You know it's bad when you go to take a shower and you have to remove a huge bag of peanuts.

I had a conversation with the hubby just an hour ago ~ He started the converstaion with, "Look Fred Sanford, we need to talk." I hate when we have those conversations.......it means that my ebay stuff has left it's appointed boundaries and must be recontained............and I am not going to hear the end of it until it is.......he knows that I love doing this, and he likes the money........he would love it to be housed somewhere else, but it just won't work~ I have thought about it 100 times. Through trial and error, I have found what works most of the time, and am still working on it. My problem is that two of the thrift stores sells surprise boxes ~ all you know is that the box say has toys, or kids clothing etc. These sell $2.00 for a small box and $5.00 for a big box.......except when they are overrun with stuff............then I can get a big box for say $1.25 most of the time ~ as long as I take 20 boxes. It is a great deal ~ happens about twice a month ~ only I had surgery a few weeks ago and got a 20 box lot before and after surgery in my garage.......this is how it got away from me ~ I was sick for 3 weeks before the surgery which was 3 weeks ago.......I am not yet back at full speed.........and I have stuff everywhere trying to sort the stuff out.

He was really nice, but concerned that I brought another pick up full of stuff in yesterday from garage sales.......how would I ever get caught up if I kept buying stuff....well he has a point......but this is prime garage sale season and I must get the stuff when I can..........

I have not been throgh 35 of the boxes ~ out of which I have hauled 10 boxes of pure junk away from here and consolidated like items etc in most of the remainder ~ I am close to getting the SUV back in the garage.

My husband knows I love Ebay......and he also knows it pays some of the bills. We sat down and agreed to some things a while back in order to keep the peace. In general it works well ~ for him anyway.

1. The Livingroom may have no more than the basket that I am working on in it ~ and only then because that is where the computer is.

2. The diningroom is limited to cloth bags full of kids clothing up for auctions hanging from the diningroom chairs ~ these are to be removed from the chairs when we know we are having company of any kind and temp. stored in the garage until the company is gone.

3. The kitchen is limited to the same work basket that can be in the livingroom. I take the pictures in the kitchen and take the basket to the computer to write the auctions.

4. The laundry room is fair game for ebay....he does not know how to turn the washer on, so as long as the door is closed..nobody goes in there but me.

5. The two car garage must house my SUV ~ mind you this is his rule, not mine ~ his truck now stays in the driveway ~

6. No ebay stuff in the kids rooms ~

7. No ebay stuff in our bedroom ~ but my closet is fair game.

8. I have one room with a private bath that is free game, unless there is spend the night company ~ which happens pretty often ~ so I have given up and don't keep much there because I am tired of having to move it out of there for someone to have a bed.

9. My husband says the kids playroom and the back porch are fair game.........but duh.....the kids play with and loose parts etc to anything in their playroom, even if they are in boxes, or storage bins ~ and the same goes for the back porch.

In other words it stays in one bay of the garage (along with the lawnmower and 3 power wheels jeeps) and the laundry room. I have become an expert at storage......the key to the whole thing is shelving and storage bins......and I love clear plastic bags! ~ that way the playsets stay together and can then be stored in the bins.

If it were not for the "Fred Sanford" talks......the whole house would be overtaken. We entertain a lot and have lots of company ~ and it was so embarassing before I got a handle on things......

If I had a basement...........it would have my ebay stuff in it instead of my mother in law! Actually my mother lives with us, but she just has a bedroom.

Well - it is clear that I am not the only using the bathrooms for storage

By the way, I find desks not good for ebay. Instead, built a desk covering two walls of the room. Underneath is all filing cabinets and shelving. On top, all bookcases. Maximum room for storage.

Congratulations!!! I am glad to hear you have an ebay house. I have been selling for over 4 years and am driving the cadillac I bought from my Sanford & Son junk house. Sounds to me like laptop is a bit on the jealous side. I would rather be selling on ebay than going to a "REAL" job any day of the week. It is nice to be able to take a day off when I want to instead of when my BOSS wants me too! It is also nice to know that my job will not phased out when the next lay-off comes along. My husband and I have so much ebay stuff that we now own 2 houses - one for the ebay stuff and one for us - so be careful your stuff could take over your whole house! I don't sell junk either. One man's (or woman's) junk is another's treasure - keep collecting!

