Here is the batch file that I use which really cleans everything.I have this in my autoexec.bat so it loads automatically every time I start my computer. It works like a charm. BTW, this is really for IE users.

Thanks so much for all your help over the past week, one day soon I'll have a lean mean fightin machine just like you.

reddeer, I'm not sure if it'll work for Netscape users but I am sure that I don't want to chance it. LOL

I love a lean, mean machine and you're a fast study. The next step is your favorite word: DOS and I am very determined!!

reddeer...

While reading up on all the great info you gave me...guess what I found?

With one click in Norton Internet Sweep, I can at least remove all my temp. internet files. I checked and they're really gone.

Sheesh...I need to spend some more time with all those system tools I bought...and USE them...

Also, I had no idea my system was saving all my GIANT screenshots as .bmp files...got rid of those puppies! I've cleaned out over 100mg on my weensie hard drive...thanks!

oops...1000 is a lot bigger than 100

Good news Toke, but thank Blanche, she's the brains of this operation.

toke, you're very welcome. I was totally surprised to find so much useless junk taking up valuable space on my hard drive. Nuking is the way to go.

Neil, unfortunately, it's not my brain because I just "borrowed" the ideas from other folks on the net who have the real brain power. That's the great part about the WWW, there's so much info out there. All I did was find it!! But thanks for the kudos anyway.

You are quite right. Virtually every 2 bit programmer thinks his piece of junkware has the right to monopolize not only your system resources, but to flood your registry as well.

I either try to avoid software that loads at bootup, or use MSCONFIG to prevent it from doing so. I then create a link for when I need it. The latest bit of insanity was EZCD Creator 5.0, that tried to load a bunch of garbage at bootup that I quickly disabled. Dunno why anyone woould want a burning software running resident!

The resident programs I do use are bare necessities. Like ZONEALARM as my firewall.
Proxomitron as my web filter. WATERFALL as my CPU idler. POPAWAY for those annoying Pop-ups that Proxomitron don't catch. Agent Task Monitor to maintain newsgroup downloads. And RTVReco as my button pusher. Most of these have fairly modest resource needs. About half are freeware.

Even many of these programs are pigs compared to what they do. Probably most programs these days are written in sloppy RAD platforms like Visual Basic. Gone are the days of compact assembler coding.

The registry is the real problem since some programs refuse to run if it is too large, and everything seems to do its best to bloat it. Now and then I go on a hunting expedition and kill apps that look like they are taking up too much of their fair share of it. And then I'll run a registry 'shrinking' program to reduce the size. Need a real good one though. NutsNBolts has some deficiences in this function...

In short, I'm looking for the day when Linux will recognize all my hardware and I can kiss the Wintel platform goodbye, except for games, which is the only thing it is really good for...

I just visited the site.

Encrypt and overwrite your web surfing tracks 21 times (or more) so that no one can undelete or recover your web tracks!

I don't see the point to this. I guess it would be useful if you were a criminal.

"BOSS KEY" feature will immediately hide all web browser windows w/ the press of a Key!

Installing this program on an office PC would be a dead giveaway as to what you were up to.
