I guess I give up. I have tried for days now in every way I can to reach a bidder of mine. They have a "myauctionwatch.com" email address which, of course, does not work.

I have no clue how they are managing to sell without a valid email address. How are people contacting them?

I have tried everything except contacting Ebay. I guess I have no choice but to do this, and believe it or not, I can't find where to do that! I found the place where you report bad phone numbers and names, but not email addresses.

Can any of you help me out with this?

Thanks!

How about pulling their contact info and calling them?

Kind of a drag, but it might work.

I know it might help, but I just hate the thought of calling them.

Sometimes just pulling up the contact info works. I did that just to alert a bidder that I wasn't receiving her emails, and she called me about three hours after I pulled it.

Turns out it was my ISP (very strict anti spam policy), which is why I now use a yahoo email as a backup.

Here's the link for contact info:
http://cgi3.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?MemberSearchShow

Another thing you could try, is to check their feedback and email the most recent person they dealt with to see if they received an alternative email address.

Good Luck!!

sadie -- I tried using my yahoo account also and the email was still returned. So that didn't work. (as much junk email as I get I don't think my isp cares about spam!)
I could pull up their infor and see if that will work.

kraftdinner -- I just now emailed 3 of the people that have sold to them. One of the 3 said the same thing happened to them. The other 2 haven't answered me yet.

I had difficulty contacting one of my winners recently -- his AOL account was closed. In any event, I "Added To" my auction description here:

http://cgi5.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?AddToItemDescription

a notice for the bidder to please contact me. He did so -- within a day and we did successfuly complete our transaction....

Good Luck and happy sales!

"Added To" my auction description here:~~~a notice for the bidder to please contact me

How did you do that? I don't think you can add to a discription after an auction is closed. You can't even do that in the last 12 hours of the auction.

Hi jwoodcraft,

I had this problem not to long ago. The email kept coming up invalid.

I wrote safeharbor and asked them about it.

They told me they would check into it(takes 2 days) and if it was invalid they would get suspended.

So they told me to check their ID in 2 days if it was not suspended to try email again only through eBay system(I'd already done that).

Anyway it took them about 3 days and the buyer turned up suspended.

However.....in the mean time she did get ahold of me to tell me of her new email address and to get EOA notice.

I told she should let eBay know of the change or it could result in suspension.

We completed our transaction and when I went to leave feedback, her account was suspended.

Guess she didn't want to do eBay anymore!

Does this person have anything up for auction right now or previously?

Yes, after the auction is closed, you can "Add" to your description. I just learned this -- and it's a great feature....

Good Luck!

It is not possible to add to the auction after it is over.

this is the message you get

Item can not be modified

We are sorry, you are not allowed to modify your item description in the last 12 hours of an auction.

I don't even see the Revise link in a closed auction. There is no way you should be allowed to changed the wording or anything in a finished auction. What would stop dishonest sellers from changing pictures or descriptions?

I have had more than one dead email address bidder. I think they all worked out ok, but not after being a real annoyance.

Bidders and sellers should not need to make phone calls--I have only done so on three or four auctions out of over 1000. Sellers and bidders absolutely need to have an alternate email service and stay in touch. The amount of suspended eBayers and negative feedback is really horrendous for this sort of thing and it doesn't have to be that way.

well, ding-dang... they changed it. Not more than two weeks ago I was able to add to the description. TOnight, after you said it couldn't be done I tried. It would not click through. STUPID dumb improvement.

Time to send a letter to eBay... seems to me pretty basic that we should be able to ADD to our description at any point in time. (frustrated sigh)

Anyway, I apologize for the out-dated information and appreciate knowing eBay has changed something once again with ZERO notification -- not talking the 12 hour rule either.

That's totally weird janice142. If you were able to add to your description after and auction, I think it must've been a major slip-up on eBay's part. Meya is right....it could lead to dirty deeds.

