What is it about eBay that really brings out the anger and frustration in many of us users? By the same token we need it or we wouldn't be here.

ebay has given me a tremendous opportunity to build a business, have flexible hours & actually meet some pretty neat people along the way. I'm very grateful to them for this.

What angers me?

Trying to play by ebay's constantly changing rules only to see others flagrantly disobeying them & ebay willing to do nothing about it. (such as in the powerseller thread).

Trying to be a responsible seller when ebay does little of nothing to shut down truly bad sellers who make it harder on all of us.

Trying to be a responsible seller when ebay does nothing to come down hard on deadbeats & NPBs & let's the feedback process be subverted by these people.

ebay screaming "only a venue" when it serves their purpose but then dictating new rules constantly.

I can understand fee increases, I can understand ebay doing what's necessary to protect their investment...any decent business person would do the same. I can even understand an uneven playing field for the "big boys" IF they'd come out & tell us that's the rules.

But their press releases about how even the bigs are under the same rules, then they do nothing if you complain about violations is total bull. And I don't have much respect for people who lie.

jumpinjacko That's definitely on the love side.

reston_ray That's about all you can say.

eventer You said it all, only much better than I ever could have

It's a strange relationship eBay has with their customers (us sellers) and even the buyers.

As a seller I really don't feel anything like a valued customer as I might even if I bought something in Home Depot or Walmart.

To be frank I feel like I need them more than they need me, which as a customer breeds a level of frustration. As seller I do need eBay. They have enabled me to have a wonderful part time business that makes a nice profit and also allows flexibility.

The frustration comes because they unilaterally set all the rules and tell me how to do business and what I can sell. Even if they have service problems they want their customer to plead a case before a refund is granted. Being a virtual monopoly I guess it changes the attitudes of employees to one that says you need us more than we need you.

Their business model seems to be changing too, to one that reduces the importance of the multitudes of small sellers of collectibles, antiques and misc., to more of a front end sales operation for corporate interests.

As someone said ...they seem more interested in selling their stock than running a business and keeping loyal customers. Their priorities need some fine tuning.

What's all this mean?? Heck I don't know but it's a spot to vent.

Edited because someday I'll get the hang of UBB
