Well, I decided to do it & I did it, I sent the email awhile ago.
I opened a hotmail email account & used that email address.
If, & when I get an answer I will post it here.

I've been following this thread... So what happens if he pays and askes you son to ship it to your address?????

What are you going to say to him if he emails and says "I've got it all packed up ready to ship to you, send me money" if you know your son hasn't been paid and shipped it out?

That's the trouble with lies, they get more and more complicated.

You may get your money out of this guy and maybe that is what counts for you. In a way I am kinda glad you did it. I am sick of getting stiffed for auctions and although it doesn't happen to me that often, it does happen. I can still remember my first deadbeat on eBay, it was a bidder for a $2 item. I try to be the most understanding seller. I don't have a hard deadline to be paid and if something comes up, I try not to be cynical and try to understand. It is not my job to sit in judgement of my buyers. I try to take people at their word. This has served me well.In the last year of selling I have gotten stiffed maybe five or six times. When I do get stiffed I file for FVF and move on.

Microbes Sorry I couldn't answer sooner, we had quite a storm & it knocked out my modem.

He's never going to have my address because he's never going to hear from me again. If he pays, great. The idea was to get him to pay for the book or to make him regret not buying the book.
Remember he is new to eBay, zero FB & off to a bad start. Negative FB will probably not bother him, he can always start anew. I'm hoping this will make him regret he didn't go through with his purchase.

I had a dead beat bid 11.00 on an item and he never completed the auction .
When I relisted it it sold for 35.00 .The deadbeat then contacted me ,offering to complete the original deal!!!It seems that when he saw how much it sold for on the relist he got interested again.--Not a chance in h*** i'd sell it to him.

Play it straight, give proper feedback and check with the 2nd bidder.

No word from him yet & now I have doubts that I ever will. I didn't think of this before, so tonight I checked what he was bidding on & he has won 10 auctions, all ending in May, one for well over 200.00. He still has zero feedback so I have to assume he is a deadbeat 10 times over & no one is ever going to hear from him again.
I really wanted this to work too, darn it.
Probably a kid that couldn't pay for the book in the first place, even to re-sell it.

from Jan 1 2001

NPB filed 244
FVF filed 197

lost sales 4000+
lost time who knows but you can bet it is over a weeks worth so 40 hours @ ??.?? it adds up. in the real world I make 75.00 an hour that's 3000.00

so deadbeats have cost us this year so far 5 to 7 thousand dollars and we aren't even into 6 months of the year yet.

the bidder enters into a contractual agreement to complete the auction when they place a bid per ebays rules, if you have to appeal to the bidders greedy side to help him fulfill his contractual obligation go for it. I might even try it myself. If you read through the rules on ebay I know they don't cover this one.

Why lower yourself?

Fantasyland is where that notion aught to live.

Sorry but David2001 are you the poster boy for Road Rage? Slap back says it all. What do you do to get your pound of flesh?
No wait, I don't want to know.

Forget government conspiracy! It's the damn deadbeats that are trying to take away our right to sell!

Holy Shiite...it's a Holy War against a bidder over a $22 book!

What are you teaching your son? To lie and cheat? Over 22 bucks? That's a cheap price for integrity. I think you could teach him to take the higher road, to be mature, to realize that there are those who lie, cheat and steal and your recourse is as limited as it is for that person against you. (concept)
Then neg him - Or do the W's School for Feedback.

You can't control the nutbar bidder, but you can control yourself.

Best of Luck!

(am I the only one here who hasn't changed my name lately??? )

I guess I should have made it clear in the beginning, my son didn't do this, it was my idea, I did it on my own & it would help to know that he's over 40.
I just wanted to tease the deadbeat a little, but he never answered. I mentioned earlier that I wasn't aware that he bid on 10 auctions in late May, if I checked that I wouldn't have bothered. So far he is still at zero FB. I would guess that the negs will soon start showing up & he will be history. Thanks for your opinion, really.

Becky,
I can still see the smile on your husbands face.
I have contacted Southbys about the book & they want pictures, not digital. They have an office a few miles from my home & I may take the book there for an opinion.