This evening we have an eBay car! This morning I went to a new import store and casually asked if they had any bubble wrap they were throwing away. Well, he gave me a large box of it--then said their dumpster out back was full of bubble wrap, which I was welcome to if I could reach it. I didn't dream he really meant "full." The dumpster was full to the brim (to my eyebrows) with bubble wrap--the big fat kind--and I filled our Forester's back seat and trunk with it, had to mash down a little to see out the back. It's so cute--my husband says we have the only car with rear-seat airbags. Now to clear out a space in the house to put the stuff!

I have an eBay house, too --

The kitchen is where I drop the bags off when I first come home - not too long there or hubby will kill me!

I limit the dining room to just two stacking areas - neither of which can be seen from the front door.

The playroom is for the kids - anything that goes in there they claim so I may as well stay out.

The living room is full of Thomas stuff - forced me to pull the eBay stuff out of there.

The cellar is another story. Please let's hope no one has to go down there - we would have to send out a search and rescue crew! Of course, most of it I now store in plastic stackable boxes. Grab one and list -

Oh, I have a building that houses two of my businesses - we just put on a huge addition. Wanna guess what is in it?

Now if I would just stay out of these discussion boards I could actually get some stuff listed!

Happy eBaying, all!

What a Day!

We went out and bought 3 packs of 5 shelve units 24" wide. We bought pipe to built a double rod in the spare bedroom. The spare bedroom will no longer be. It will be all ebay stuff. Sorry, no overnight guest! No, I would put my two girls together and they could have the other girls room.

Plan - Garage Sale May 18-19 bedroom furniture - goes, small freezer in garage - goes (we have a large one too). Kids clothes that is too small or they don't like - goes. The junk - goes.

I have moved all the ebay stuff out of the spare room tonight. Had to move the clothes out of the garage, to make room for the furniture to go until the sale. Tomorrow, the project start - moving the furniture, putting up the shelves, builting the double rod. Then I have to move on the clothing from the front room up stairs to the new ebay room. Step two will be another single rod along the other wall. To hang all the long dress and such.

I RARELY have the TV on. I just can not write descriptions fast enough. I can usually write 20 a day. That includes photo's cropping, listing.

My goal for Monday is 25 items up and a trip to the hardware store (need one more thing for the rods) and Oh Yeah my kids need shoe - so a trip to payless.

That is a start. And the garage sale will get rid of allot of "non-ebay" items to clear up room for ebay items!

I too do not have a normal desk. I have an 8" table with two computers a phone, and a scanner. The printer is on top of the 4draw file cabinet at the end of the table.

Great Thread---Today I bought shelving for my ebay room and I sure hope that helps. My husband is rather irate but then again he always is. He doesn't understand. I think instead of ebay it's the thrift stores that I like to visit to see their treasures and I usually find one or two well rather a whole bunch. I just can't believe what people throw away. I also think I just love to see my husband get mad I guess you might say it is my way to get even.

Now I have more stuff than the shop will hold...still have 2 bedrooms and garage full of stuff...

Need to expand! I sell resale items during the day...AND on ebay as well...so when no one is in my shop I'm listing items on ebay...killing 2 birds with 1 stone..haha..

Am I happy????YEP...having a great time!

I have an eBay house too, and an eBay car. The two computers and desks are in the living room. The dining room has two double tiered racks for hanging clothing that is on auction. There is also a mobile rack that doesn't move well that holds some of the longer items. And there is a mobile rack for items we are going to picture. The dining table is covered with auction items and there are several plastic tubs full of items.
The second bedroom is completely full of items. The area around my computer is full of stuff that I am going to fix as well as boxes of stuff that have been combined and are waiting for payment. This is complicated by the paperwork from my part time other job that I do at my desk as well.
The eBay car (Toyota Tercel wagon) is always full of the priority mail boxes that I order to ship all this stuff out in.
However, I must say that I have not stooped to storing items in the bathrooms yet. If it comes to that, we're out of this small apartment and into something bigger.

