toke: Great advice!

I am using 2.53, and it will NOT get email addy's no matter WHAT I do.

I won't upgrade until I hear that I won't lose my lifetime (now down to 448 days)

Hi Pocono...

That's weird you're having the email problem and I'm not. I've probably just jinxed myself...heh.

Have you tried going into "My eBay" and changing your sign-in preferences? I didn't bother with the eBud bookmark...just went directly to eBay.

I checked ALL the boxes for remembering passwords, but most importantly I checked the "Display email address when viewing User ID" box.

Wouldn't hurt to look and make sure you have that done...

Well, nuts. You've just seen my entire store of knowledge. I can't imagine why our programs are working differently. Course, I don't even understand why my computer works...

Toke...LMAO

I DO know exactly why and how your computer works, and STILL don't know why your eBud works and mine doesn't

I've just recently upgraded to 2.60 from 2.53. I too was leery of the upgrade due to the license expiration. I still have 448 days.

FWIW, I posted an inquiry to eBud, or whatever they're calling themselves, after I too lost over a months worth of auctions after the upgrade.

Here was the confusing response:

Ok, you where doing backups with the old eBud and now the Auctiva Manager 2.60 did not restore it ? Do this Do a search for ebudbackup.dat file I am guessing it will find several and look for the one with the largest ‘size‘ and see if the date seems to be for the last day or so. Copy that file to the C:\Program Files\Auctiva\Auctiva Manager folder and then try the restore again. Just be sure to be safe here. I usually move a copy of these files, the dat files to a safe folder on my PC so I can always get them back!! Also, below is more ( we are hating eBay changes about now :x ) Please check our Bulletins & Updates page for some details that should fix the problem you‘re seeing. Be sure to check the Setup> Preferences information below It is due to some recent eBay changes as you may be aware of reguarding email addresses/ http://www.auctiva.com/help/apupdates.asp

Now let me tell you what did work! I simply copied the backup.dat file located in the old eBud folder and replaced the backup.dat in the Auctiva folder. I then restored backup under tools. Problems were then solved.

And Auctiva folks who read this, add yet another customer who wants the simple eBud program back and could care less about Auction Poster.

But if they don't keep adding new "features", they'll have a much harder time justifying their $150/year charge to "rent" their program.

I searched out all my backupdata, when I click onto it I get a empty netscape window and the question to "open file" or "save file" with either one it downloads something real fast and the netscape window remains blank.

Other data backups that are in these files that have the notepad icon are EMPTY

I have got eBud programs all over this computer. I was doing a search and found a 1.75 program, and the one I was using before I upgraded to 2.60B was 2.20.

This is rediculous, I wish I new what I could safely eliminate. I have a half a mind to delete it ALL.

ARRRRGGGG!

Hi mrpotatoheadd...

You think?

I already have an ad program that I really like. I sure don't want to clog up my hard drive with programs I don't want and will never use.

Hi to you, too, toke-

I took a week off from listing, and now, I'm not sure what to expect when I fire up eBud again. I don't know what the folks at Auctiva are planning, but from the email response I received to my concerns about their "new and improved" pricing policy (they essentially said that if I wasn't a serious seller, I should take care not to let the door hit me in the a$$ on the way out) I'm clear about one thing- eBud (or whatever its name is going to be in its latest incarnation- I'm sure it will have to sound more hi-tech) is not going to be in my future.

I sure don't want to clog up my hard drive with programs I don't want and will never use.

I hear you. Pity the software writers are deaf to the plea.

MrP...

I understand. I just purely hate to give up on eBud...though I may have to. It's my favorite program. I've put up with all their glitches (in fact you've helped me with a couple...remember? ) because it makes dealing with my auctions an actual pleasure. Could I be addicted?? Some kind of subliminal message lurking in my Little Bud??

I hope they don't make it impossible for me to continue with them. Too much money &/or forcing programs on me that I don't want, might finally do it.

toke-

I hope they don't make it impossible for me to continue with them.

I'm afraid they've already done that for me. I was not exactly overjoyed when they made the announcement some time back that there was going to be a yearly fee of around $40, once the two years they gave us (those who thought they had already paid for the program) ran out, but I would have stayed with them for that amount. With a year or so to go, the price is now up to around $150 per year. Who knows where it will be next year?

I've been playing around with AuctionAmigo, and may just go that way, since they are claiming on their website that they are not going in the direction of subscription pricing. Will that claim hold up? Who knows? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks Toke for the great advice. On the tracking license end, I have 486 days, so I emailed support at Auctiva. Like many I don't need the other products, but really like ebud(now auctiva manager) Here is what I asked and their answer.

Dear Support,

I‘m inquiring about my tracking license that I purchased for use with ebud a year ago and how it plays a part in Auctiva and where I stand? I have 486 days left before expiration on 6/26/02. Will I continue to be able to download updates for eBud (auctiva manager)during that time period? Or do I have to purchase the new product, auctiva manager, when I update to 2.61?

Thanks for your help

Customer Support's answer:

<<<Hi,

You can keep using the new Auctiva Manager versions. You dont have to upgrade.

