More Bidders with severe consequences for non-payment or harassment. Having a good credit card is not much of an inidcator of whether or not a person will honor obligations.

Well let's do the math. I currently list 100-150 auctions per month with sales in the $2000-$3000 range; we'll calculate using the low end. Option A- $.50 x 100 listings = $50.00. Option B- $.10 x 100 plus .04 x $2000 is $10.00 plus $80.00= $90.00. And that's LOW end!
Option A- Duh!

A, thats how it was when "vintage" ebay was a vibrant, exiting and fun place to trade, though I'm not making a hard connection of that aspect with its success at that time. When the neighborhood grew and all the grifters saw the potential easy marks it surely became necessary to find some solution. I don't know if CC verification helped or not. Bare in mind that now that all those crooks have had a taste of the easy online marks, I'm sure they're circling the skies in cyberspace looking for a ripe, unprotected place to roost. Especially now that many have been booted from ebay 2,3,4 and more times.
I always wondered if there would be a way to verify a seller at a new site by their feedback and previous activity on other sites. Not by standard means (like CC verif.)that have no real corollation to online interaction and conduct. Perhaps offer an incentive of some sort to "qualified" prescreened sellers (or buyers). In my mind, power seller status should have much less to do with $$ volume and more to do with customer satisfaction.
I have no CC registered at ebay, nor am I verified. I'm grandfathered in under the old rules. I have a moderately high feedback with no negs or neutrals, and yes I ALWAYS leave a neg. when it is earned. If ebay forced me to verify, or insisted on a CC, they would lose a very good seller (representative), exactly the kind that they are trying to keep (itegrity wise, that is, $ wise I'm not sure).
Reddeer, Thanks BTW, actually, the only line in my post inspired by your comment, but not really directed at you personally, was the one about...Since when does ebay have to heed a post...etc. The rest was for, well...others. I don't doubt I'll be skewered by your sharp tongue someday, and I'll likely deserve it!
Edited to add, this is in answer to QUESTION # 2.
This thread might get confusing!

I'm going to ask AW how to handle the different question issue. From what I've seen they probably don't want too many threads! You can also post your answers on our site.
with regard to question of the day #1, it seems that most sellers of high $$$ merchandise are largely going to be in favor of having a minimal listing fee, and sellers of low dollar merchandise are going to be in favor of having a minimal FVF. What you need is a compromise between the 2 that will attract BOTH types of sellers to the marketplace.
With regards to question #2- I would rather have more bidders and no CC verification. credit card verification of buyers is pretty useless in my opinion. I have my share of deadbeats on both ebay & yahoo even with the majority being CC verified. I really don't know if CC verification helps cut down seller fraud, but I am sure there are folks here more knowledgeable than I am in that area.