Guess I'm really luck then - I only have 1/2 of an Ebay room so far - but then Trading Cards and Plush toys don't take up a lot of room. *smile*

I have my storage boxes clearly labled on a series of shelves in the closet of the 3rd bedroom, which is our computer room. I have the plushes in plastic bags on hangers on the rack in the closet - one of inventory unlisted, one for listed w/o bids, one for listed w/bids and one for sold and undelivered yet.

Another series of shelves stores my packaging supplies - bubble mailers and boxes.

I have a REALLY nice desk with lots of desktop space, and shelves above and below. This is where I store the office supplies, tape, address labels, stamps, and my currently listed cards (one box for those with bids, and one box for those without bids).

Closed but unpaid for items are in envelopes filed in an old envelope box on one of my shelves (reuse, recycle BIG believer in that). I've got my system down pretty good now for my volume of stuff - I think I'd scare the family if I started leaking out of the computer room though.. *smile*

What great stories...Fun reading. Now, even though I have this HUGE office, I am getting inspired to put up more shelving to neaten things up and get the rest of the stuff out of my car. Worked this weekend on the garage and found a bunch more cool stuff to sell.

Keep 'em coming! It's great to hear everyone's "ebay house" stories!

This is a great thread. One of the reasons that even though the fees drove me from AW, I still check the messages. However Laptop just proves that there are still very rude and insulting people haunting the area. Ebay has taken two bedrooms and my medical billing has taken over the living room. The grandkids toys have taken over the rest of the house. Guess what, doesnt bother me at all.

I have to laugh. I'm glad to know that my husband is not the only husband that hates the "stuff", but likes the money. He used to grump, until I told him a couple of summers ago who was paying for our vacation!!

I go to a lot of auctions and am always on the look-out for shelving or tables. I even bought a huge ping pong table that will replace a smaller table I use in the basement. I'm fairly well organized in my den, my daughter's room (she has left the nest), the basement and sometimes in my dining room. However, there is always a piece that I can't seem to find after I find out someone bid on it. I have to calm myself, try not to panic and then go through all my stash methodically.

So, congratulations and welcome to the fray!

Re: having to go hunting for an item after finding someone to buy it

I had someone purchase one of the handmade doll outfits that I made - but I couldn't find it! It disappeared during my move into a new bigger apartment - and it has YET to show up. I ended up making her a new one - but its frustrating to know that darn little thing is around here SOMEWHERE.... and I can't find it.

I now am very careful to put everything that is listed in the closet so I can at least narrow down my search area should it get purchased.

Our family room and never-used dining room are devoted to eBay. I also have a 10 x 20 storage unit that has a phone line installed, workbenches, plenty o' shelving, etc., so I can work from there. But I'd rather work from home as the cable modem is here and I can get other chores done.

Don't often post here, but today for the first time EVER I have more than 400 open auctions...all listed by hand. Business is fantastic. I'm going to take a long soak in the jacuzzi to celebrate.

I started out on ebay by unpacking things I had left boxed up from family estates. My two grandmothers, my great aunt and my Dad. Then I got the 'bug' and started hitting estate sales and yard sales. Then I found a cross-stitch shop closing it's doors (then another one and then another one!) .. needless to say that more than filled 1/2 the attached barn/garage plus the entire 'guest room' which now has floor to ceiling metal shelving.

THEN .. an upscale girls clothing manufacturer in the area went out of business .. like RichieRich I had to strike while the iron was hot! So .. three or four weeks ago I dragged more than 160 dresses and Christening gowns into the house in boxes! Oops .. almost forgot the 8 bolts of fabric .. 84" high .. some have 60+ yards on them. I'm hoping that when people notice the fabric, they'll assume "I" made all these stunning dresses (HA!)

Garment racks arriving tomorrow! Thank God!! One double one for the ebay/guestless room and a 36" 'portable closet' type one for the living room where I photograph. These are mostly white dresses and I have a long-haired black dog! (HUGE SIGH)

HUGE yard sale coming up in about 2 weeks! Glass, pottery, etc ALL going. I have enough special occasion dresses to sell for a year and enough cross stitch items to sell for 2 years!

