Hi everyone. I may be crazy, but now that I work at home I don't have the joy (?) of doing the office Christmas or "Holiday" (for those of you in other traditions) Swap. So I have an idea. An auctionwatch swap!! What we can do is post our wants here. Preferably your want should be something small, silly, sentimental, and/or something that people are willing to give away--in other words something we wouldn't even TRY to sell online . If you have the item, post your reply here and let the person know. (And for those of you longing for a new husband/wife, a trip around the world, relief from teenagers/toddlers, special visit from Pamela Anderson-Lee, etc.---sorry, I think Priority Mail rates on all of those are a little too high to be practical.)

I'll start.

For a couple of years now I have been CRAVING those silly knitted slippers that my elderly spinster aunties used to knit (crochet? god knows). They go over the whole foot, are relatively shapeless, and come in lovely colors like Avacado green, burnt sienna, and cotton candy pink. As I kid I used to groan about these and now I want some badly. The more hideous the better. All my aunties are gone, I've outgrown my last pair and I am desperate. My feet are freezing. I wear a size 10-11 shoe in ladies' sizes and will take anything!! Who will save this poor Angeleno from frozen foot syndrome?

Okay, go ahead and post your wants.

Kim

Anything piggy. Val broke down my resistance to Things Not Cool when she put "Classic Pooh" Piglet stickers all over my monitor. Then I bought an Occupied Japan mariachi pig (!) salt shaker to whom I became inordinately attached, and actually searched ebay for two months to find its mate (on which I got into a bidding war, which I won at $11). The downward slide has commenced. I think it's probably a Good Thing.

I know where to get those. I will try.

What awful color do you want most?

Just occurred to me that you could visit any church bazaar and pick up enough for the next 200 years. (My grandmother was in charge of Mittens for the bazaar; somebody else did the Slippers.)

Ooooh!! Slippers! I will be happy to pay shipping, just find me some warm goofy ones!!

My favorite color is blue, but I'll go for anything at this point.

I have the PERFECT pig for HCQ. That means we need more peeps to join up. We need participants! Come on, you know there's some awful, cheesy thing you've been wanting but it's just too weird or obscure to ask a friend or relative for! Chances are one of us has one!

a Spaghettios spoon with my name on it

Damn! I had one of those too! Okay, a confession about how much of a geek I was even in 4th grade:

I lived only 3 blocks away from school so I'd walk home for lunch every day at noon(this is where the Spaghettios memory comes in). Mom would have a dish of them ready for me, with the aforementioned spoon. I'd watch Jeopardy, but would have to leave at 12:25 to get back to school - time to hear the final answer, but not to get the question. So Mom would write down the question for me so when I got home I could see if I was right

Goony, I know, but tons of fun, and all that esoterica has entertained me far more in my life than any of the ostensibly "important" childhood things (like learning to be good at kickball, which I never was).

Okay, back to Christmas swaps. Thanks for a rare warm childhood memory.

HCQ, I always sucked at kickball (**shudder**) too.

My mom used to feed me Spaghettios for breakfast when I was a teenager. She would have loved it if I would have eaten eggs or sausage or pretty much anything else, but I was such a picky eater Spaghettios were all I wanted.

My parents even went so far as to send me to a psychologist who specialized in eating disorders. They thought surely I was anorexic or something but the doc confirmed that nope, I was just picky.

And I still love Spaghettios.

Okay Kim, you're in!
Please email your address to [email protected], I can ship today.

Now when you see these, do not be alarmed. They are 1 size fits all, and look small, but see I have a pair. I put them on my feet and my whole family turned green with envy.

Well I wore them for almost 24 hours and this included OUTSIDE, which lead to my washing them.

When I washed them they became larger. Still great, but definitely larger and even more profoundly shapeless. So... If they are snug (I doubt it) pop them in the washer and there you go.

poppinjohn : wow!! that was the first time I have done a book search from all my sources and not found the book.
I have a friend in Alabama who owns a bookstore who I told to be on the lookout for you though.
Maybe we can find this one if we all check our resources.

