I'm afraid this is a real thread. I was hoping otherwise, but my hopes dwindle as time passes.
Sorry for the Nazi reference. It really applies to any society in which tolerance for an opposing viewpoint cannot be voiced for fear of retaliation--Soviet Union, Cambodia, Communist China, and myriads of countries, and eras, over multitudes of centuries.
What IMLDS2 has clearly missed in their patriotic furvor, is that diversity is what made this nation great in the first place, and why it is now the number one nation in the world. Yes, our system is fraught with problems, but I wouldn't wish to emigrate and claim citizenship anywhere else.
Frankly, being a lover of politics, and the history of this nation, I love this current situation. It may seem stupid, but we get to observe firsthand how our nation faces new challenges to old thought processes, to questions that haven't been addressed in decades. While I do not really appreciate the whining by either candidate, I do like to see the giant political machine that is government in action. Nice for a change.

When I referenced 'Flower Child'..I MEANT that we don't fit the mold...and don't try and tell us what to do.
NO...I wasn't a flower child. I was that student who NEVER voiced her opinion..why..you remember..the one no one really notices?
I was the won who loved the saying 'HELL NO WE WON'T GO'...but I wrote to sailors who did..had some friends die who went...I kept my real opinion inside.
I'm the one who obeys the law...never even seen the inside of a jail..whose Dad was a cop in Calif...whose cousin was murdered when he pulled someone over for speeding(my cousin was a cop too).
I'm also the one who HATED the way the Viet Nam vets were treated on their return.
I'm the one who watchd in HORROR as those students were murdered by our own soldiers on campus...why? For speaking their mind.
But I kept my lips shut...
I'm the one who was SHOCKED by Clinton and how he has degraded everything I stood for.
I the one who raised an Eagle Scout..a cheerleader...5 children who are all productive adults...
I'm the one who has 14 beautiful grandchildren (the oldest being only 8yrs)..
I'm the one who WANTS a MORAL America for them to grow up in.
I'm the one who wants God put back in the schools.
I'm the one who thinks we have the right to bear arms.
I believe WRONG is wrong..no matter what the definition of 'is ' is...
I'm as American as Apple Pie..the PTA Pres.;
the fundraiser chairman..the cub leader.
Yes...I'm middle America that is tired of having others beliefs crammed down our throats..I'm tired of others telling me NOT to pray..NOT to do this and that.
I'm tired of wondering what the definition of 'is' is..

I believe you missed the part about make love not war. You know..."all we are saying,is give peace a chance"
Does any of this ring a bell?
I'd have to say you've come a long way baby.
Not in a positive direction but you have come a long way.
My goodness even after all you've said I don't HATE you. I'd have to be a little closer to the edge to start hating people I don't even know.
Peace.

Too scary we must have been typing our posts at the same time.
Too eerie...
I get it now though. This whole thing is just a promo for the Grinch Movie.

Carole, Who is this "we" you keep referring to?
For your reference I have never been in jail, my children are wonderful productive human beings we have never been on welfare or had our hand out.
My family is from the "middle country" as well as Texas. Some are republicans, some are democrats. We each respect the other views. I would never hate anyone for their views. I too am as American as apple pie. You do not have a corner on that market no matter what you might think.
Now I am through with you[unless I change my mind. I am a woman after all!].
Really. I can see by your long post up there that you do have some anger from your growing up years.
Try to work it out.
Tegan! That is really funny! Great minds think alike!
I hear you. I agree with alot of what you say. But if you really want to make a difference in the world you can't do it with hate. There is no place for hate and morals in the same place. The very best way to get your beliefs across is to live them not to force other people to live them. There will always be "bad" people in the world. But there are alot more "good" people in the world who come in all shapes and sizes, religions, races and even political affilitaions. People would take you alot more serious or maybe even listen to your point of view if you didn't come off so hateful.
The morals you speak of are valuable but you shoot yourself in the foot without kindness. It HAS to go hand in hand otherwise you sound so hypocritical and no one will hear a word you say.
Here's a song you can hum to yourself if you get feeling to hateful...
I want to be kind to everyone
For that is right you see
So I say to myself remember this
Kindness begins with me
I'm sure you know the tune
Oddish~ The Odd One

Remember that scene from "Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown!" where Lucy is lecturing the other kids and Snoopy is standing behind her, mimicking her, beating his breast and shaking his fist?

How disheartening to read this kind of stuff on the eve before Thanksgiving. Now we have another excuse to hate, be rude and wish to exclude and segregate ... political affiliation. Geez, as a flower child of the 60s all I can say is "How appalling".
I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving holiday, friends, posters, lurkers, Democrats and Republicans alike.
affirmation comes from within ...