It is embarrasing when people 'pop' in BUT I have enough money now to recover my huge sectional!! Of course, you can't even see it .. it's covered with boxes of dresses .. but it's gonna look great!

ANYONE SEEN MY CAR KEYS? They've been missing since the day the dresses came into the house so I can only assume they're in one of the boxes.

I could go on but you get the idea!

For two weeks the first thing the Ol' Woman and I did every morning was move eBay junk from the kitchen to the porch before we could fix breakfast. The last thing every night was move it back inside. My favorite clock is still on the wrong time because I can't get close enough to change it and I can't recall the last time we sat on the couch. When the kids come for a visit they bring a blow-up mattress, there old bedrooms are filled with eBay junk now. At least the stack in front of the tv is moved so I can watch the news again. I gotta go list something.

Oh, how I would love an ebay house! We just started a year ago, and my husband and I both work full-time. Fortunately I'm a visiting nurse, so I can rummage and stop at the Goodwill (where everyone now knows me by name - along with 5 or 6 other regulars) a couple times a day. It's still not enough to get a real good inventory going though. We have a sunroom that I put bookshelves in. I do mostly videos because the Goodwill here sells them for 49 cents. I buy all that I can. Thankfully they don't take up that much space. My friend peeked her head in that room the other day and made a comment about all the "stuff". I told her that most of it was sold and I'm just waiting payment. Her comment was "you should stop buying more stuff until people send in their payments" Yeah, right, she just doesn't get it.... there's nothing the ebay community, and to whoever made the comment that it's an addiction...you betcha. When you make the detour from the bathroom in the middle of the night to "refresh" your auctions, yeah, it's an addiction. I was at Goodwill one Saturday with my husband and he found something that he thought we should get (I can't even remember what it was anymore). I said "I don't think that will sell very well". He said "no, I was thinking for our house" You get in that selling mode, and forget to buy stuff for yourself too! On a more serious side, I see posts here all the time from people who are trying to launch 200+ auctions in a night and are getting error messages and I feel jealous. I haven't quite figured out yet where people can find the inventory that would make them be able to list 200+ auctions in one day! Where is everyone finding the stuff!? (and the time). I can average about 10 a day..by the time I scan, or take pictures etc. etc. that's all I can handle. I figured they must have the same things that they relist...where do you find your inventory? (or is it a secret ).

I know how you feel. That is how I felt back about a year and a half ago when I read a similiar thread like this. I was jealous, and thought I wish I had there problems. Well, I worked on ebay since 10/99 and March 2001 I quit my full time nice paying job to do it full time. In April I more then doubled (profit) what I would have been paid.

I only wish I could write & take pictures faster. I can not imagine how a 1 or 2 person operation can list 200+ auctions. I am lucky to get 20 a day.

I have a good source of inventory for know which is why I can no longer see my front room. I got about 200 more items today! When the price is right you have to buy, buy and buy!

The problem is I had to clear out the garage to put what use to be the guest room furniture in. The shelves are now up! The first double rack goes up on Wednesday!
Thursday & Friday is normally my shopping days but I am going to try and stay home.

I buy new stuff. So I quit wasting my time a garage sales. Today, well shopping I seen another ebay seller I am sure. She even used a PayPal credit card to buy her stuff. The place was packed cuz the prices were so cheap!

The pile in the front room is now about 4' high. All new with tags plus size clothing.

I am getting organized, I am, I am, I am.

When I have my garage sale May 18th I get rid of the junk from when I sold used clothing.

I am have happy to have an ebay house!!!!! But I need to get much faster at typing those damn descriptions!

I love this thread, and so glad to find I am not alone in my "eBay-on - line sales" house! I must say, my husband doesn't complain because he long ago realized the future of the internet, and because we are self-employed, he has taken over some aspects of one of our web sites, because it just got to be more than one persons (me) could handle.

Where else can you work full time, and arrive at work in your P.J's, or underwear, reach down and pet a doggie during the day, etc. etc., I LOVE it and have for years.

I recall 4 years ago, we had 2 retail shops, and I did eBay and such on the "side." Finally, we got so busy with auction sales, and our 1st web site, that I didn't have time to handle both it and one of the shops, and we opted to close the shop I managed. It was a wise move, because today, and because of our work and believe in the future of the internet, our on line sales, (eBay, Yahoo, and 2 web sites) exceed our retail store and its 6,000 sq. feet of product!