If you did upgrade we‘d credit you 50% time for ePoster and 50% for eBud. So you‘d get a lot of months of Pro. We‘re hoping the new showcase pro and web based scheduling listing form and Auctiva Poster will make it worth your while to upgrade. You can always upgrade down the road though too.

Thanks,

Support
Tom T.>>>

So, I'm taking it as Auctiva is honoring our days left with the ebud tracking license. Maybe I'm reading between the lines?

They say that we will be able to download the Auctiva Manager (Ebud) updates??

I can not find a download area for updating only that particular program.

It appears that you are forced to download the whole package of programs (PRO) in order to get the Auctiva Manager Software.

Can anyone tell me where to get an upgrade without downloading the posting software and the other programs included that I do not need????

aroundtheworld...

You're welcome Thanks for posting that Support email.

It IS confusing. There are no new stand alone AuctionManager upgrades. Only the 2.60 PowerTools, which combines eManager (eBud) with ePoster. God only knows what they're talking about.

Hi packer...

That's where I've been. There's no upgrade past 2.53 for AuctionManager alone...you have to do PowerTools.

The link above gets you:

Auctiva PowerTools (Auctiva Poster + Auctiva Manager)

Auctiva Poster (ePoster)
Auctiva's listing-creation and posting software helps you create professional-quality listings in less time.

Auctiva Manager (eBud)
Auctiva's tracking, transaction management and contact management software lets you monitor your listings and close your auctions more quickly.

Plus all the other benefits of Auctiva Pro!

******

Kind of like upgrading your bottle opener to SwissArmyKnife 2.6, which includes 37 nifty semi-functional gizmos (in addition to being able to open your beer bottles) that you neither want or need. Such a deal!

Hi Toke,

Go Here:

Yes, you have to download both poster & manager.

Unless they have fixed it since yesterday.
Poster was 2.60 version and Manager was still 2.60B version.

I agree, I do not want poster because I haven't a clue as to what it is suppose to do.

Somewhere when after you download, it says you can download one or the other or both.
NOT so. Poster comes first and if you cancel that download you cancel everything.
So I'm sure how your suppose to just get to the manager part of the program.

*heavy sigh*

I understand that John the Wondrous and Magnificent still works for Auctiva. I know he's a superb programmer...but...

Wouldn't he be great as their PR guy? I swear he practically taught me how to use my computer...not just eBud. If he could explain things so even I could understand...a mere couple of months after I got my first computer...surely all this upgrade stuff would be a piece of cake for him.

Never once was he anything but kind and patient. Never once did he give me the wrong info. Never once did he pretend to have an answer, when he didn't. Never once did he piss me off.

Friendly, quality communication is a must for them, if they want their company to thrive, and avoid alienating their customers.

I, too, remember the good old days when John answered our questions in minutes and was always polite and helpful. When I first heard about the new subscription program, I wrote a note to Auctiva and told them how unhappy I was about the changes.

Some smart a$$ VP answered that any business would be happy to pay about $.35 a day for a program that worked so well. Also claimed they answered all emails and questions. HAH!! We know non of that is true don't we?

He did, however, inform me that with eBay's new fees to access their code, that only Auctiva, Blackthorne and AW could possibly survive. Made it sound like a threat--like I should fork over the dough quick before I had no other alternatives.

I don't begrudge John a more regular work schedule and any profits he has made but I bet he isn't very happy about the changes either. Oh for the good old days!!

I don't have a big problem with paying a little more for eBud, but I do NOT want to pay for the poster part of their software EVER!!

I have been trying to upgrade and am having problems in that I am not getting any credit for ebud which I bought before it was aquired by auctiva but am getting credit for my posting days left in eposter. My problem is I am getting very upset having to wait for tech support answers it takes forever and with the new pricing for there programs they should have a much quicker response time then 48 hours or more. I even tried calling them but only get mailboxes even for the operator. With as much money as they are going to charge per year they should have a live tech support.

I don't find ebud in my program files but when I did a simple file search of "ebud" everything came up and I created a shortcut from the main folder and now that's on my desktop. I'm running 2.53 with no problems except for the email deal and I've adjusted all settings with ebay.

By the way it's been almost 48 hours since my posting to ebud tech support and no response nor have I seen the new fix on their homepage. Amazing they're not at least looking at this thread and responding here.
It'd sure look good at this point...

I see that there is an upgrade to ebud but I am still having trouble and can't upgrade. I have tried to resolve this problem with tech support but have had no luck I have now been waiting for 5 days to get this problem resolved. Is anyone from this company out there?????
I'm sorry but for the amount of money they want to charge this is ridiculous! Ebud if you are out there something needs to be done about your customer service and tech support 5 days is way to long to wait for help, each day I have to wait on your techs to get back to me costs me money in lost time, as far as I can see right now your tech support and customer service is completely inefficient, inadequate and soon to be unacceptable.

Well, I solved all my eBud problems, in one easy down load when my "Life Time" eBud program because a "license." I downloaded AuctionTamer, and not only do I prefer it to eBud, but it works with many other auctions, AND has fast, concerned support. AuctionTamer solved my eBud problems.