Ok seriously... I'll trade a jar of Papaya Seed dressing or a box of chocolate macadamia nuts for a jar of Apple Butter!

Also, my grandmother used to bring back this yummy yummy stuff called 'Dulce de Leche' from Argentina.

kihei - just in case Santa doesn't come across, here's a recipe for dulce de leche (which I also looooooove):

http://www.iagora.com/iculture/cuisine/recipes/dulce_leche.html

If you're really lazy (like moi) you can do it the canned way - just reduce a couple cans of sweetened condensed milk the same way. Hardest part of the whole thing is keeping it from scorching.

Oh Boy!!!!

VeryModern is singlehandedly saving me from frostbite!!

Am I lucky or what???

Life is good! Now it's VeryModern's turn to ask for something.

I'm still checking on those Sphagettios things.

Anybody got a Mr. Bubble t-shirt? Old and full of holes is OK. In fact it's better. Someone too shy to post emailed me privately asking for one. They said it would bring a tear of joy to their eye if it could be procured. Shipping to be paid by them of course. Post here if you have a source.

Oh goodie!...Something I think I can find!...I don't have an old Mr. Bubble tee, BUT I have an old box of Mr. Bubble (from my personal youth, now a piece of my bathroom decor)& using some computer tools, I could make a shirt....hey, I could even use an old white tee shirt so it almost looks like an original....

I know the Mr. Bubble original tee search has just begun (and we all know how good we all are at "findin'" stuff )...But if none turn up...I'd be happy to make it for the too shy to post person...(Don't be shy, it's way more fun to post than lurk
Just let me know....

brighid, I have a box of Mr. Bubble that has a mail-in form for a Mr. Bubble T-Shirt! 5.95 for child size, 6.95 for adult, with proof of purchase seal from the box. You're welcome to the box if you want it, barcode and all, lol

This is my all time favorite T-shirt. It is worn beyond belief, and I would love to locate another.

Other than this, I would like to have a new/old/different T-shirt to wear to the gym. Something that amuses me and give me zing. If no one else would go anywhere wearing it, then it's probably perfect.

Note to Kim - if you sent your address, I did not get it. How cold are your feet?

VeryModern, I got caught up in chatting on IRC last night and forgot to send my address! Will do it today. What does that t-shirt in that picture say? My aged peepers can't make out the text. Also--dare I ask---is that a candid shot of you?

If anyone else is too shy to post, my email address is [email protected]. I don't mind being the Christmas Swap Elf. Send in your wants. As I'm essentially housebound, there is very little chance I will come knocking on your door or hiding in your bushes.

I've already offered my own Mr. Bubble bottle/orderform to Mr. Shy & Desperate, but he says he's ordered from them before and they take 2 months to deliver. So, we're still looking for a shirt.

Will keep you posted on new requests as they pour in.

Kim

The shirt says "normal" upsidedown, and no that is not me. It is a flamboyant man on the verge of crossdressing. He is expressing himself.

UpInTheHills - thanks, that's very kind of you! Are you sure you want to part with it?

"Uh Oh Spaghettios" will do nicely. I'll always wonder what happened to my personalized one, though. I remember taking it with me to school one day and showing it to my friends. I also remember wearing black nail polish that day. I must've been a weird kid.

UpInTheHills you're awesome, thanks!

Kim, thanks for starting this thread. What a great idea! Now someone needs to post wanting an item I can find...

Come to think of it, HCQ, I have a little pig figurine who has been living on a closet shelf for some time now. He's not valuable but he's pretty cute, and he looks a little like Wilbur from Charlotte's Web. He may have been attached to something else at one time (or was that the cow??) If you're interested, he's yours. Just let me know.

(Edited out my email address... see above.)

A giant t shirt to sleep in! I'm tall, Hubby is not, so I never got to wear the 'pre-softened' t shirt that comes down to my knees. Anyone got a Michael Jordan 'hand me down'?