PTL for an internet house. I can’t really relegate it to just eBay – actually before eBay existed I was selling via the collectible area on Prodigy and via Usenet Newsgroups (what a pain), and then eBay – then web sites – now we use eBay, and many other auction sites, PLUS have 2 major web sites. LOVE IT!

I am proud to be the owner and operator of a successful ebay business~congrats to RICHIE, all of us who make profits in this very competitive market~~I put in approx. 50hr + a week~ The good news is my 3 bedroom ebay house will soon became a 6 bedroom EBAY HOUSE WITH A 3 car garage, and a 25' x 29' EBAY office~profits of three years of hard work, so LAPTOPPER, if you think that came from NOT HAVING A REAL JOB~go get yourself a real PC and try it..a laptop won't WORK~too slow.
I do however use one when I am on vacation~I have no time away from my~not real job..I guess.

and please remember~its STUFF, not junk~it's VINTAGE not old and it's MEMORIES, Not Clutter~

Oh my...Do you all have cameras in my house?! Can you see through my monitor?! My daughter made the mistake of going to camp during one of the most fertile buying seasons I've had in a while. Got home yesterday and couldn't open her bedroom door! My mom...in the basement, too...now shares her closet and bookcases with my auction stuff. We have a family room...at least I think we did...For people like "laptapper" who think we are all slovenly and lazy, I can say it is "clean junk", my family lives in sanitary conditions, and that unless they trip over it, have it fall on them, or must climb around it, my family has learned to make a joke of my eccentricity. I'd also like to note that people like "laptopper", at least in my life, are the ones who as they are saying..."Oh my gosh!"...are digging through my inventory in fascination and calling me everytime they need to borrow something unusual. Thanks for the company "e-Bay housers". Hey, maybe we could start a show like "Big Brother"...see who cracks first surrounded by auction boxes! I'd win big!

This has to be the neatest thread I have read so far.

I can relate to almost all of these posts!

I too am afraid to say I have an Ebay house, but thanks to my buyers I now have a bigger Ebay house-we moved on 04/01/01. Needless to say hubby and kids never complain!

Yes! I had only dreamed that someday we would be here again!

I bought a new house, only because it had an office and finished basement which was perfect to hold my eBay stuff.

Four years ago, I never would have imagined this. I did not even own a computer then.

I do not sell like I used to, but gosh do I ever have the stuff! My office is filled literally to the ceiling with books. The top of my computer hutch is covered in corningware, more books, some old can banks, a bunch of old packets of thank you cards (funky 70's ones!), glasses, bowls, pez dispensers, happy meal toys, and, well, you name it. It's up there.

One thing I have found out is this: the longer I do this, the harder it has become to actually sell the stuff I pick up. I have become a collector of things I never cared about before. I bought some Cherry Ames Nurse books. Could not let them go. 20 Happy Hollisters for $1.00 w/DJ. Prominently now displayed in my living room. Those huge, funky shaped pottery ashtrays and anything that is older marked pottery, now lining my hearth. Old kitchen utensils and copper items fill the kitchen cabinet space that I once longed for so desperately. And I blame this all on eBay.

The fact is, I grew out of the eBay house I created and had to move into a larger one because of it. I have been here a year now, and the space I thought I had (1,000 more sq. ft) is now fully taken up with the stuff I will have for sale one day. Throw things away? Never. I say to my kids, "put that down in the basement, I can sell it on eBay". I scoff at anyone who says they are having a yard sale and ask me would I like to put some stuff in with it. HA! nope. I can sell it on eBay. I will list something three times on eBay before I will drag it out into my yard to be picked over by someone else who is probably only looking to sell stuff on ebay anyway.

So I say, an eBay house begets an eBay house, and so on.

Oh yea, and the eBay car. I got a mustang. eBay helped make the payments last year. Only problem is, the trunk is so small I can't fit boxes into it!

