I'm trying to get all my mistakes w/buyers out of the way before the Christmas rush.

Buyer purchases 3 separate items. I spot it & send out EOA w/combined shipping rate in it. NO direct response from buyer, he simply sends 3 separate online payments w/full shipping on each.

Sooo, trying to be a caring seller, I ship his item, then issue him a refund. BUT, I was in a rush to get out the door and instead of typing in a refund of $1.50, I accidentally type in $15.00.

Not only do I send him a "I've shipped your item email" but I also send him a separate EM explaining the refund. NO response to either.

Balancing invoices a day or so later, I realize my mistake. I EM the buyer.

Dear XXX,

While issuing you a refund on your 3 purchases for $1.50, I accidentally typed in the amount incorrectly as $15.00.

I apologize for my mistake but would appreciate you resending the $13.50 difference back to me.

Regards
YYY Seller

THAT got me a response. Okay, boys and girls, can you guess the ONE WORD response I got from him?

Eventer...does the word start with "n" and end with "o"?

Next time just slip a check for the difference into the package....thats what I do in these cases.

His ONE and ONLY response was:

"Tough"

amy,

I do that when they send a check or money order but when they pay via on-line, I feel like I ought to refund the same way.

I'm sorry, folks, a bit of a rant AND a vent here. I do NOT understand people like this. He paid one evening, I had his items combined and mailed the next day, refunded his money that day & he acts like this.

Oh, and he's not a newbie either.

I think I would add him to my "blocked bidder" list just for showing how big of an arse he really is....

When you add someone to your "blocked bidder list" does the bidder receive a notice? Always wondered about that.......

docpjw,

I wish! But I'm a big believer in what goes around, comes around.

dave61bug,

No, they don't get any communication until they try to bid in an auction where they are blocked. Then they get an email from ebay about the seller having chosen to not accept their bids.

Anyone who accepts THAT kind of behavior from another user is a DOORMAT, and deserves what they get.

What goes around comes around?

Only if YOU make it happen.

Otherwise, that cliche is nothing more than a convenient excuse for you to be walked all over without having to feel ashamed for doing nothing about it.

Doormat? Eventer? That's a chuckle!

Eventer: PLEASE tell me what FB you are going to leave this buyer. Okay...okay...none of my business. But, if you need help composing a pithy comment, let me know.

Oh, and when he e-mails back to tell you the items were damaged in shipping and he wants a full refund, be sure to respond with only one word. Some ideas are:

1. Tough
2. HA!
3. Horsesh*t happens (okay that's 2 words)
4. Karma
5. ESAD (does that count as 1 word?)

Did you use PalPal? Can't you do a charge back? I had a buyer that sent me $6.50 to much so the nice person that I am I sent it back with a note saying sorry I don't accept tips. Thinking that would get some response,( now here I go thinking again), Not a word from him.

Hi Eventer & other Auctionwatchers. Eventer, I had something somewhat similar happen just last week! A bidder won 3 of my items and paid by Billpoint, which won't automatically allow for combined shipping. The bidder paid for shipping 3 times, so I caught the problem without him having to mention it, and I issued a quick refund for the excess. Ok. So what's he do? Thank me? Offer to name a statue in his town after me? Oh HELL NO! He shoots off a nasty e-mail saying "What's this about you contacting ebay about me?"

Fact is, ebay has nothing to do with it. He no doubt got an e-mail from Billpoint showing
the excess postage that I refunded to him, COMPLETE with an explanation from me at the bottom of this e-mail.

I just think from here on out, I'm gonna cut the Sir Galahad nonsense and let them come to me when they've overpaid on shipping. The guy had to have known when he went through the Billpoint website process that shipping would be charged 3 individual times.

It just don't pay..........
(cries into keyboard)

Thank you for commiserating,

Jack

Eventer...don't people just amaze you? Having dealt with the public for such a lengthy period of time (and not just in the auction world), nothing really surprises me anymore. The number of good people far outweigh the turkeys out there, but of course it's the turkeys that we remember!

You're right though...one way or the other, they will reap what they sow.

blackjack21,

I think our buyers must be related. Scary to think these type of people breed.

koto1,

My young daughter asked me once why we have to have "bad" days. I told her it was so we could learn to appreciate the good ones. I guess buyers are like this as well.

BTW, a one word response is better than a two word response

LOL! Oh, so true!

misscandle,

Loved all your suggestions. The feedback possibilities are endless. For now, I'm enjoying just penning them in what's left of my mind.

Libra63,

Sometimes it does seem the ones we go out of our way for the most, appreciate it the least (having children helps getting used to this feeling).

Yep, this guy was a gold plated winner. I recently had another buyer who overpaid (she double included insurance) & I promptly refunded along w/an explanatory EM.

She wrote me back to say this had happened to her on several occasions (she is a fairly active buyer) but I was the only seller who had refunded and thanked me. Of the two, I think THAT'S the one I'll choose to remember.

Eventer I am very sorry that your customer has done this to you.

I do not understand how someone can sleep at night, knowing they have cheated someone.
I know this does not help get your money back but keep in mind... "He is most cheated who cheats himself."
I do hope this customer will have a change of heart.

You are to be commended for your Honesty & Integrity!
Best Wishes to you!

From a long time Ebay seller -- my recommendation in the future is ... Wait until they email you!

I have had a few people thank me , most never respond, and I even had some that complained when I refunded excess postage.

So now.. I wait for an email from the buyer. If they email -- I thank them for bring it to my attention and will forward any balance due to to the buyer.

I has worked well for me and 9 out of 10 times you will never hear anything and consider it a little extra profit.

Hi Eventer... I'm sorry for your delimna... that stinks.
You are correct! It does go around. That person will get soaked someplace else...then they'll probably cry big tears.
I'm a big believer in people that dish it out can't take it...
Hang in there...

Eventer..I feel your pain!

Before I can give you a solution to your problem I need to know 2 things.

Does this person also sell?
Did he pay by Billpoint or PayPal and if by PayPal was it from a premium/business account?

packer,

Buyer only (drat!). Paid by BillPoint.

Thanks all. I'm not losing any sleep over this one, didn't even bang my head on the table for too long. It was my mistake to rush and not check my math. Comes under the slow down & smell the refund classification.

Just adds another chapter in my "ebay, believe it or not" bidder stories. Hey, misscandle..think we ought to compile these & write a book!

I'm feeling particularly vindictive today. The word chargeback is in my mind, but I guess sellers can't do that. Too bad, isn't billpoint the one that charges a $10 chargeback fee? Feedback could be alot of fun. But, I would wait a short time, just incase he's having an evil day, and wakes up in hte morning feeling nicer.

I would check into a chargeback. Even though you are a seller, you did send money. You should have chargeback rights, too.

But then, I am not a Billpoint customer so I don't know their rules.

I am sorry this happened to you

BECKY
