I too was tied of few or no bids, so I came up with software that prevents anybody from bidding at any time on my auctions.

Now when there are no bids, I know why. Do you think sellers will buy it ?

I mean why would anyone buy software that prevents last minute snipping that will raise the price of your item, when you can buy my software that will stop all bidding on an item ?

I am planning on developing software that will also prevent the listing of auctions. I figure if you don't list the item there will be no way to get few or no bids, and will also prevent snipping.

By all means, market your program to sellers who don't like snipe bids --

-- leaving all the more bidders for those of us who *DO*!

Edited to add:

eastwest: The online auction market has matured and bidders have become more sophisticated. Most now realize that placing a late or snipe bid makes more sense than running up the price all week.

Rather than capturing those "good old days," your program will likely just tick-off any of your remaining bidders.

Gee - this is one of your better ideas Eastwest! I can hardly wait to sign up to be your first buyer. Can't wait to fix all them thar rotten last minute bidders!!! Once I get a copy of your program I'll really be able to teach them a thing or two about last minute bidding on MY listings, that's for sure!

"The online auction market has matured and bidders have become more sophisticated. Most now realize that placing a late or snipe bid makes more sense than running up the price all week. "

Exactly...what buyers are discovering is that, in most cases, you can pay less by sniping. Its a great bidders technique.

Homework: if you agree with the above, whch most people seem to, what is wrong with the following statement, made in a post above?:

"As a seller, I could care less about when the bids come in"

PS - anti-sniping software is certainly swiming against the tide. Buyers have discovered sniping, and will strongly prefer it, now that they realize they save money using it. One..or even a group..of sellers who try to unilaterally eliminate sniping will just drive buyers to the other sellers. It would take a comprehensive rule change by ebay to try and change buyer behavior in this case.

Dang...just when you think you can't read anything weirder or dumber on AW...and I read all those C2it and Exchangepath posts...something comes along to surprise you and renew your faith in a higher being.

Sheesh.

I'm a little confused here...

As a seller, I would be able to prevent last minute bids and sell the item for a lower price? Maybe, if I'm lucky, I can even lose a small amount of money on every item I sell and make it up on volume...

Maybe I'll just change my selling ID to Amazon...

why not just state in your TOS "all bids placed within 24 hours of auction close time will be canceled" ?

spock here......

spock: That reminds me of an auction that I came across months ago that had a statement from the seller advising he would NOT accept any 'snipe' bids and would cancel any bids that came in at (a specified period of time) the last minutes of the auction. HELLLLOOOOO! Got the hell outta there. If he didn't want my money, fine. I'd spend it elsewhere and I DID!

Personally I feel it has less to do with "paying less", and more to do with not keeping funds tied up in auctions that still have several days to go.

The category pages that were at one time 4 pages long, are now anywhere from 14 pages, to 50+ pages long. I also buy from time to time & I never waste my time tieing up my limited buying funds. I wait until near the end, and if the item is still within my buying range I place a bid.

I also believe that the loooooong category pages have forced buyers to only "watch" [another thread altogether] the GGG listings.
There's just way too much territory to cover these days.

Of course the BIN feature has helped keep buyers on both ends of the listings, it's the listings mid way that now get lost in the shuffle.

As someone who has been selling on eBay for a few years now, I can honestly say that the majority of my items receive bids all week long.

I suppose like most things it depends what you sell?

This is how the program works

In the guts of the program you add all the snipe site in. When bids come from this sites, they are rejected. You can set it up to also reject certain emails. Also if you would like to buy some land in Alaska, it looks like ice. I HAVE SOME FOR SALE

GOT YOU ALL

Every once in a while I need to have my medication adjusted too. I can always tell when that happens because I start to see the logic in statements such as "I got tied of no bids so I developed a software program to prevent them - well, the last minute ones anyway!"

Well I'm not kidding about my software !

You can get rid of aggravating snipes, and with my new AUCTION DE-LISTER SOFTWARE (r), you can save $10, $400, or $thousands a month in listing fees !!

What made me chuckle about this thread is how passionately some will protest that which is so patently ludicrous.

I am of the opinion that humans are evidence that God has a sense of humor.

Despite the silliness of this thread, I think it would be appropriate to let the seller use whatever auction style seems best suited to his item. We have only limited control over the process with BIN, reserve, and length.

You cannt do that, I live off snipers,
Bid is bid, I dont care
If it's 1 ces before auction ends or 1 day after it began
I love snipping myself, come on,
You would take away all the fun!

Eastwest

I must admit you had me thinking for awhile there, trying to figure out if there was a way to make it viable.

Sure, I have not been selling on eBay all that long, but I can remember when the bids would come in early .... and the bidding wars went on all week long.

And then along came "watch this item". DARN! That is the feature eBay has that I dislike the most. Actually, it should be called "click the auction number here so you can forget about bidding on it until it is too late"

To me, that is what drove prices down, not the snipers. Personally, if I want something bad enough I bid my max the first time. Then, if I win it, great. If not, another one will be along in a week or so.

Have a great week, all!

BECKY

" created the sniping program because over the last 2 years i have watched sales slide. not over all sales but bids slide. i use to see and get bids threw out the 10 days i listed ...Now it seems most are sniping at the last minute. This prevents the auction from hitting the high prices that once existed...."

Not on the items I normally bid on. Snipers notwithstanding, they're still going for the same old over-inflated prices as always. <G>

"In a snip there becomes a time when bids just do not get in. If you prevent the snip, over time people will start to maually bid. I have over 150 auction going , and this program is running, and has been running for 4 weeks . Guess what about 80% of my auction have bids and they still have days to go. Now i am back to the old days"

I predict that if you stop sniping, the average closing price on most auctions will drop by 25%.
