"Of couse everyone who sells second hand has no idea where there things came from, or what circumstances are behind it. "
So it's okay to profit on the "misfortune of innocent victims," so long as one remains steadfastly ignorant of the fact?
Sorry, lorndav, it's neither appropriate or possible to dictate a "proper" price to these sellers. The market determines that.
Thank God.

Just curious here, but was the BUY NOW, or RESERVE set at $20 for this pin or did the BIDDERS make the price go up?

Executive Girl-I can't answer that because it could indentify the auciton.
Fountainhouse-Once again, the point is LOST. Think what you want-to business how you want-make money off the sorrow of others, whatever you want. Most people do not go out the moment, or the next day, after 5,000 people have lost there lives, after the country goes to war, and buy things to profit from. There IS a difference between that, and buying from an estate sale of a 90 year old person. Sorry if you fail to see it...
Sorry for getting personal Moderaters.

EG, went to look and geez, there's some real gouging going on here...
3'x5' flags are going for $13.95 (many listings from an obvious established flag seller, most listings sold with 1 bid)
"We will win" T-shirts are $9.99 (1 bid)
9"x6" flag on pole - $5 (1 bid)
Most listings are ending with 1 bid. I didn't open the individual listings, but it would seem most of these are BIN.
It would seem the premise of this thread was based on misinformation.

Go look at PINS, that is what I was talking about.

I am not sure what American Flags YOU were looking at but the ones ending in a few mins. are over $40 3x5. Some larger are over $100.
Guess we ALL are "misinformed".

I'm sorry lorndav is the only one that understands what is trying to be said.
The profit from garage sale items even if you make 5000% is different than the profit made from the sale of an American Flag during War.
If these flags were going for $140 before we were bombed then there is not a problem, except the bidders may have needed some help.
I feel the same about Dale E items and Diana items and WTC, etc.
I do not deal in these items nor garage sale items. Mine are all new items. Before fountainhouse jumps in, no, they are not made by children in china.
Well I have to run, I seen on the news some poor person did not get their kidney in time cause the plane was grounded. I have a good used one I am asking his family 2 million dollars for.

Check completed auctions (sorted by "newly-listed" ).
I've not found a single instance of the price "gouging" reported here.
It's a moot point, anyway. There is no "correct" price for flags, apple pie OR the American dream.

As I said, I SAID PINS! And There is price gouging. As for the Flags, look at the ones about to end. Look under USA, American, U S A, U.S.A, maybe some people aren't getting rich, because they don't know how to list. Thank God! And I was NEVER talking about Flags, or shirts or anything but PINS!

And you are right, there is no price for a flag, apple pie, or the American dream. Just as there is no price for pain, human suffering, or the loss of human lives...
But I will sure bet the latter are worth more than $13.95...

I was talking about flags. Remember do not look at the price your search results shou you, look at the auctions. It may show you $40.00 ther but the auction probably says $90.00+

I just prefer to reach my American Dream with a few more morals than others are showing.
Good night everyone.

What I find dispiriting is that a lot of people had to buy a flag. I didn't. There was one in my hall closet. The one I fly every 4th, Flag Day, Memorial and Veteran's Days, and every other national disaster.
ps I'm not speaking of the small flags for the antenna and the office. I had to hustle around for those like all of us.
btw, my neighbor has one up that takes up the entire wall of his 2 story house. And in the back yard is an equally impressive one atop a 100 foot tall flag pole. Another neighbor has six ful size flags up. As you can tell, we are a very patriotic neighborhood.

What if the seller made a million dollars selling the flags at inflated prices, then he started a large corporation employing thousands; he bought computers for the local school; he took a year off to aid poor people in Africa; spent all the money at the mall aiding considerably to the economy?
Huh, why, I really want to know why you have to make people sink to your miserable level?

The woman of our house spent close to an hour standing in line to buy a small flag for me on Saturday as I'm still a bit wobbly after some leg surgery. I don't remember how much it was--I handed her a $20 and she gave me back about half.
The American flag represents the blood of many patriots who paid the ultimate price. How much is that worth?

I must admit i am ashamed to say this but we bought our own house 2 years and have never purchased a flag for it.We have the pole on the house to put it on but it just kept slipping my mind
You can't find a flag anywhere around here where we live and yes i bought one off of ebay.I paid around $60 for it but it was worth it to me. I am not defending anyone but the other bidders and myself determined what we were going to pay for it.I think it started at $6 i would have to go look at the auction again to make sure but i would have paid about any price to get one since they are so scarce.

Let the market decide if the patriotic items are in bad taste or price gouging.
The stock exchange will open this morning and the same thing will happen. The MARKET will decide the value of airline and insurance stocks. What about the stocks that will rise ? Should we say that this is price gouging and unpatriotic that some people are speculating that security companies and defence stocks will go up ?
Free markets are what this country is about. Let them sell $2 flags for $140 if that's what the market dictates.
A lot of speculation going on in gold and the price is rising. Is that unpatriotic ?

I had some new flags plus some of the flag pins left over from when I had a retail store. I am GIVING these away to my friends who don't have a flag and/or would like a pin to wear on their lapel or hat. I decided against selling them (even if I donated the money to charity) because I wanted to share them with friends. One of them is even getting mailed clear across the country to a fellow eBayer who can't find one in her area. I was amazed at the price these little pins were bringing on Ebay as we sold them in our store for $5.00 and was making $4.00 on them!

Climbing out of numbness last night, I checked the wide "rhinestones pin" category because I have a lot of early 1900 pins to sell for a relative soon.
I was surprised to see all the flag pins and the prices they were getting. Nice
to know my grandmother's 2.00 pin is going for big money I guess. It reminded me that I should get it out and wear it now although I dislike jewelry generally.
Story:
I found out my daughter and her (new)
fiance had been looking for a flag to display on her new apartment's balcony for 2 nights last week. I have had her brownie & girl scout troop's flag stored since I finished 10 years of being her scout leader in 1993. I hadn't felt I should use it because all 18 girls had contributed to buying it. It is now out of storage!

Paintpower-Now what you are doing is what I call AMERICAN and Patriotic!
Redmond-The "speculation" of gold has NOTHING to do with anytyhing. NO, it's not unpatriotic. Gold is speculated to go up, because people are scared, and want a secure place to keep the money they have. That HAS NOTHING to do with people making money from the deaths of 1,000's by selling FLAG PINS, which is what I was talking about.
Quickdraw-I am not sure whose "miserable" level you are referring to, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. That is what the Flag represents,FREEDOM. If you don't like it , hit the back button. AND, what if Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy really ARE for real?

lorndav, I did not deny anyone their opnion nor attempt to deny, I simply disagreed with it. It's ironic that you started this thread expressing your complaint about others profiting from their freedom. Ok in your words, the flag represents freedom, what's the basis for your complaint then?

My brother lives in Baltimore. He said he couldn't even find a flag to buy. He asked if we had tee shirts with a flag on them.
Perhaps these people are ones who need to have a flag and cannot find one ... no matter what the cost.

So if one had a case of these pins hanging around you would refrain from putting them on E-Bay because they might bring to much. And if you were a Seller who sells T-Shirts you wouldn't offer T-Shirts with a flag on it because it might sell for more than it normally would,so what do you do when you get a ton of people asking you to buy the item and sell it them, tell them no?Sorry but I think this thread is pointless.I sold more T-Shirts at the Flea market this past weekend than I had in 10 years, and now have a ton of orders for more.I don't feel bad about it because It will help the economy, people will be able to keep their jobs and maybe we will all get through this without losing what we have left.Let whoever can sell something do it.
