Well, even though this situation is resolved, I'm gonna make a suggestion.
Give them a date!

Maybe I should explain.
When they tell you "the check is in the mail", simply reply "Oh wonderful, glad to hear it as I have scheduled this to be relisted on May 3rd. As long as I receive your payment by then I will cancel the relist." I give them a week so they can still drop it in the mail if they haven't already done so. If, on the other hand, they blow it off, you have a clear conscience to relist.
