"However, once one of these two folks had ideas that differed from the other, they were kicked, banned and told they were not wanted, not wanted in a venture that hadn't even been defined yet. So much for the exchange of ideas."
You are most correct, KerryAnn!
Many who wanted to help were banned. If there must be a centeralized board, it must NOT be the board run by TwinSoft.

I don't know?
I am going to take a day off from posting from AW. The numbers of folks who are interested seem to email me more than they post on AW.
I'd love to see some concrete suggestions how certain people would move forward on building the co-op.
Frankly if this group can't get itself together soon it won't happen folks.
We don't have a year to put this together. There has been plenty of time for talking. Now is the time for doing. Even if we started tomorrow we're still a minimum of six months to getting a functioning alternative site up of good quality.
Certain people are going to have to ask themselves if they want a co-op or not and you all know who you are.

Be VERY careful, KerryAnn!
If you continue to post the truth, as you have just done, a certain user will go to the Moderator's Corner and make false and public accusations against you.
This user has censored and banned users from the co-op board, and now seeks to do the same here.
Let us all hope the truth remains in front of our eyes.

Just a quick interjection: there's another beast besides for-profit corporation and non-profit corporation, which I haven't seen mentioned...a "not-for-profit corporation". It is my understanding that the hoops you have to jump through for NFP status aren't nearly as bad as they are for non-profit status, and NFP still has tax benefits vs. for-profit.

Best of luck, folks.

Thanks Gaffan, do you have any more info regarding this? I've heard of it and we are trying to get some legal help.
I don't think what the co-op concept is would be akin to recreating the wheel! We just at some point will need to legally define what we're doing so that it fits into whatever the IRS and governments find acceptable.

Sorry I can't add much more... I'm sure whatever pros you bring in will offer it up as a possibility, if appropriate (and I can't think of why it wouldn't be). One organization I used to be involved in outgrew being an informal club, and the folks who picked up the ball found, as noted above, that NFP was a lot easier to establish and maintain than NP; less ongoing paperwork, more freedom in what happens to money. And it's not just for smaller organizations; one of the fairly substantial government contractors headquartered here, Mitre, is not-for-profit and has been since inception.
