' answers to this.

I, also, never browse using Ebay's Gallery. When I'm looking for something, I do a search, and just click on the results. I've never browsed through the gallery.

vargas; to browse or not to browse, I too am a target shopper, lately though I try to browse but it's very time consuming. Here's a good example of why I try, I love old figural plates, gilded etc. usually fairly pricey. My sister is the midnight browser she found a gorgeous one for me listed as "lovely decorative plate", when I see that I think of 'Made in China', not for food use that type of think. Turned out to be a gorgeous 12 inch plate with medallion portraits all around the edge, rs prussia, gilded really stunning, I picked it up for 25.00. I never would have found it with my 'target' shopping.

I think there are a lot of customers who browse the listings..especially the ending today and going going gone. Those are the ones I want to see my gallery pic...it might make my auction seem just a tad more interesting than just the title does.
I also try to write the auction title so it has the search keywords needed AND is interesting enough that it will catch the attention of the browsing shopper.

thanks all for your input,I will use ebay's gallery for some items, and see how the Activa showcase works out. I checked into changing my pics, but I usually only list 1 pic.I just lay the beads on the scanner and scan as most people know what they are looking for. Now for sellers being able to spell LOL, I know we all make mistakes, I know I do, especially when I am in a hurry...but I did alot of shopping this season and was scared away from alot of auctions as the seller could not spell.I am very leary of buying from a seller who can't spell his own item. Do they really know what it is, is the description accurate? I'll take a pass on that one! LOL

Amy ....... I think you hit the nail on the head.
To the rest of y'all ......... A couple weeks back an eBay employee [while discussing something totally unrelated] told me that according to eBay's stats ......... 65% of the buyers on eBay, use the Search feature. That leaves 35% that must be browsers.
I think you have to keep in mind that:
1. Sleepers are seldom found using Search. ie: many savvy bidders also browse.
2. Many of the new users only go to one or two of their favourite categories & browse the new listings.
3. In the past 2 years, due to numerous factors, MANY users simply shop the GGG listings.
In many of these cases, the eBay Gallery pic might just help bring them in to your auction?
Once they're in & looking, half the battle is over.
Also, as I've already stated earlier, for those that browse, or use the search, the Gallry icon can sometimes give you an extra open line in the listings.
In other words, even for those that are doing a search, it can help your items stand out in the crowd.

I started using goto to host some auctions & the auctiva gallery is on my auctions. Is goto & auctiva one & the same ?
I never signed up for auctiva. The gallery is nice to have no matter how I got it.

All I can say is that Ebay will not get my $.25 pe item I list for the gallery anymore. Auctiva is WONDERFUL......Thank you for letting me know it was even there. I had no idea. I spent over $300.00 last fiscal year on Ebay just listing items in the Gallery. And with their price increases this is a sure way to save $$$$$$$$
Thanks AGAIN and AGAIN

I agree with amy & reddeer about using the eBay gallery on higher end items--and yes, it would be a good way to draw people in to your listings. Perhaps it might not be a bad idea to just pick a couple of "choice" items each week to put in the eBay gallery--once you get people to look at those items, you can hope that they click on your Auctiva link.
I never browse the gallery, but as mentioned, some people do...
*typo!*

Actually, I use the gallery on all my listings, except books that are "plain jane" (nothing interesting about the exterior of the book..its just a rectangle of a single color).
If I were to limit it to just the higher priced items then the person who is looking for lower end items won't be drawn in to the auction...and if they don't click into the auction then they aren't going to know about the auctiva gallery..if they don't know about the auctiva gallery they can't click on it to see my other listings.
Different buyers find the items they buy in different ways. I feel I need to find a strategy that allows me to "bait the hook" with enough different bait that I will catch the attention of all the various buyer types who shop on ebay...kinda a "something for everyone". The ebay gallery is just one type of bait in my tackle box.

This is the link for my auction gallery.
I just started using it.. I love it!!
I tried the gallery activa has, I was sick of my computer freezing up every time I checked it out, made me wonder if the same thing was happening when bidders looked at it??
The pictures look horrible in it.
Check out my gallery, I think you will be impressed!

I use ebay's gallery for certain items...usually my "bestsellers," to draw folks in, and then they will hopefully check out my whole list.
I think the other, off-ebay, galleries look nice, but fail to see how they actually pull bidders in. You still need the bidder to click on that first auction.

I think some of you are missing an important point. Gallery images can be viewed by using the search feature on eBay. You don't have to "browse" the Gallery.
When I browse eBay, I always click the search link "All items including Gallery preview." Gallery auctions have much more draw than non-Gallery.

Since I cut WAY back on "gallery" feature on ebay almost two months ago, I am not having any less hits. The ONLY difference is that I have saved quite a bit of money the last two months!
Thanks to everyone for all your help and ideas here on the board! It's a great community!

I guess "search sellers other auctions" serves the same purpose for browsing all my auctions, and it doesn't cost me a dime extra.