I love it. It has really made my life interesting! Not to mention, physically challenging. Lifting and packing the boxes, stacking the piles that have fallen over, going back through heaps because I forgot what I had in them, and lastly, just navigating from room to room without tripping over the junk. It has become easier now to explain to neighbors, friends and coworkers, as more people have gotten into eBay. When they see the mess, all you have to say is "I sell stuff on eBay"...

and they say "Oh, ok!"

I did too! It's called a brick and mortar store! It's a little house on our property so that's low overhead. It will hold all the ebay stuff as well as all that stuff you accumulate that's worth $3 and no one wants to pay $5 shipping for it! Sort of a combination of yard sale, antiques and collectibles, gifts, ebay, etc. Walk-ins should make up for the loss of rent, but if they don't, it's still worth it to reclaim my piece of mind.

I can hardly wait! I'm beginning to see the floor again. Unhappily after 4 years of ebay plus 2 estates I inherited, I do not like what I see but when it's finally empty we will be able to redo it. It's a wonder what's been covered up!

I see organization in my future and I love it! We have another garage to hold furniture so except for 3 bookcase/secretaries and a clothing rack, the store will be wall to wall bookcases. We sell all one of a kind so it's not nearly as easy to organize as if we had boxes of new things. This is truely the answer to my prayers!

Hi, Everyone!

Well, I have to agree, this is a great thread! And I thought I was the only one with an eBay house!

As soon as you walk into the kitchen, you know something is wrong. One counter always seems to be reserved for items that are on auction or will be soon. But the worst part is, I have one of those glass top ranges (they make great counter space) and it seems that eBay stuff always winds up on there. So now I can't cook-buy eBay helps pay for all of those take-out meals! And who in their right mind would have two full size stand mixers on the counter? No one, except if one of them is going to be for sale on eBay!

But it gets worse as you progress into the dining room. I can't begin to describe the situation on the table except to say that most of the time, you can't find it! And them there is that never-ending pile of packages "discreetly" hidden in one corner.

And the upstairs bedrooms...My daughter got married last year and I think you can well imagine what happened to her room. Then there's the extra guest room...My mom comes to visit every summer from out of state and I frantically try to figure out what to do with everything in there!

The attic I don't even dare tackle and in the basement is my computer along with two desks which hold piles of disks, reference books, paperwork and just about anything else you can think of! And there are shelves lined with boxes of more "stuff"!

And I have an eBay van...

And it's not a minivan, either! But this last Friday, when I was getting ready to go to Saturday's garage sales, I had to reorganize the van so that I could fit in any new purchases. When I first got it, the first thing I did was go out and buy blue blankets (those velour kind) to match the interior so that I could cover up the seats so they wouldn't get dirty in case the garage sale stuff wasn't in the cleanest condition. And you know that area behind the last bench seat...well, I covered that up too. One day a man helped me to the van with a purchase from his garage sale and when I opened the back, he said, "Wow, nice velour upholstery!" So then I had to explain that this was only my "garage sale blanket"-how embarrassing!

And I have an eBay three-car garage...

With an upstairs, too! The downstairs isn't full of eBay stuff, but two of the three spaces are used for storing cars that haven't been on the road for years, but we can't seem to part with because they are from the 1960's. But the upstairs of the garage is another story...

It is chock full of merchandise and boxes, boxes, boxes (I can't resist retrieving useful looking boxes out of dumpsters) and rolls of bubble wrap, bags of packing peanuts and I'm not even sure what else! There is a large Oriental bronze table lamp up there "somewhere" that I would like to sell on eBay that has been "lost" for more than two years. It's a pretty sad situation when you can't find something that big!

Then there are two eBay storage sheds, one that my husband built and another that he purchased that we thought would solve the problem. Well, we can't fit anything more into them, either.

But this is unique...

I also have an eBay gazebo! It's not too bad, but right now it is housing a large bag of peanuts that I have to lug up to the upstairs of the garage. And it's the place where I take most of my pictures, weather permitting. So there are some tablecloths and other props in there. My husband can't even relax in there anymore. Most of the time I have to ask him to take his cup of coffee off the table so it doesn't get into the pictures!

Traces of eBay can be found everywhere! But am I having fun...most certainly!

P.S. I don't think the bathrooms have been affected, not just yet, anyway!
