Just sent the following to the bidder.

I found the slip! I can't file for a refund/insurance until 30 days from 5 June ...will send you a refund if it isn't returned or you haven't received it by then.
Sorry about being grumpy...we live in a tiny town and this isn't the FIRST time mail simply never arrived or was not returned....sigh.
Once I mailed 2 letters to the SAME address in California...1 arrived promptly...the other took an additional SEVEN days.

**I DID purchase a receipt..and you have no reason to think otherwise.

Can you file a lost package without the receipt? I thought you had to have the receipt?
Thanks

I found nothing threatening in the bidder's first email. I have gotten quite a few like that, especially from newbies.

The seller's first response did nothing to defuse the situation, if anything the seller added gas to a fire!

If they paid for insurance or not, if they didn't get the item the seller should make it right.

When I had to file once the post office needed a signed letter from the buyer saying they did not receive the item.

This letter needed to be dated at the 30 day date.

Of course this was my post office.
At the 30 days, with the letter and receipt they refunded my insured amount.

So why did you lie to the bidder? To make yourself look better?

Admit to the seller you screwed up, apologize, and give them their $20.00 back. Don't lie to them.

FYI: To file an insurance claim, you have to fill out a form at your post office, and then they send it to the recipient's post office, where the recipient fills out some info. It is going to look fishy when you just suddenly produce a refund without going through the insurance claim process.

Just admit to them you screwed up. Don't make it worse.

I lied about finding the receipt to see if I can call their 'bluff'...just a last chance.

I didn't screw up..the POST OFFICE did...
I guess someone else wanted the GAP boxers..sigh...maybe the workers got them for fathers day?

Anyone else keep having the PO loose stuff..how come it NEVER is returned to sender?

How long ago has it been since this package was mailed?

Shipped priority or parcel post?

Shipped priority on 5 June. Started emailing me where is it on 9 June.

I think with my hubby gone for the week...someone getting my info from ebay BEFORE we'd really said anything..and then letting me KNOW they'd be calling...and THEN someone starts calling repeatedly and hanging up...
Well...I got spooked.

What was the point of that? You messed up, refund. In the history of dumb seller ideas, that one takes the shooting star. Now when she wants you to file ins. , what are you going to tell her, "Oops, silly me. I went and lost that darn thing AGAIN." Stop playing games and act like a professional seller. Wait thirty days and then refund. I have already put you on my "would not bid on items if H*ll froze over". You play too many games with bidders.

Hard to figure what happened. You may be right and he might have gotten them.

They may be delayed because of the weather and flooding.

In this case I would send him his money back in a certified letter and move on.

I know it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth, no one likes to feel that they got screwed, but that's what I would do.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

I've read through the emails you posted several times and find only a newbie bidder who's afraid he's being scammed. Bottom line---he paid for insurance YOU were responsible to purchase the insurance and keep the receipt. Do the honest thing--refund his money and move on. If not take the neg you've rightfully earned.

i also only read emails from a bidder who's paid for their item, waited a reasonable time for priority mail to arrive, and is understandably concerned that it hasn't. lying about finding the insurance receipt was a bad move . i don't know how you could deal with that one. your only hope is that the package will eventually show up. if it doesn't, and your buyer wants you to file for insurance and you've no proof of it, it's going to sound awfully fishy to say 'oh, ok, i've decided i'll just refund you myself.' lesson: do *not* lie to your customers.

that said, i had a priority package not show up. very similar situation, with concerned buyer. clerk at my p.o. suggested the buyer check at his/her post office and see if it's there. clerk bet it would be. and it was. maybe that'll be the case here.

good luck

I have to sympathize with the frustration that the buyer is obviously feeling. He has paid for an item, paid for insurance and has recieved nothing. I am primarily a seller on ebay, but I have bought occasionally also. I know how frustrating it can be to deal with uncooperative sellers when I feel like I do my best to do right by my own buyers. I think that since you lost the insurance slip you should cough up the money and reimburse him the price of this auction as well as refund him his postage. After all, postal insurance claims DO refund postage on undelivered items. Had you taken steps in the beginning to be more helpful with this buyer and at that time ask him to wait the full 30 days, then that might have been fine and possibly you might have found the insurance slip, but when you didn't do this in the beginning, I think after so much mistrust is being felt here from the buyer about the seller, it's not fair to ask that now of him. What I am wondering is if you actually forgot to insure it and realize this now and really don't want to have to back your own mistake. I think the whole thing is a mess that could have been easily handled had you retained the insurance slip which was your responsiblity if the buyer paid you for the insurance and you had just filed it when the time came. Now you really don't have any leg to stand on because you don't have the reciept. Even though I am a seller, this is why buyers have mistrust issues at times..........after all we get their money first and they are just hoping we do the right thing by purchasing what they have paid for along with mailing items in a timely manner. Do the right thing and chalk this up to experience.

At least you are not in my shoes........Almost a year ago, I sold a Masonic Sword on ebay....the buyer ask that the sword be insured for the amount of purchase. ($135.00) When I made out the insurance receipt, I inadvertantly made out the little green slip that will insure items up to $50.00 instead of the correct insurance receipt that would insure it up to $135.00. Well to make a long story short, the sword either did not show up or the buyer could tell from the stamp on the package that I had miss-insured the item. Anyway, I had to make up the difference out of my pocket, because I had made the mistake........expensive mistake, but I will tell you I am much more attentive when I fill out my slips along with keeping good records and knowing where my insurance receipts are. In this case my buyer of my sword could have been easily scamming me, but the bottom line still fell back on me because I was the one that made the insurance mistake.

My advise, chalk this up and refund the guy.
