What a true mass marketer would need is a storefront site that could handle 10K or 50K click through sales a day.

The buyer would have to pay by credit card, and the ONLY thing that comes out the seller's end in an invoice with the shipping label.

But now the question becomes- why use eBay ? The only reason currently is because of all the potential buyers eBay can claim to offer.

Another downside to using eBay is branding. Many large companies do not want their brands superimposed with eBay branding. Thus far, no new vendor on eBay has emerged from eBay with their own brand.

The largest, most successful sellers on eBay still don't have a brand by selling on eBay, and that is by design. The only brand on ebay is eBay.

Whenever anyone remarks about buying something on eBay THEY NEVER SAY - I bought this from seller x, THEY ALWAYS say they bought it on eBay.

Large companies with successful brands cringe at this prospect.
