Shipping will be a nightmare since nothing is going out on a plane.
A friend of mine is a FedEx pilot--she's been put on standby for tonight (she flies almost exclusively at night), but told to be prepared to fly tomorrow, daytime, as soon as the commercial flight ban is lifted.
As horrific as today's events may be, life goes on--and letting faceless cowards shut the country down only serves their purpose.

Thanks for posting the flags...I really hope you don't mind if I use them in my auctions from now on....just one question though is there a certain html that I need to use to get them to show up? I've never used Gif before.

How many other tragedies would you place in this scale? America has been attacked.

I usually launch only a batch a week, so this doesn't seem to impact anything I've got much. The rest is on Half and I'll treat that as always.
I lived in NYC for fourteen years, mostly in lower Manhattan, so even though I am now far away, it feels like it's happening in my back yard. Very chilling.

I definitely have not done any work. It's very hard to concentrate after hearing about the horrors of the day.

I lived through the blitz in London during WWII. Yup, I'm old! My best advice - keep on keeping on! The fanatical terrorist attackers (it is difficult to come up with the right adjectives that can describe them) want to disrupt everything in the U.S. Let them disrupt as little as possible.

Guess my user name should be SympathyfromUK. My nephew works in NY for Reuters, he is in UK at present, and wife and kids are safe.

I had auctions close last night but spent today in a state of shock. I couldn't bring myself to send out cheery winning bid notices
given that many of the bidders will be from the US. I will have to pull myself together and start contacting people tomorrow.

Pocono, just about thousands of US lives were lost today. We of the US with any type of empathy are in mourning.
Will this impact our sales? Yes, of course. A day without listing is a day without money.
But sometimes, horrific news events and tragedy are much more than commerce.
Maybe that is why I will always be a small time seller. I don't run people over at sales, I don't bang on doors early.
And a huge biggie, when national tragedy strikes, I stop and grieve.

The first email I read this morning was a relpy sent yesterday from a winner saying they would use Paypal and that USPS shipping was fine. They are from NY, NY. Haven't heard from Paypal. I have to send 3 things to winners in New York this week. It just makes me so sad, I don't even know what to say to them. I had an email all written out to my NY,NY customer, giving my support, and letting them know that I hope they are o.k., Nothing sounded right so I just deleted it, and will wait to hear from them...After something like this, it just can't be "business as usual" for me...
As a buyer I will say I actually bid on a few things tonight. When I get upset I shop and spend money. Not a healthy reaction, but... it actually makes me feel a little better to know that eBay is still here, it makes it feel somewhat still "normal"...

I had sent several end of auction notices on Sunday after my afternoon auctions had closed. I was glad I didn't have to send any today. However, I did get one pleasant e-mail response acknowledging receipt of the notice from Sunday. From a repeat customer, it was simple and then signed God Bless America!

For my part, I just got done adding an american Flag with a message - "Proud to be American" to all of my auctions that are still running.
I will add this image to all my auctions indefinately? If anyone wants that image email me and I'll send it to you.
I think it would be fantastic if everyone on ebay put a similar message on their auctions. That would send a clear message to the the cold blooded terrorists about the resolve of the american people!

I think a day of mourning, and praying for
the victims and their families, is the
right thing to do.
If you shut down business for a long period, the cowards that did this, will gain
pleasure from it.
As hard as it seems today, keep going.
Our condolences; Canada

"How many other tragedies would you place in this scale? America has been attacked."
First of all, when you mention scale, that is in real poor taste and total disrespect for those individuals who died in a tragedy but not in a large scale. Second, I was referring to a national scale. So, not just one murder committed during a bank robbery, but all murders combined worldwide that occur annually surpasses this tragedy in Ny, and Washington.
When you drive home from the PO and see a tragic accident, do you go home and freeze in shock and not make any more listings?
Sorry for being so controversal but no better time to bring it up than when people are discussing it.

I don't think it's a case of X number of deaths is more important than 1 or 10 or whatever. It's more a sense of a huge national crisis that is pretty much unprecidented since we've been through multiple wars and police actions over the years without this sort of attack on US soil. Also, in my area, schools and businesses have shut down due to disruption for commuters, no phones, whatever.
I did re-list a few last night and bid on one thing...like lornday I sort of turn to what is familiar for a little comfort. But when I contemplate gearing up for the routine business today, I just feel tired and pointless.

I haven't felt much like auctioning in the last 24 hours. But do you know what's strange? On 9/11/01 I had an all time high in $ sales.
I wonder if a lot of people left work or were simply online while at work and bidding to get their minds off the trajedy.

Get involved in helping by giving blood, or other blood products. Call your local volunteer agencies to see if they need any help. Everyone can contribute in some way and this will help ease your heartache and sorrow.

It's okay to curtail your normal business activities, for a while, to grieve. This is normal. BUT, let's all plan to go back at it next week, full force. Nobody can deny that the attack yesterday was the most horrible single event ever to occur in our country. Letting them push us into a sustained downward economic spiral would be just adding to the tragedy.
If anyone wants to do something for the people who were the victims of this attack, may I suggest making a contribution to the Red Cross. When my family’s home was destroyed in an accidental fire fifteen years ago, I cannot express how helpful the Red Cross was to us at that time of great need. Since then, my family has continuously donated funds, time, and blood to the Red Cross. Don’t assume that the only way to help the Red Cross is through blood donations. For my family, the Red Cross found us a place to stay for the few nights before our insurance company came through for us. They also gave us certificates for clothing at a local store (all we had left was the clothes we were wearing, and I grabbed our family photo albums). They also fed us a couple of meals. The Red Cross will have many people in New York that have similar needs.

The goal of some madmen is to destroy America. If we allow them to change our way of life and give in to these cowardly and heinous acts of terrorism, then they've won. I've thought long and hard and am running my listings scheduled to launch tomorrow. I don't know if they'll get many bids and, frankly, that's almost beside the point. I won't let terrorists run my life.

Have any of you stopped to consider how this will impact your business as a whole? As I was preparing to list some auctions this morning for small collectibles, it suddenly occurred to me that--if this kind of terrorism continues, or if the US goes to a full-fledged war--who is going to be interested in buying trinkets off e-bay? The shock and feelings we have over yesterday's attack will be repeated over and over--and if so, who in their right mind is going to care if they add another glass figurine to their china collection? I think there's a possibility that we e-bayers could be out of business in a hurry.

I will not post anymore for a while,
But I do have auctions up,
No one really planned on this...
But I'm getting no emails
Or payments from the last week ones,
And I dont expect any either,
I think everyone is just numb and
Trying to cope with what happened
And what is happening.

My family and I are shocked and saddened by the terrible attacks in the US yesterday, and we have been praying for all those involved. We now live in Canada, but lived in 3 U.S. states for several years. I had decided not to list anything more this week, then I heard the mayor of New York talking this morning, and telling people to go about their normal business, go shopping, for walks etc. I decided that I needed to carry on listing, I am sure some people need to have some diversion. I feel too much in shock today, but tomorrow I hope to carry on as usual. Our deepest condolances to our brothers and sister in the United States, we are with you.