I don't find anything dishonest or nefarious about adding to a description after the item closes. Here, is exactly what I said:

On Aug-10-01 at 18:03:43 PDT, seller added the following information:
Hello XXX.

Your email appears to be having difficulties -- "permanent fatal errors" or "mailbox not found" depending upon which ISP I have chosen when writing you. Please contact me (click here) so we may successfully conclude our transaction. Thank you."

The addition (as you can see) is time-stamped and dated. It's clearly an attempt to contact and complete a transaction. Most importantly, it worked! The bidder was able to reach me, and his item is on the way. As you can see, this was just 10 days ago....

I believe that if the bidder has not heard from the seller, their first impulse will be to check the auction page. My addition gave notice that I was attempting to reach him.

What would stop dishonest sellers from changing pictures

What's to stop them now? That's a simple trick.

Gee, maybe you could do that if your auction didn't receive any bids. I know you can't add anything after an auction gets a bid.

Yes, changing the picture is easy, but not the description (?????)

That's what I was getting at. Pictures are easy to change (unless you are using iPix... YUCK0)

Discriptions on closed auctions... I think you would either have to be a good hacker, or eBay would have to be having a functionality problem

I did not explain myself well -- I am NOT changing my description. I am doing an AddToItemDescription -- a different thing entirely. As soon as there is a bid, it is *impossible* to change your description. From that point on however, you can make additions. Not from the auction page -- from this one:

http://cgi5.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?AddToItemDescription

which is found on the SiteMap.

Fact is Ebays own rules and policys don't allow you to add to or change anything after you have 1 bid even if the bid don't meet a reserve you might have.

at this time if you use your own photo host you can change the photo on your server useing the same name for a different picture how ever in due time ebay will be fixing this too...

kraftdinner -- yes they have auctions going right at this moment, with bids. Also, when mine ended they had several auctions running that had bids on them. These auctions have closed since then, but they do have more right now that have bids.

I just don't understand it. One of the other people who sold to this person contacted me just a little while ago and said they had the same problem.

I feel they must only contact you when they want to. Using a different email or something.

I have contacted Ebay on it. I just really believe that the email listed with Ebay should work. I just asked Ebay to check into it because I could not get their email to work. I may never hear from Ebay, but maybe I will and they will have straigtened it out.
I hope so.

Try going into one of their auctions and use the service - ask the seller a question - and see if you can get them that way.

Libra -- I did that. It bounced back to from Ebay, saying that it was not delieverable.

I guess I am justing waiting now to see what Ebay will have to say about it and if they can get it all straigtened out.

I think the confusion in this thread is over
"adding to" an auction vs. "revising" an auction. "Adding to" is done from the Seller Services page vs. directly from the auction listing. You can't modify any of the existing text, but you can append a date-stamped "addition."

I've had more bad email addresses and email account over the limits, the past 2 weeks than I've had over the past 2 years!

Thus far, I've had to wait around for them to contact me. One had the nerve to tell me, they've sent 2 emails in the past few days and try to give me down the road for not contacting Them! DUH! Funny, I sent 4, all returned.

Is it getting time to put in the auction, if your email isn't up to date with Ebay, DON'T BID ?

I am having the same problem with a bidder. I thought about leaving thema message on the feedback forum. Give them a neutral and tell them their email is not working. My bidder has 0 feed back.

Mine has feedback of 156 as of this morning. So they are not exactly new to Ebay and I really feel that they know the email does not work.

I too thought about leaving a neutral in their feedback asking them to contact me, but I am not sure it would do any good since they already have one neutral stating this very fact. So they know it is not working. They obviously just don't really care.

"I think the confusion in this thread is over "adding to" an auction vs. "revising" an auction. "

Yup, it sounds like some of the posters here have never revised a description or added to a desription so they don't know the difference or understand what is being talked about. Yet they comment anyway!

"There is no way you should be allowed to changed the wording or anything in a finished auction"

Add to, not revise. And the addition is time stamped.

Geez
