LOL
You're correct Forhope, if in fact this piece arrived damaged as the customer claims, this would be #2.
Feel better now?
And as far as the title of this thread, MY BAD.
As much as EG believes I loathe her, and wait in the wings to jump on her each & every thread, what some of you EG lovers fail to notice is that I was one of the only posters to jump in & side with her on her Vrane thread from last month.
Now why don't you be a good little boy or girl, and go do an AW search, and report back here on how much havock in other people's lives I've caused in the past 30-60-90 days.
I'll be waiting ...........

That is what happens on message boards. Each and every one of us has the right to speak our opinion. Some like what others say and do, others don't.
There is no way to predict how a topic will turn out. Some are so volatile that even lurkers come forward to say their piece.
I doubt that reddeer is looking for anyone's sympathy.

forhope: Reddeer is one of the friendliest, and most helpful AW members that I have had the pleasure to know in my years here.
I use to follow his posts on the ebay boards even before AW.
He came here today with a valid question, and you are trying to turn it into something else.
Hell, knowing him, he very well may refund the cash to the customer even if he doesn't have to!
I have a great deal of respect for Red, and I know him to be one of the most honest and reputable sellers that posts here.
It's a damn shame that one who helps so many, so often, has to put up with with such assinine B.S.

Hey Colin, how true.
And before Forhope corrects me yet again, the vrane thread was in April, NOT last month. MY BAD again.

It is acceptable to agree with a poster on one thread and disagree on another.
But why does one feel the need to pick on someone because they don't like how they treated someone else ?
I am horrible at remembering most names and will wonder why a poster picks my posts out of all the posts to rip apart, then I remember another time I disagreed with their opinion on another thread.
I remember reddeer agreeing with EG until the last set of photos when they seemed to prove that the button holes could look OK with the sweater buttoned.
But even so, shouldn't EG be here if she does have a problem with it?

There is a topic here, I just know it. Please keep your personal comments about other posters to yourself.
Thread will remain open until closure is requested by originator.
Zazzie - I think we are adding a section to the CG's that will read "to piffle while walking like a diva will be certain cause for immediate suspension" Look for it soon!

USPS is no different than Canada Post in that regards.
No damage to the box itself, no refund.
There are "shock meters" that can be placed in boxes (my shipping supplier sells them) that will tell you if a box has been dropped more than 6 feet. The cost about a buck a peice, and I would only use them on very expencive stuff, but they make turning down a claim hard to do.

But on the other hand.......Reddeer certainly doesn't need me or anyone else to defend him.
He seems to have mastered the art of being a genuinely nice person, an honest and ethical seller, and being able to rip a fool a new one when necessary. This is a fine line to be able to walk and is to be admired.
There is no doubt that the original question as posed was/is sincere and deserves to be answered in-kind with honest and sincere thoughts and opinions. The question did not ask for a critical assessment of the knowledge, or lack of it, of Canadian or American postal regulations. So best to let it go.

Neil, I also agree with what the others are saying about the scanned photo looking similar if it were bending away from the scanner. Plus the V shape in the middle center resembles the curve of your piece.
But what stumps me is the fat end (on the long piece) that looks white instead of blue. Also, the small glass shard of blue glass really looks like yours, but next to the longer piece, it makes the other not look like yours. Weird!

Scanners can really distort things. Lots of buyers don't have these neat Sony Mavicias and Kodaks to take pictures with.
I'm not 100% on this one, but if the buyer is going to borrow a good camera, maybe it's legit??? I'll give a better opinion when I see a better picture.
Pictures the quality of the buyers picture by a seller would start a Fuzzy Dark Picture thread.

You said "had this item arrived broken, with no apparent damage to the box itself...Canada Post would have refused the insurance claim." So the question I asked that you didn't answer was then.... why do you insure items over $100.00 if it is of no use to you? You are the one who brought up insurance in your original post saying that the buyer didn't ask for any and you didn't insure it, as if it were relevant to your predicament...
Without insurance you are up the creek without a paddle. If the box had arrived damaged you would be able to claim, since it apparently wasn't, there is little you say you can do, which according to Canada Post's rules, which you so kindly posted for everyone to read is apparently the case. Although had the item arrived in a caved in box, you would feel pretty foolish!
I don't believe an American buyer who purchases breakable items from another country would not expect to be paying for insurance. And selling to a buyer who is opting for cheap shipping without insurance after investing $76.00 in what is obviously a heavy and breakable item is begging for disappointment. Underwrite the insurance yourself! The question whether the blue glass arm is off your piece or not is moot...you are up the creek without a paddle. You said you would give a full refund which is very decent of you, but there is no recourse unless you choose to call the buyer a liar by refusing his evidence.
The buyer is either honest, and you are stuck paying the bill as you said you would, or the buyer is dishonest, and even if you asked to have it returned for inspection he would probably break it to prove the point...
It just looks like you are searching for a hairline crack in the situation to wriggle out of. WAH WAH, I sent a breakable item uninsured and it broke WAH WAH....

I don't think it looks like the same thing. Even when I've scanned something, I don't see how it could've turned out like that.

To me, if the piece first shown is off my piece is very important.
The seller here could just say no to a refund. What's to stop him if he wanted to do that? A dreaded neg! Horrors!
It sounds like he is trying to do the right thing. Perhaps the buyer is trying a scam.
I would rather wind up with my broken piece returned to me than forever wonder if the buyer has the unbroken piece and my money too.
