Congratulations on your success RichieRich. I have been working yard sales and thrift shops to find stuff to sell. Although I have been successful, as one other poster noted, it is very time consuming to actually find the merchandise, and I don't think it's possible to get enough merchandise to keep a viable and sustainable small business going.
I'm wondering how you go about finding these great volume deals? It would be so much more efficient to buy in that manner, but I have no idea how to go about it. Any clues you can give without giving away your secrets?
Best regards,
Dale

I was really really lucky and happen to stumble on to them! The problem is I started this post the end of April, it is now August! I pretty much sold everything I had, stumbled across a few small deals. But I need more! I wish I knew the answers to how you go about it. With me it has been nothing but luck and I need some luck right now.
I can tell you this, I shop two days a week and do not waste my time at garage sales. I have tried book sales but decided (I think) that I just do not know enough about them.
I would love to partner you with my competitors that live in the Denver area. Yes, imagine that!
Why, because we could all benefit.
The more people pulled together:
The more $$$$ to spend - Easy to say, I will buy ALL of those for X amount of money. Say it is on clearance for $15.00, they have 200 of them. You offer $7.50 each to take them all, cash, now, sold! Money speaks!
I would not get there after them - when the "best" buys are gone. Save us all time. Divide the shopping up - you go here, I go there.
So if you are in the Denver area or willing to meet here ocassional to swap buys, sell clothing and are interested in this idea, email be at [email protected].

I know what you mean about wasting time at garage sales, I have wasted plenty of time there, BUT, I have also found my very best deals at them. It really is hit or miss though. I kind of have books figured out pretty well I think - which ones will sell that is. Again, like the other stuff, it's FINDING them that's the problem. I basically stumble upon stuff occasionally with no regularity or volume.
If I were in the Denver area, we'd probably be talking about this over lunch. I would love to get together to figure out ways to make this work. I am a computer programmer, and make pretty good money, but I have a lot more fun doing eBay stuff. (Don't tell my boss ) I even have the perfect boss, and the perfect job as I work almost exclusively from home for a company half way across the country. I guess that after 22 years of the same ol' stuff, I'm not having a lot of fun anymore doing programming. My regular job is looking up at the moment, as my boss has set me up with a very fun project...but, but, but, I think that if I could make good money doing eBay, I'd rather be doing that. It's just more fun.
But back to the ol' dilemma of figuring out how to successfully keep enough stock, and list enough auctions to make enough money to do eBay...I guess that I'll keep working basically the way that I am, trying to hone all of the required skills necessary to be able to handle more volume. I am very successful with the auctions that I have, I just don't have enough of them because I can't find enough product.
I'd like to find a pile of stuff that's all the same, like 100 pairs of shoes or pants that all have the same description - just different sizes. Then you could put a pile of auctions out in a hurry, as I'm sure you have done based upon your noted purchases. I will start looking around for store closings to see if I can score any stuff that way, thanks to your posting.
Well, I guess I'd better get to those listings for the week. Feel free to email me directly at [email protected].
